Exactly, unless you have the number one pick (or in this case, the top 3 picks) the draft is about the future, not about next season. Your chances of getting a player who impacts your team his rookie season is probably 1 in 7.

The Knicks have done a nice job of planting some seeds for later.

That's done, and now the work is all about trades and free agency. We have to improve our defense in the paint and our ability to score in the post. Our perimeter scoring is good, but we are powerless under the basket.
I think one major step in the right direction would be going after Lamar Odom this summer. New York is going to trade Sprewell anyways and will need a replacement because Maciej Lampe won't be ready. Hopefully he can be our 6th or 7th man off the bench and contribute a little next year though. Sweetney should start if McDyess is not healthy and if Dyess is than Sweetney should be the 6th man off the bench. Hopefully the Knicks can make a couple moves though. I'm thinking a deal with Atlanta would be in each team's best interest. Sprewell and Thomas or Harrington for Glenn Robinson and Nazr Mohammed or Theo Ratliff would work or something like that.

def
execellent post,
even greats like bryant, notiwkski, garnett, and tmac took time to develop.
it will take time. but we need more action.
A good gm should forecast that kobe and garnett will be free agents next season.

both men have a lot to prove, kobe wants to get out of shaqs shadow, he got half the deal lebron got, think that doesnt piss him off. garnett wants to get out the first round. think he aint pissed off the vanilla garnett tim duncan is winning rings.

but of course we got weatherspoon eisley,THE POPE doleac and now some machismo bruising foward named sweetney oh yeah and the scandinavian norse god the 7-4 science project, ehhh center who has a winged hat and plays with a hammer and makes it rain if the opposing teams scores 10 in a row.

I can't believe you Ares Ice whatever, you seem to think if you get the ninth pick that it's like getting the top 3 in draft. Man youR now logic proves you're a generation ex fool who wants everything "NOW". Well some things take time just like growing up as a person. Just chill and watch Chaney do work with LAMP AND VRANES AND SWEETNEY. A lot of yall had "crow soup" with crumb bread for ya comments on this yrs draft. Leave Layden alone good things will come to the knicks , the hex is over!

playa the idiot in you just breeds confidence. how much different is it from what i said and you. these were decent pickups, we will not win a nba cause of these pickups, but for the knicks they were good. we need a lot more work and time.
Chaney is a loser yes man
and layden is a clueless idiot.
and bobby is a clown.

We basically saying the same thing.

Maybe, my young padawan, maybe. But they need to rid themselves of the foul contract that is Allan Houston.

That, master jedi, will not happen. The force is strong with Houston's agent, apparently.

The Knicks are willing to play an exhibition game in Madrid and conduct coaching clinics for Real Madrid's staff. As a model, Pau Gasol's buyout clause in Spain was $3M but reduced to less than $1M with agreements to play an exhibition game. NY will have him in summer league just watch and see. NY is on their way back!

Well if these rumors are true then I would be more then happy to see Lampe in an NY uniform this summer and then on the squad this season - but did you see Chaney's remarks about Sweetney? He didnt even give him much of a good outlook on getting minutes next season. Now maybe thats just the way he is talking now...but if I were the Knicks I would spend more time developing these young guys then wasting major minutes on role playing veterans.

Playa2 are you Laydown’s little baby cousin or something? Speaking for myself I’m not hating on the Knicks organization, per se. I just hate what the Knicks have become. Do you think if we had a team like the Kings or the Mavs…even a team saturated with upside like the Suns…and not this milquetoast dreck that’s called the Knicks, that we would have Scott Laydown’s feet to the fire? It seems like the whole league either has a much better team or is in a much better position then the Knicks. I guess you define loyal fan by putting your head in the sand and pretending as if everything is a ok.

And I’m not buying the built in excuse that Laydown inherited a bad situation therefore mitigating his responsibility. Ideal, no; But Scott dug his own ditch. Eisely, Spoon, Houston, Harrington, Anderson, Knight ext…Those are his boys that he paid top dolla for. Don’t castigate Knick fans for calling him on his ineptitude. This is a lazy, uninspired management team who have their priorities everywhere but where it should be.

In any event, you’ve got to send me those rose tinted glasses you are watching the Knicks with. Maybe it might prevent this oncoming ulcer.

Who is the sebstar cat coming in here with under a hundred post giving the obvious like we all don't know what happen. Man get a grip and watch this team get back on track, you can't change the past and neither can I , but one thing I do know Layden will right this ship and you will be right here rooting on the team that he put back together.

When this team gets back on track, the bandwagon fills quickly. The minute things go wrong, and they do....rescue, understanding and patience takes on new meaning.

When the Knicks introduced Mike Sweetney yesterday at the Garden, Don Chaney ranked his new No.1 pick ahead of incumbents Othella Harrington and Clarence Weatherspoon in the one area in which his team needs vast improvement: scoring in the low post. OASIS Get a grip man and stop hating!
