From what i saw last night Isiah seems to be just riding this thing out. He looked like he was just letting the guys like Morris and Chandler get playing time and nothing else mattered to him. He didn't seem to be interested in coaching Nate. Nate was lost and was making so many mistakes. One in particular is that he kept picking up his dribble at the worst times. He also may have trouble seeing when he's defended by a tall player cuz he has lot's of teammates open but didn't seem to be able to see them. I believe he wants to get better at PG, but he has to be told to play more like Nash. Stay on the move and don't give up your dribble. When you're really small you have to stay back a bit so you can see the floor better. He kept driving to the corners and getting trapped.
You can see that PG is a HUGE problem for this team. If we had a true PG things would look totally different offensively. Isiah has completely thrown out the playbook and all they do is go for iso's or some other selfish one on one stuff. Just cuz our guards have trouble with running the plays is no reason to just give up totally. You keep making them run thru the sets so they can learn.
To me we obviously need a real PG and a Defensive center. Just fixing those 2 positions would make a major improvement in the team. There's talent on the team but no direction or leadership.
It's obscene how little coaching is actually being done. This is why changes needed to be made before the trade deadline. First, to use the trade deadline as a way to start tearing this mess down. Secondly, to get the younger players a chance to play BUT WITH PROPER COACHING.
It's nice that they're finally being played, although with inconsistent minutes, but what's the point in just letting them loose without teaching them how to play at this level? It's so painfully obvious how little teaching is going on, of course how much coaching can take place when the team barely practices and when they do it's during the shortest practices possible.
Isiah is just as bad a head coach as he is a GM. People who think that keeping Isiah on as coach just haven't been paying attention. He's all about the quick fix and quick buck. If it doesn't come easy, Isiah isn't interested. He has the work ethic of a slug.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System
