How can my observations be dead wrong when it was Isiah who described the offensive system and I still believe that if he used more of those principles we'd be more successful. He's gone away from the concepts he came in with.
Tell me genius how the idea of more motion is Crap? Whenever we have more player movement and passing the offense looks much better. What is crap is the stand around and force it into the post offense Isiah has shown this year.
'luva, when you speak of the promised offense I assume you refer to The Quick offense that you were certain would utilize our "dual all-star" backcourt of Marbury and Francis to best advantage.
If you'll recall, we tried that at the start of last season. I don't remember the exact point when Isiah gave up on that pairing, "Hardawayed" Francis, and chose to force it low to Eddy, but I can tell you that at this point last season (27 games in) our record was 10-17. That in a season unmarked by death and bereavement.
Every year you seem to think it's little more than gosh darn bad luck that does them in, and all that's needed is for the dust to settle or a little tweak to the system to get them playing to their full potential.
This team has plummeted under Lenny, Herb, Larry and Isiah. How many more coaches are you thinking to try?
I'll remind you like the others before you that this group hasn't played under all those coaches. MOST of these players have only played for LB and Isiah.
True, not all of these guys go back that far. But the power base did. Marbury and Crawford, two of our captains, where there. And the tawdry relationship between Isiah and Marbury, from which much of this team's chaos stems, was firmly in place at the time. The beast was spawned.
Putting aside that the same thing happened under Lenny too, most of the rest where here for Larry and two years for Isiah. This is the third consecutive year with this kind of play. How many seasons do you need to see it to know it's predictable? We're at three or four, depending on how you chose to count. How many more will it take?
Isiah's decision to move away from his offense is a mistake IMO. It was then and is now.
We were turnover city. Our record was largely the same even without the AWOL incidents, Isiah losing the team with the vote, and the bereavement.
Tell me what is so hard about running Curls, Screens, Cuts after making a pass etc? what is so hard about pick and roll or give and go? You make it sound like these concepts are so tough that our players can't run them. If you can watch the game again and look at the position of our players on most sets. Look to see how many times we actually run a set that has motion and the results of those plays. Aside from the one on one stuff with Jamal, we didn't really play any team ball. This year and even last year when we had 20 assists the record was good. That kind of ball and player movement is all i'm talking about and this team can do it. Isiah has chosen to run the offense the way it is now and it's too stagnant. If he wanted more movement then he'd run sets that had more movement, obviously he's changed his philosophy.
I would have no problem with him running a more sophisticated offense if he thought the players could handle it. But in the meantime, Isiah is running pretty much the same offense as Larry Brown and Red Holzman. When guys play hard, execute and defend the results are much better. Haven't you noticed that even with this team?
