Well, I mention 2010 - not because I think there is an amazing savior waiting to be ours with FA money - I simply mention the year because I think that's a realistic point in time we could be out from under all the players that plague this franchise today.

That's all. I view it as the moment of clean slate. The moment we could be done "tearing it down" and begin "building it back up.

That's all. I don't use the date to correlate with any particular potential 2010 free agent.

we need to start building it back up now, while we tear down the bad. we have the draft, which is huge, and we have nate and lee, who i think we should use in packages to get rid of bad contracts or to trade for more picks in 2008 and 2009.

Oh, absolutely, while we are getting rid of these bad veteran players you try your best to develop the kids we have in the background.

It would be tricky though - because the vets are going to be problematic no matter what - but you don't just stop doing everything you can to improve - you hope for the best, hope you can keep the development of the kids somewhat seperate from the whining disinterested bad-influence veterans who know they're all out the door and just awaiting trade.

I still say it can be done and I maintain it's the best shot we have to some day soon have a very good team and fun team to watch.

The continued thought that we have a good core (we dont) and it really just needs 1 or 2 more of the "right" players (it doesnt, it needs 7 or 8 and I dont mean replacing Collins, Balkman, etc, I mean replacing Curry, Zach, Q, Crawful, Marbury, etc) and just needs the "right" coach (it doesnt, it needs a whole new roster, just ask five coaches and several FO executives), and then GOGOGOGOGOBAM 08-09 finals here we come!!!! is downright ludicrous at best at this point in time. Which is pretty much the heart of my debate. I've got 4.75 years of evidence to back up my assertion that this core is rotten to the pit and there's no adding players or a new coach to it with expectations of grand success. Not sure what those who disagree with me have as evidence to the contrary...you know, that JOneal, AK47, and Rick Carlisle = 50 wins+finals in 09.

....and with that, I've said everything I think I could possibly say on this topic which I guess I hijacked from the "josh howard, our saviour or raging burnout" debate (which i apologize for).... so I'll just leave this thread with a big fat line face and a big fat fart. The line face is for those that might still reply "But, Cos, Zach and Crawful are amazing talents and JONeal will make them superstars and Carlisle would have turned this team into a superpower overnight!" to it.... and the fart is for the general direction our franchise has taken the past 4.75 seasons of "our team rules, just one more trade! just the right coach! and GOGOGOGOGOGOGOBAM! We'll win 90% of our games!!!!"

ugh.

Nobody "Checked Me" on Crawford. It's not as simple as that with him because he is indeed a very destructive player. In fact maybe FishMike was alluding to if Crawford could do what I listed he would have to do in order to become an important player that he'd be worth keeping? Maybe we should let Mike tell us instead of you or I....
HAHA, you spelled his name right.........

His stock can't get any lower at this point with the weed admission coupled with his poor performance in the playoffs. Howard was a guy who at one time was condsidered a legit offer in a package for Kobe.

Not sure if we have enough to get him even with his damaged stock. But I just wanted to take the pulse of the board. As long as we can keep Lee, Chandler and our draft picks, I might be willing to take a shot at him.

Comments?
