Good luck man. Every company needs tech gurus though so another job can't be too far away.
Put some more ads on UK to pay the bills.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

That really sucks. Sorry to hear.

If you are searching for a best position there's a lot of websites online for something that you do like monster.com and careerbuilder.com. I mean I'm sure what the situation is but those are just common websites you can search.

Good luck and hope you find something soon.

Thanks for the well-wishes man. I hope the economy doesn't affect anyone else here, but I'm sure it will

TMS/Des.. I've never used indeed before, I'll have to check that out. I used to Monster/Yahoo/Star Ledger to find my previous job, I'll check out Indeed, thanks for the heads up.

Hey nyk - I'm in the same position as you! I was layed off from my job today as well (I was a analyst at Lehman Brothers). This economy really sucks. I actually worked in the mortgage industry and know that it's really affecting the entire economy. It's not the reason this country is in such a mess but it cert. hasn't helped. I actually have a background in IT i'm looking for a job as a Business Analyst. If I hear of any Admin jobs I'll let you know.

Boy I really probably could hook you up where I live. Are you from the NYC area? If Not where about do you live. I'm going to talk to my guy possibly tomorrow and find out what positions his company has available on the Coast. He's a BA himself.

That would be great! And yes i live in the NYC area. Let me know. Good looking out, thanks.
NY KNICKS 4 EVER! Will we ever find players like Anthony Mason, Xavier McDaniels, Patrick Ewing again? I hope so.

Worked for Mack-Cali and they've been hit real hard with the uncertainty in the economy. About my whole office was laid-off with me.

Anyone got a position for a Network Administrator in North Jersey?

Sorry to hear that man. Try to stay strong and try not to get too down on yourself.

You should try going to dice.com and register. There will be more information on the website. Also when you get a job again make sure you have another form of investment so you can make money if you get laid off.

You also might want to market yourself as an consultant while you are waiting for a job to come your way. Maybe you can turn this into your own business. Make a business plan and take yourself from there.

I just talked to my friend on the phone and he told me Business Analyst and Systems Analyst professions tend to be industry based. Being that you and Nyk4ever had jobs in the Mortgage industry I'm not sure if your skills would be transferable to say the Medical/Insurance industry. I could be wrong, you would know better than I would. He was recently hired as a SA for Blue Cross Blue Shield, coming from a BA position in the telemarketing industry(WEST Corporation). Interesting to note, he was hired as a SA in the Medical/Insurance industry almost 5yrs removed from BA experience in the Medical industry. He did BA work for an Internal Medicine company 4-5yrs ago, I was his assistance on the Networking/Systems Integration side. Anyway he told me Blue Cross Blue Shield always has positions open and said find the companies who are under the holding company BCBS where you guys are from and see if your experience and skill sets are matches(again previous experience in the Medical/Insurance industry is almost a must) for the position(s) available. He also said look into positions open at Met Life if there are any.

If you lived where I live, I could at least get you a possible interview where my friend works at, they have 3 positions available. I recently helped a guy get a job, who was a brother of a teacher who works at one of the schools I work at. He was basically a walk on.

It is really tough now a days. It is important that people have money saved on the side, and always have a refresh resume.

If you have a head hunter you should be able to find something.

BigC, if you have a headhunter, is it guaranteed you'll find 'something'?

No way. You must continue to check all' avenues available to you. Most jobs I would say are acquired by way of mouth. I've worked many different jobs in my life. And only two of them where a result of a resume/application.

Work the crowd, work the crown.
I'll never trust this' team again.

Most people that I know find a job when they have a headhunter. Especially a good one. I know people that have used a headhunter had have not only found a job, but have also received a pay increase. I really have never heard of a person that can't find a job using a headhunter that have skills. Unless he was getting drunk on the job and going fight Club style he should be ok. It may take two or 3 months but the end result should be at least be productive.

Have you had difficulties with a headhunter?

Also as far as headhunters, they get paid only when they find a job for you. So think of them as a broker that wants to get his/her commission if he/she finds a house for you. Even if they have to prostitute their girlfriend they will try to find you a job.

Of course if the person is a little off or really says the wrong thing in interviews they will not find a job. But headhunters for the most part will set you up for interviews.

Headhunters will not take your case if they feel they can not find you a job.

finding a good headhunter is key... i've dealt w/some crappy ones in the past that do nothing but clog up my email box w/countless leads that don't get me jack & put no effort into following up resume submissions on my behalf.

try Robert Half International if u haven't already nyk, they're pretty good from what my experience has been & they've gotten me a temp gig already in only a couple weeks of using them.

www.roberthalftechnology.com i think is their IT division... not sure if there's one out in NYC tho, but they probably have one.

PS: Good luck to you NYK. You'll get back on your feet in no time. Like Briggs said though, enjoy your short time away from work while you can.

I never used one. I just have been sending resumes online, and looking in the PennySaver and stuff like that. I am even gonna take a trip to North Carolina in the next month and see if I can find anything down there.

I heard headhunters are worth the bargain though. However, my concern is paying them. Are employers actually willing to pay these people, just b/c they found a certain worker for them?

any good headhunter will take their cut from the employer... u should never have to pay a headhunter to find a gig for u out of your own pocket.

Oh I agree, but my concern is what EMPLOYER will pay the headhunter?

there are lots of big corporations using headhunters to weed out unqualified candidates & willing to pay them for their services... it saves them time & money spent on paying staff to scan through all the countless resumes they receive & going through the initial screening process... i got my last job at the ad agency back in NY that way... my headhunter just sent me over to the job site, i had a brief interview w/the creative director, & he hired me on an ongoing freelance basis after my first day there... the headhunter got paid a portion off what the employer was paying to them, but the rate i got paid was already agreed upon by myself & the headhunter before i accepted the position... this position would not have been accessible to me at all unless i actually knew someone already working at the ad agency, & even then some employers just like to use headhunters cuz it's less painful than going through the entire screening process or if they have an immediate need at a position that they absolutely must fill right away.

^Good points. I have been looking at a few of them online, like Aerotech and officeteam.

I think I am gonna register with one. I hear there's a job opening for president/gm of the Knicks.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.
