Everyday it's the same thing: The Post or Daily News writes some sensationalized headline to get a reaction, it's re-posted here, and the reactionaries react.

Ewing wasn't loved here in NY. I clearly remember the treatment he got, cuz he wasn't Hakeem or Shaq. The losses to Michael didn't help either.

The Media used to bait him into making his predictions of success or don't you guys remember that? This Steph stuff is no different. They kept throwing Kidd in his face for years until one day he snapped and made the now infamous "I feel i'm the best PG" statement. This is what the media in NY does. It doesn't matter who you are. They tried to take down Derek Jeter for not openly supporting A Rod when the fans were blasting him. They said it was a lack of leadership yadda yadda.

Look Steph is no saint and he's a grown man, responsible for his own actions, but don't act like the NY media doesn't actively create trouble where none exists or stoke the fire a bit with their headlines.

Comparing Steph to Ewing is an insult to our intelligence. The majority of fans loved Ewing and respected him for what he was... even moreso when he was finally off the Knicks. The majority of fans now hate Steph and will hate Steph when he's gone as well. Steph isn't baited into saying dumb things by the media. Steph is just dumb.

I think you're overstating the fans real feelings about Ewing. Besides this isn't so much about the fans as it is about the way the media stirs up the negative attitudes about our star athletes. Ewing faced it and was considered a very standoffish and sullen man. I remember everything about the Ewing years and it wasn't a total lovefest as you seem to be trying to paint things.

Steph isn't hated by all fans. There is however a very vocal portion of the fans that does hate him and that lends itself to the perception that everyone hates him. All that can change if this team has some success this year. Steph may make dumb statements and do dumb things, but that doesn't mean that the press isn't stirring up things to make it worse. Clearly they do this all the time.
