The Celtics have no reason to brawl. They have a terrific season going and they will not put that in jeopardy just because the Knicks stink.

I also believe the Celtics will look to make a huge statement on Thursday in front of a national audience and that the Knicks could get a serious beat down as a result.

cosmic - there is no such thing as a paraphrased quote

either quote a person directly and exactly or leave it alone

I can't remember exact wording from a YEAR ago. Can you? No.

Therefore, take it for what it is, the man DID say these things prior to road trips and back to backs. He excused a loss before it even happened and when it did happen he reiterated those same things.

If you want to be in denial over comments Isiah has made, just like he's already blamed the media for getting blown out in Boston in the preseason and already blamed the schedule for a loss earlier this year (Road trip back to back), then that's of course your right.

Yet, you contradict yourself when you call fellow fans losers for expecting a loss but not the coach who expected many losses and told us why before the games were even played.

marv albert, reggie miller, and mike fratello! should be a love fest.

hey, I LOVE those guys. 'Cept for Reggie. He's a tard.

yeah, but they all have a reason to HATE the knicks. well, we all have a reason to hate, but let's see if it creeps into their reporting:

marv: "Fatty, I mean Curry, turns the ball over AGAIN!"

fratello: "what it comes down to Marv, is just poor coaching...[under breath] stupid gm firing me before i even can start the job."

reggie: "the knicks suck. I will now fellate ray allen because he reminds me of me."

So you believe I am making it up? The man said what he said prior to and after games. A constant excuse machine. He prepared us to expect a loss then when we lost he reiterated his concerns. He always cited back to backs, going up against good teams, road games, injuries, booing fans, the damage Larry Brown did, the roster he inherited from Layden and this year is newest excuse is the media.

I believe it's you who have not been following his comments much or you're just in complete denial as to their context.

Isiah said these things and you have no problem with it. You call fans like myself "losers" to which I take offense to because I don't think we have a shot to beat the red hot Celtics in Boston.

So you're either incorrect in calling out other fans in an insulting manner, of which you certainly are, or you're biased in relation to whom actually says what.

Cosmic - I never, EVER insulted you. All I asked for was the quote. If that is asking too much or an insult to you than I sincerely apologize.

so, since bickering is not my bag baby...

“We’re not in awe of them,” Richardson said. “They ain’t won no championships. They got a good record right now, but that don’t matter.”

The Celts are good, but let's not get carried away. They aren't unbeatable and we as fans shouldn't be conceding a loss to the C's. What has happened to the proud and formidable NY Knick fan? When did we become this group of defeatist self haters with a loser mentality? Too often I'm reading posts suggesting that there's no real chance against good teams and the best we can hope for is a moral victory of putting up a good fight. During the losing streak I can understand that mentality, but NOW? We just saw our team playing the way that we expected them to play and this should give us hope of better performances for the rest of the year.

Instead all I read is how in the last 7 years this team hasn't done it. Well i've got news for you. MOST OF THE TEAM WASN'T HERE 7 YEARS AGO!!!! You should really only be going back 2 years when Curry got here and most of the rest of the team came aboard. This history you speak of consists of LB's sabotaged season and last year! SO this proves that this team can't win? Man get over yourselves and get with the program. All it took was 1 losing streak and guys developed a yellow streak down the spine and are hiding in a cave.

Where is the Celtic hatred and desire to see them get stomped by our home team? Where is the NY Knick pride?

Fair enough.

Interesting you'd bring up a QRich quote.

Was just watching the end of Daily News Live and one of the commentators brought up that QRich said today that if you took away the Big-3 that we'd be just as good as Boston.

I'll be damned if I know where he was going with that quote.

Bragadoccio, Pissed or Just Plain Fired Up?

“It's not that big a deal to us," Richardson said of facing the 11-2 Celtics. “It's like the media makes more of The Big Three and all of them. We're not in awe of them. They ain't won no championships. They have a good record right now, but that don't matter. Dallas showed that [last season]."

“They're not that deep of a team," Richardson said. “After those three, there's a significant dropoff."

Cosmic - Richardson is simply speaking his mind. He, like a few other Knicks players, may remember the foul aftertaste of the 60 point pre season loss. Q is a leader. He is leading by setting the tone for tonight.

"Bus' dem mo'fo's upside da head!"

(and I'm wid dat)

People complain about the Knicks not competing "hard" on a nightly basis, well, games like tonight get the juices flowing. You start with the Utah win and build passion from there. We will see how it plays out on the court in terms of intensity and aggressiveness.

Isiah as the ringleader knows the value of playing with intensity and purpose. I don't see a problem with stoking the fires in advance. None whatsoeva.

(from NYPost)
Isiah Thomas also remains a tried-and-true Celtics hater - he said yesterday that he has no green garment in his entire wardrobe - and wants Boston to give him a reason to renew that bad blood.

“With me personally, it's always a rivalry against the Celtics," Thomas said. “That's ingrained in me. I think we need to build up a little history with this team."

I don't mind our players speaking their minds but I think they're just not being smart. What was it that Zach said early in the preseason? We're not going to talk we'll let our play speak for itself? What happened to that quote that probably had James Dolan happy as can be seeing that's his policy as well?

