and no one knew that the grizzlies wanted to dump gasol for cap room either. I just heard rumblings that the suns were interested in gasol and would have considered moving amare in such a deal. I know these are all talks, but I would have been on the phones as soon as I heard some rumblings...

But no one knows if Amare was seriously on the table. D'Antoni already went on record this yr as saying he wants the team in tact to make one final run at a championship before they start tinkering. Thats why Marion wasn't traded. I like the move by Memphis if their plan is to manage their cap and they are assured of landing in the Lottery by the time they exercise those picks from the Lakers. So they have Conley and will add a big time talent this summer and another next summer if they don't trade their picks. They have a couple tradeable assets in the fold. It's what you call rebuilding while at the same time possibly having a chance to land a player via FA. Of course this is all foreign to us.

To be fair, there's no guarantee that Bynum and Gasol will mesh. Both will likely see their numbers reduced and they may struggle to find enough space on the floor.

But the difference between their situation and ours is they have players who can feed the post, and even if Bynum and Gasol struggle offensively I see little reason to expect them to be wastes defensively.

Lakers should be fun to watch, and getting Fisher back was a good pickup too.

awesome deal for MEM imo... they unload Pau's contract & get 3 1st round calibre guys + cap relief w/Kwame's expiring... Kobe's probably happy for now but he'll start bitching about a trade again just as soon as Pau goes down to another injury.

They get 2 1st round picks which will be 25/30, which is nothing to celebrate. I see it as a typical Clippers/Hawks of 5 years ago. It might work for them, but it seems to me that they got very little for Gasol.

personally i think Gasol's very overrated on these forums... he's not a strong defender in the paint & he's injured half the time... for an 18 & 8 player getting back 3 1st round picks & cap flexibility is well worth it from the Grizzlies' perspective.
