I think right now the east has a lot of rebuilding going on, including the knicks( eventhough they won't admit it now). If these guys pan out and I mean, Lebron, Bosh, Sweetney, Lampe, and Mcgrady gets a sidekick, the east can and will be back... And not to forget, Detroit, if Milic is the real deal, he could bring them to that next level, and with Brown as coach... wow

ARES cool your jets man.... first of all, the cavs teams that lot to the bulls IMO were better than the knicks, pacers, etc.. but that is my opinion..

Next Stop being a bandwagon lakers fan ICE!!! Malone and payton are still good players but as we know outside of talent, it is chemistry that wins the championships. Do you think if Malone is not getting his touches that he will be content becomming a spot up shooter or diving for loose balls or the defensive stopper? or is Payton content with being the 3rd wheel? come on dukes, we know the lakers art trying to stack a team but when I mentioned guys like sweetney, bosh, and I see you didn't mention Lebron(typical Ice), I am talking about the future, when malone is gone, when Payton is gone, when shaq is making corny B movies!!! I am sure you can understand that... And don't leave out that I also mentioned the Nets and the Magic with Mcgrady, in a few years the tide could easliy turn, and you know it!!!!

Ice you make a good point about those guys meshing together being the difference, ya figure if i made 40,000 at work and somebody hires me to play for 20,000 I have to be really focused on completion of the project(nba title) because that is a lot of jack i'm giving up for the same type of job.

Ice, you are missing the point, the East in 2-4 year will be much better, maybe not this year, and maybe not next!! Believe me I like watching west coast teams, remember I follow the clippers..LOL..

Anyway, I am talking chemistry as far as play, not personalities... The lakers won with Kobe and shaq doing the scoring, then you had guys like Fisher and Horry,hitting big 3's and Fox guarding the other teams best player and diving for lose balls. The key is will malone and Payton fill those roles the same way. We know they are both good players, but what they do, their style of play, is that going to put the lakers back where they were? I don't know man!!!

Yes, The Knicks did in fact lose to Houston in 94....Houston deserved the win. We shot horribly in g7, and could have closed out in g6, but you know all this.

Just saying, that since this is a Knick fan outpost, of course our bias will sway that way. Any team fan will do the same. And it's little things that make or break a playoff run. I never said that the western teams of the late 80's-90's sucked, I just said that the eastern teams were formidable foes then...much more than they are now...and that's by the admission of some of the western all-stars as well...Nobody liked playing against the Knick Defense during that era. I think it's quite logical to assume that in the absence of MJ, the Knicks would have had a great chance to win 2 titles between 91-97 (94 excluded, of course)

I'm not getting into west-bashing. As an L.A. resident, I could, but I won't. The rest of the true blue-ers will note that I still wear my NYK gear, while driving up La Cienega. We can speculate all day, but the pendulum will swing again. I just hope that when it does, LeBron won't play the part of the Jordan Spoiler again.