Then we have everyone talking. There's no need for it. It shows a lack of constraint on their parts. At 4-9 you don't speak ill of the 11-2 team leading the Conference. As if being on national TV isn't enough of an incentive for the Celtics to play a very clean tough game wire to wire - now imagine being the Big3 and hearing QRich say that without them they stink.

Now what? We get our heads caved in 5 minutes into the game and those bench guys come in and increase the lead on our bewildered team!?

I'm all for firing up your own teammates but our guys comments seem more likely to fire up the opposition!

Well, Knicks, you've talked all this bullcrap the past few weeks, and now QRich has spoken crap about tonight's game. You lose? Especially if by a lot? WHAT FAITH SHOULD WE HAVE IN YOUR EMPTY PROMISES!?

This team better show up tonight. IF they lose, FINE, I can live with that - if - IF they play HARD FOR 48 MINUTES! I don't care if you're down 10-0 to open the game you damn well better make it 10-2 on a tough play on the other end and keep on fighting right to the wire.

Cosmic - these guys have micrtophones shoved in their faces by more media than any other franchise, if they were afraid to speak honestly they would be villified for being punks.

Nowhere did Quentin make a promise, empty or otherwise. Unless you want to attach your own meaning, Richardson was just being bluntly honest about his feelings towards the hated Celtics. He hates 'em and I hate 'em too so what does that mean?

We have a love connection.

If the Celtics come in fired up, all the better to test the mettle of the Knicks who are suddenly smelling themselves a bit more than last week at this same time.

Good for them. Now go out and hit the first guy that attempts a layup.

Hard.

and anudder thing..

... given his abbreviated preseason and death of a beloved family member, I'd say Zach has delivered on every bit of his promise to let his play do the talking.

he's not even broken out with a signature dominant game and STILL manages to double double every night.

oh it is SO on!

Yeah but there's always a diplomatic way out of questions. The good ones know how to dance around the media. Isiah does it constantly. The players slip up and fall for the trap then say things they REALLY should not say - especially given their position at 4-9.

QRich didn't have to say that just like Marbury did not have to say "Yeah, I'm the Best" when tricked into that one. Yet, they do, and it's damaging regardless of how much weight you put into media comments.

Q is smarter than that (or well, maybe he's not). All he had to say was "Boston's a solid team off to a good start and we're going to head up there tonight and play a tough game and make them work."

That's all! What's so hard!?

Marbury: "I think I'm one of the top guards in the league absolutely."

WHAT IS SO FRIGGIN HARD!?

Isiah: "The schedule throws twists and turns at you but you just have to be prepared and ready to go every night."

WHAT IS SO DAMN HARD!?!?!?!?

Noooo... instead we get QRICH: "Boston sucks without the big 3 GO KNICKS!" <---you better believe thats how Boston interprets the comments, right or wrong now, i'm speaking objectively here.

Marbury: "IM THE BEST" <---- league interpretation? IM THE BEST! FALL BACK! (hey, again, right or wrong, baited or not, at the end of the day the interpretation of the majority matters more than your comments or the context they were intended to be in.)

Isiah: Yeah, well, back to back on the road, the schedule sucks, I cant help it! Yeah, well, (----) is a good team and we're still young so well dont expect much! <----- again, crap comments, interpretated negatively by the majority = DAMAGING COMMENTS.

DO you kind of see what I am getting at?

These guys need to SHUT UP and PLAY HARD for 48 MINUTES every game I dont care if it's the 10th game in 10 nights on the road against the leagues elite!

----NO EXCUSES----

And for the love of god learn how to be political in your answers to the media!?

If you were asked about Perkins would you:

A) He's done nuttin in this league I've been here twice as long and done twice as much he's nuttin!"

or

B) He's a solid young player who brings it every night and I'm going to be prepared to give him a really tough game tonight.

?????????

Knicks = A
Smart Players = B

A = Media crap storm.
B = crickets.

Our team is either STUPID or loves the crap storms.

Cosmic - as long as there are professional franchises in New York there will ALWAYS be the juicy quote factor. So be it.

Let's take a random sample of the participants:

Bill Parcells was one of the few to intimidate and have advocates at the same time. He despised the press conference and managed it at the same time with his pithy one liners that have turned some into Coors ads.

A-Rod is too damn good looking, too talented and makes way too much money. Ergo he IS the enemy. He must be stopped.

Marbury?

You cannot extract Marbury's quote as being the "best point guard" from his same Coney Island housing projects where he started... and really get all that carried away or bent out of shape over it, especially if you've ever played ball on a fiercly competitive playground in any inner city.

The tempest in a teapot over Marbury standing up and thumping his chest, whether he needed to or not is not the issue. There are simply too many writers who have never, EVER set foot in... or competed for "next" with guys twice their size.

You don't get picked by slumping in the corner.

All I'm offereing is that athletes don't always toe the company line and I love them for it. On the flip side, Jamal Crawford is so well rehearsed that his answers come straight from the "Standard Answers to Standard Questions" manual. He studied so well that he comes off as intelligent and annoyed at the same time. Notice how he rushes off the set to not allow anything too demanding.

These are not diplomats. They are basketball players.

Rough edges and all.

New York teams tend to play poorly in big games as of lately. Look for the KNicks to get blown out. I will root hard for the Knicks as I hate the Celtic and that goes back. The Knicks never seem to play well against Boston.
