Terrell Thomas in the 2nd round... hmm, dunno about this pick... he's not exactly known for his man on man pass coverage ability downfield from what i've been reading... sounds like more of a nickleback/reserve S option

looks like we're keeping Shockey

good... he's out best run blocker at that position & he's still an All Pro calibre TE... wish he would get on the same page w/Eli & not be such a prick when he doesn't get the ball, but w/Shockey u just gotta deal w/his temper... he's gonna make plays for you bottomline.

Agreed.
I'll never trust this' team again.

Terrell Thomas is a nice player. Here's another big corner. The Giants like physical press play from their corners (allows them to buy time for the rush). This is where Webster was so effective in the playoffs. Ross is another good sized corner. Thomas is another player who is very physical. Was underrated b/c he's had some knee injuries, but he is a big school player who has matched up with some big time WR. One of the better corners still left on the board- certainly the best big school corner still left on the board, when we picked. Plus he had 4 picks next year, so another guy who has some hands and smarts.

I'm very impressed with Reese so far, has shown that he is a very good drafter. I'm in agreement with everyone so far, I think the 2 picks he made today were very good, especially Phillips, I think he'll be excellent. I also like the pick of Thomas, as VDes said, he was the best corner left from a big school and anytime you get someone from USC, you know you're getting a player.

I'm very surprised that Dan Conner has yet to be drafted, anytime you got a LB coming from Penn State, you gotta figure you got a pretty good player and from what I saw of Connor, he was a very effective player - all over the field. I guess he's a victim of the dreaded combine, I think those #'s are way to overrated.

All in all, I think a good day for both NY teams in the draft, but more importantly for me, a good day for the Giants.

Connor is an ok player- he's a good value now, but I don't think he was a good enough athlete to be a first rounder. He's a tier below Paul Poz from last year. In rd.3 now he is a good value cause he's a productive, experienced guy and does have some playmaking ability. There are few LB's I like that we should target, in some sort of order: Connor, Phil Wheeler, Ben Moffit, Gary Guyton, Taveras Gooden, Xavier Adibi, Ezra Butler, Cliff Avril. Erin Henderson, Geno Hayes...

Obviously, he was the guy I wanted. What you see is what you get with him, because he doesn't have crazy athleticism which completely cuts off an upside.

His production is awesome. He just flat out gets it done. Guys like that work as LBs. Look at Antonio Pierce. He went undrafted for that reason. I want guys that can tackle at LB and Connor definitely gives that at a high level as well as everything else.

However, apparently Connor was suspended three games for a series of harassing phone calls. I don't know the details, but maybe he's too much of a character risk. If the Giants thought this guy was a nut job, I'm okay with passing him up for a press corner that fits our system. A guy like Comartie will probably be a better player, but he might not be better than Thomas for the Giants. What concerns me though is THomas has went under the knife a few times already... I hope it turns out like Justin Tuck where there are no recurring problems.

Marc Ross and Jerry Reese both mentioned that Giants med staff had checked out Thomas and didn't have any red flags. Check out his video on Giants.com- he gets after the QB on blitzes pretty well and makes some plays on specials too. Also breaks up some passes with very long arms...he's a really interesting prospect.

Most people point to the GIants secondary as their weakness and they did a pretty good job of suring that up today.

There will still be some good LB's to take in rd. 3. They also will probably take a WR in some point as Toomer will be an FA next year.

Stick with what won you the SuperBowl. Go with Defense.

WORD! our offense is set... maybe draft some depth on the O-Line in the later rounds, but i say focus needs to be on the D, especially in the secondary & LBer corps.

Definitely agree.

The defense could use a a good linebacker and corner now.

The offense doesn't really have any holes. It could use more explosive players, however.

we got some guys w/big play making ability in Domenik Hixon & Ahmad Bradshaw... if Sinorice Moss could ever live up to his potential we'll have a third (not holding my breathe on that one tho)... a Leon Johnson/Dave Meggett type guy who can return punts for us would be nice in the later rounds tho.

as far as receivers go, i think we're set w/Plax, Amani, Smith & Tyree... if Shockey gets traded (i hope he doesn't), then we might need to draft a good run blocking backup for Boss at TE.

The offense is strong, don't get me wrong. Statistically there is some room for improvement, specifically in the passing game. I know everything came on strong the end of last season, but I don't put a lot of stock on like five or six games. The Giants don't project to be the best team in the division even and I'd say outside of the secondary, that's the area that could improve the most. And when I say improve, I mean make the offense as dominant as the defense can be... because I'm totally okay with how things currently are (I'm just greedy).

The Giants ran very hot and cold offensively. Its not a stretch to say that they could use another reciever. It will be Toomer's last year. Sinorice Moss is a no entity. Tyree made the play of a life time, but he's a special teamer. Hixon barely played any WR. There is room for another weapon at WR who could theoretically step in and be the no.3 as early as 2009.

Mario Manningham is an amazing third round pick. If not for character issues he would've been the no.1 WR in the draft. Chad Johnson like upside.

Yeah... he's a great guy to get in the third. I mentioned him yesterday as a second round candidate, which iI guess would have b een a bit of a reach. Regardless, I feel like the Giants drafted two second rounders this draft.

It's a good pick I think but he has other issues...He is not a burner and doesn't have great size but he is a player...A big game player, but is not like Chad Johnson...

Manningham didn't run fast at the combine but he ran around 4.4 at his pro-day and definitely plays fast. He can get deep and make big plays. Nolan Nawrocki compare himm to Chad Johnson, and Russ Lande compares him to Isaac Bruce

Manningham's issues are closely related to Josh Howard's...

I like the pick of Manningham because when this previous college football season started, Manningham was probably the #1 WR in the draft. A bad season all around for Michigan and his lying about smoking weed, hurt him no doubt. I still think he has very good hands and he made a number of big plays throughout his career at Michigan, he also plays much bigger than his 5'11 height, he even looks alot bigger.

The one thing I don't agree with you about Manningham Des, is the Chad Johnson upside. Chad is fast - very fast. Manningham comes nowhere close to Chad's speed. Is that a big deal? To me it's not, I want a guy that can run routes and catch the ball, when I see Manningham, I see him comparing to someone like Rod Smith. Great hands, not a burner, but runs great routes, and you can always depend on him. I'll take that.

Chad Johnson was a guy that ran about a 4.5-4.6 when he got drafted...

Anyway, I think both get down the field and make big plays. Both talk a lot. Both presented some risk and slipped in the draft in the same way.

Chad was a huge risk and became a superstar. Manningham is also a big risk and can be a no.1

This is a guy that would've been taken in the top 15 without the character concerns.
