As long as virtually all governments in the world regardless of ideology continue to base their economic policy on Keynes, you will have the same dynamics of bust and boom.

The current crisis happened because nobody had the incentives to care about long term returns. The CEO who gets a huge severance package did not care about long term.
The trades who get their bonuses in full had no incentive to care about the long term outlook of the companies they are affiliated with.
The mortgage brokers had no incentive to care about whether the loans are ever paid off.

But most importantly, we have become a culture that does not care about the long term consequences of our actions in general. At the end of the day, it was individuals who went out to buy huge homes they could not possibly afford, maxed out multiple credit cards, and did not save a penny towards their retirement.

We have become a culture in which the sense of personal responsibility has been greatly eroded. We expect the government to save for us with social security, the government to bail us out of our debt when we spend well beyond our means, and the government to take of our health. Those who trade freedom for security deserve neither.

As long as we base our economic policy on the ideas of a man who said that in the long run we are all dead, we will have the usual.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

" Wright is a close friend of Farrakhan" -Nolad

Ya know. I know the Rev verrrry well. My dad does music at Trinity ever so often. I WISH people would styop putting this ridiculous lie out there. Rev Wright is NOT "close friends" with Farrakhan. U guys fall for stuff like that hook line and sinker. Rev Jeremiah Wright literally travels to Africa once a month. He along with MANY of pastors and activists are invited there often. Jeremiah Wright has little to no contact with Farakhan. They agree on certain things that deal with present day oppression but Farrakhan has attack Rev Wright's position on many things.....on a constant. I wish people would stop calling these two men "friends". It's ridiculous.

And for the record when Jeremiah Wright is talking about something such as slavery what he is talking about is the parallels between biblical oppression (the Israelites were under oppression for much of the scriptures.....not to mention Jesus was a part of an oppressed people who faced oppression via the Roman Empire and the puppet they put in place to run things...Herod). So when he has spoken of things such as slavery it is only a backdrop to a point. How do you talk about Moses without talking about slavery and oppression? How do you talk about Jesus' story without talking about the oppression he and his people experienced. In fact the crucifiction was carried out by political people. King Herod took issue with the fact that Jesus was being called "King of the Jews" by the people. Sounded like take-over. Ultimately Jesus was turned over to Roman officials and their government. The black experience is closely parallel to that of these stories......from slavery into an oppressive society with very little political power. Now I am not saying I agree with EVERYTHING that Jeremiah Wright has ever said but I don't agree with everything ANYONE says. But people need to clarify, if they're going to report, WHY he may have been speaking about slavery, or present day oppression or politics. Obama made it clear that he disagrees with Rev Wright's politics. And guess what....Rev Wright is not a politician. Neither was Rev Dr King when HE made the statement "America is the number one purveyor of violence in the world. It has commited violence everywhere she has gone. And he made that statement in '67. And guess what? King was actually called "a threat to national security" in FBI files. I'm sure that Obama would have had to "denounce and reject" King for making such "anti-American" comments. So people need to understand that the black preacher (if he is intelligent) is ALWAYS going to speak about those parallels. Hopefully people realize that everyone from Fredrick Douglas to Sojourner Truth to Harriet Tubman to Adam Clayton Powell to MLK were all black preachers that came in the tradition of Jeremiah Wright. Where the country be without that element? It may make some people uncomfortable but that is the reality for the struggle when sooooo many people are voiceless and powerless. In fact name one activist thru the course of history from way back until today that could not be accussed of saying "politically incorrct" things and "anti-American" things.

W.E.B. Dubois talked about the double consciousness of the black community. Someone will be celebrating the 4th of July while other's mourn it. He said it best when he said: "One ever feels his two-ness,-an American, and (being black); two souls, two thoughts, two unreconciled strivings; two warring ideals in one body, whose dogged strength alone keeps it from being torn asunder."

Excuse all typos. I can't go back and double check, no time

Obama is a man that is showing incredible poise against all of the expected negative strategies. Is he a "savior?" Perfect? No, and none of us should be so naive to think that, but I believe the manner in which he handles such situations seems to demonstrate more reason why he is qualified to be president. He uses grace, intelligence, wit, charisma, and what seems to be an honest approach to touchy subject matter with balance that is much lacking from most of our current leadership. He seems to listen rather than tell, yet remain tough, which is another needed attribute missing.

