I saw the special on msnbc, some doctor was bragging about how many girls he could get, what he didn't know was he was on camera ! LOL

child molestation is nowhere near legal in Thailand, & that MSNBC special was about some ped doctor in Cambodia, not Thailand.

isles and travla -

if you guys have never been there, you gotta go to the felix bar on the top floor of the peninsula hotel in kowloon. go take a leak in the mens room there. if you’ve been there you know just what i'm talking about. if you haven’t, you’re in for a treat.

Marv, had a drink at the Felix last night. You were right, it was worth it. Thanks for the tip.

I took a pic of it but I have no idea how to post it here.

I just came back from some cool ass bar in an apartment building and then a place called U-Bar in Shenzhen. I'm exhausted but I'm going to watch some of the NCAA tourney on my mother ****ing slingbox. It's the greatest invention since the realistic love doll, as seen on HBO Real Sex. As you can tell, I'm completely wasted.

Oh, and I'm headed to the Philippines in a few days, I hope you didn't tear it all up and left some for me.

I have a couple of questions for those of you who have been to Thailand.

This fall a few girlfriends and I are tentatively thinking of going to Phuket Thailand in the fall. We basically want to party, hang out on the beach, relax, etc. Is Phuket the best place to accomplish these things? Or would anyone recommend another city in Thailand?

How big of a factor is safety now keep in mind that we're all pretty savy and very careful about people we associate it. Would we be pretty much okay with just a group of females?

Another big question is Phuket overrun with tourist? I generally dislike places that are too touristy.

Most important question is 10 days a good amount of time in terms of traveling over there, spending time, then recovering a bit before heading back to work?

bitty, if u wanna go to the cleanest place in Thailand, Phuket is the place u wanna be... the prices are jacked up moreso than in Pattaya or Bangkok, but those places are seedier & the beaches in Pattaya don't stack up to the clean, warm water u'll find in Phuket, & regardless you should still get good value for the dollar (though maybe not so much now w/the US dollar depreciating the way it has)... i stayed near Patong Beach, which is in the middle where the nightlife happens... there are some other nice places like Ko Samui & Ko Samet that i have also heard good things about, but i've never been there so i can't give u any opinions on those places... stay away from Phuket City inland unless u just wanna check it out, it's a pain in the butt to commute from there to the beaches.

i never had any feeling of being in an unsafe situation when i was in Phuket, but like any other place u probably wouldn't wanna be wandering around outside alone drunk in the middle of the night off the main roads, but as long as u stick to Beach Road that runs along the main strip you should be fine... the closer ur hotel is to Beach Road, the better off you will be... there's always tourists walking around outside at all hours, but most of the bars & clubs close around 2-3 am (at least that was the case when i was there)... depending on which area of the island u stay in, u'll see either lots of Japanese, European & Australian tourists... if u stay in the Northern region of the Island where it's more quiet, you'll see more Honeymooners... there's also a gay district off the main strip too if any of your gf's wanna check that out (insert wise ass comment from another UK poster here).

1 suggestion, if u go to Phuket, make sure u take a day tour to Phi Phi Island... the water is crystal clear & the boats dock along the island to let u go snorkeling... the fish are so tame there they literally eat the food right out of your hand... have a good trip & remember NEVER pay asking price whenever you're buying anything in Thailand (unless it's at a department store or major retailer or you're paying for food)... it's all about haggling & hustling out in Thailand... usually a good starting point for negotiations is 1/3 of the price the vendor is asking, then work your way up from there if you can... if they laugh in your face just be prepared to walk away & 90% of the time they'll give you a better deal.

just to add, no need to pay a US travel agent or pay extra at your hotel to book a day trip to Phi Phi Island... u can get great deals at the travel agent booths that run along Beach Road when u get to Phuket.

This sounds great I hadn't really heard too much about Phuket but I've been wanting to goto Thailand forever. We just wanted to do something more relaxing then our last trip lol. We shopped, went sight-seeing, party until about 3 then wake up at 7 for the next city. It was fun but wanted a different pace this time around lol. So I'm definetly going to keep all this information you just gave me. Hopefully we'll get a chance to check out most of the places you just gave me.

Thanx

np, let me know if u have any other questions... u should read up on the Thailand travel forums too if u get a chance, u can find out all the good places to go on those usually.

i took Cathay Pacific over there w/1 stopover in Hong Kong, 2 stopovers on the way back (1 in Vancouver)... it's a long ass flight so be prepared for some serious jetlag when u get back home.

I'm planning on dropping some dough on my flight thats just one thing I won't skimp on. Hate flying so I want it to be as comfortable and safe (no near-death experiences lol) as possible. You know I was thinking of doing a stop-over also in Hong Kong even if its for a day check it out. And I'm anticipating the jet-lag to be a major pain.

Also because i'm a lazy bitch could you link those forums?

Before, during AND after.

I'm in Cebu now. It's 36 degrees Celsius. No idea what that is in Fahrenheit but it's really hot and sunny out. Played a little golf this morning, had some lunch and now getting some rest before I go out tonight for dinner and some fun.

At the airport, there are pictures of Martin posted. He really must have had a good time in the Philippines.
