I remember when the Knicks drafted Lee everyone wanted Taft, and Blatche they had the high ceilings. Gomes was another name everyone wanted. If they re did the draft today Lee would be a top 8 pick. This draft is not very good and when someone has a high ceiling usually that means that havent done anything so far. About 5 guys will have a better career than Lee in this draft.

Lee is a great player but limited. If I need a big game to come from the 4 spot can I count on David Lee to get me 25 points--that is what a great player can do--he can get me 20 points but that would mean that there are a lot of misses and putbacks. I mean direct general scoring and defense--can he go out and get me 25 against tier 1 PF with his own offensive arsenal and then going down on the other end--can he stop the other guy. My take is no. While a great team player a warrior an effecient player he's also limited. He was the same way in college--very good team player but a limited one---limited to what Kenny Smith said--the shallow water. Is david Lee in anyway comparable to Mike Beasley--cant hold his jockstrap and Ill leave it there--- Does he have skills from the 4 like an Anthony Randolph? Can he take it off the backboard and bring it up as fast as a guard and finish--does he have length to disrupt or the inside outside abilities to score 25 points withoput depending on other people missing shots? Is he agile skilled and powerful like Blake Griffin? NO he was not as good as Blake was as a freshmen when he was a senior There are atleast 3-4 PF in this draft alone who are going to be better than Lee. Lee is a great 3rd big OR a solid second starter IF the first guy is in the Tim Duncan KG catergory--is D Lee holding his own against guys like David West Boozer KG Rasheed Wallace Chris Bosh Dwight Howard Tim Duncan Antwan Jamison Al Jefferson Dirk Nowitski Pau Gasol Carlos Boozer Amare Stoudemire--do I need to go on? David Lee is not a top tier NBA PF--just because he gets a 10-10 doesnt put him in that class. He's really a solid third big player. So my bet is--and the odds say that Im probably right that 2-3 top tier PFs will come out of this draft who trump LEE---now does the club consider position 4 important--because it is an important NBA position. Sorry but that is the truth.

Briggs, pretty much the guys on your list are franchise players with exceptional abilities, some of them centers. I've seen Lee try to defend against some of them and i've really seen him try, now just because he wasn't that good at it doesn't mean he can't improve his d to make his game more complete. As far as his scoring goes i think he would really benefit from being on the team that had a plan and ran plays istead of him having to rely on picking up and finishing all the bricked shots that our team is so good at providing

If I had to resign Lee, I would give him no more than 35 mil over 5 years. He's a big man that plays ZERO defense! What team is going to give Lee more than 7 mil a season? I just can't see it because I think the majority of NBA teams nowadays are reluctant to give big long term deals to flawed players.

I wouldn't give players 5yr contracts anymore unless they are on Paul, Kobe, Lebron, Howard level. For everyone else 4 yrs would be the max yrs I would giving out. Id give Lee a contract starting at 7mil which increases to 8.5mil in the final yr. With incentives to earn up to 10.5 if certain #s are met.

I agree about contract length as I am a HUGE proponent of more money for less years. In this case, I'm not resigning Lee at all because we need to clear the cap space and, I'm certainly not giving him 10.5 mil in year 4.