I bet you cry everytime you here his incredible voice. You probably dream sweet nothings with his vision present in your every breath, in your every dream. I bet you practice grace, intelligence, wit and what's that other one?.............oh yeah, charisma. Aaaaaaaahhhhhhh......obamaaaaaa..........

Just rolls off the tongue, doesn't it?

I don't give to craps about the war anymore. But I do care about what's going on with this economy and universal health care. People have already lost their homes, so there's not much anyone can do about that anymore. I want someone who already has a lot of experience in politics and not someone who is virtually an unknown.

Wow just wow what do you care about other then seeing Hilary Clinton elected? This kinda of thought process is why Bush got elected to two terms.

You criticize me for my political views? How dare you! And to compare me to Bush voters is pretty stupid also. You wanna vote for Obama, go ahead! I'm not going to tell you what to do.

I don't have to defend anyone. Let expeirence speak for itself!!!

Look you sound very ignorant when you say that you don't care about any of the major issues that are plaguing this country. Look if you don't care about the issues then to me your on the same neanderthal level as these Bush supporters. I don't care that you want to vote for Hilary my problem is that you don't give a shyt about the issues which is what an election should be about.

You really are stupid. I just said I cared about universal health care and the economy. Those are two issues right there. You'd like' me to sound ignorant so you can rip into me. Nice try.

I don't care about the war, because first of all, 80% of the forces voted for your boy Bush in the last election. So go figure. Plus, I don't know anyone who's over there anyway and anyone I know who goes, well' good luck!

TheloniusMonk, since you know the guy personally, this is a great opportunity to clear some things up then.

The guy says that Jesus was a black man killed by rich white people. How does that fit in with the Jewish parallel? Does he mean Romans not Jews by rich white people? I assumed he refers to Jews as rich white people, since usually, when a Christian preacher talks about the killing of Christ, they are talking about Jews. If he means Romans I'm mostly ok with that statement.
(There are black Jews, lots of them, in my opinion the population of ancient Israel was racially mixed, binded by the Mosaic covenant, not racial homogeneity, just like it is today.)

Also, the church that Wright belongs to as far as I know does not recognize the right of Jews to a state. Is that correct? I'm not trying to start an argument with you about this, I just want to know the church's position from a direct source.

Tell that to the 4,462 who now have lost a daughter, son, wife, husband, brother, and sister. Or to the 1,189,173 Iraqis families who have lost a loved one.

He was referring to Pontios Pilate. And by the way I NEVER EVER EVER EVER hear Rev Wright speak down about Jews. If he has I haven't heard it.

As far as the rights of the state or whatever you were referring to I don't know. That sounds totally false since Rev Wright constantly does things in conjuction with the Jewish community. I am actually not a member of the church. So I can't answer your question. I can ask my dad tho. But that sounds way off. He is into talking about oppression not oppressing other people.

Hey, if you wanna be a cop, go ahead. I don't appreciate being attacked over my own politcal views and then being called ignorant. You go back and look at my first posts. There's nothing attacking about any of it. There my views and I should have a right to them. I didn't throw mud at anyone. it was thrown at me first.

I'm going to tell you negative obama supporters something. If the Democrates (that's all of us) lose this presidential election, no matter who's representing us, it will be because of all of the division that's been created over race and gender. There's nothing fair about this election. All of you know that. So if you want to view your political differences, then that's just fine with me. I have no problem with it. But if anyonne wants to throw mud, then don't expect to be backed up on any of your views.

And why' is this on the Knicks board anyway? There are now 'two' threads here.

guys (and gals) get into tossing around topical issues here, particularly important ones like this. it's a real plus in my view. we all spend so much time here and get so much interaction with one another, why not around things like this that matter to us too?

Here we go.......everytime someone feels their ignorant opinion is valid cuz it came from their head......everytime.....they gotta play the "what's this doing in a Knicks site?" card.

Somebody shuffle the deck please......

Btw......Knicks are irrelevant. I shouldn't have marked this OT, or the other one.
