He's making it sound like Chicago or nothing and Chicago just doesn't have the horses or salaries to make the deal untill Dec.15 when Nocioni is tradable. The question is then whether LA wants to do the deal for a less than stellar package of Nocioni, Gordon, Noah etc. Untill then its anybody's guess, but I think he'll veto any trade untill he can go to Chicago.

As far as I can tell NY hasn't made an offer, but Kobe doesn't think we'd be close enough to contending.

I'd highly suspect we've made an offer, just like 28 other teams. But it does sound like it's Chicago or nothing, which is absurd for a guy who seemed to want out with desperate urgency.

We've heard names leaked for several other team except ours. That's why I'm not so sure we've made any bids.

Isiah tried to convince Kobe to sign as a MLE FA before last season, but i haven't heard anything about any trade offers made to the Lakers.

If the Det rumor is true and he has vetoed going there if you've been keeping up with the Kobe saga he's already informed us he doesn't want to play here so we need to squash this. No matter what we'd offer, keeping in mind he doesn't want to go to a gutted team, he doesn't want to come here citing about a month ago...... "we have too much drama going on", and it's only escalated since then.

You're such a fan of getting this guy have you had problems keeping up with the news?

Well I'll be honest, I haven't followed the Kobe saga all that closely, do we know who his short list includes?

I would assume: NY, CHI, Clippers.

If we take NY off that list, how serious can he be about his willingness to be traded?

You and I both echoed the thought his veto clause and short list makes it very hard. He's really a Fruit Case. The Bulls are on his list because of Jordan nothing more. Also demanding no Deng included on deals. The other team was Dallas. Well Cuban about a month ago said they aren't all that interested in trading him but they had some preliminary discussion involving Howard and Terry. I don't think he wants to be traded as bad as he made it out to be but he does want to take all the heat off himself and put it on the management for the failures of that franchise. We were on his list in the very beginning but haven't been mentioned since.

That sounds about right, I suppose. The one thing doubt is that MJ is his motivation for wanting Chicago. Those are impossibly big shoes to fill and a setup to failure. I think it's just a major market team on the rise. And one that satisfies the incentives of his endorsement contracts.

I'd think the Clips are on his list too though.

No one from the Lakers or Knicks have said they've even discussed any possible trades for Kobe yet... his list of potential suitors is getting thinner & thinner, & i don't see any way in hell the Lakers trade him to a Western Conference team, so scratch teams like the Rockets, Dallas, Clippers & Phoenix off the list... NY is probably the one team out there that offers him the market he's looking for along w/the potential to compete after a trade is made, & offers the Lakers a chance to get Kobe as far away from LA as possible & still get back some good young talent in return who the trading partner would be willing to give up... i think CHI still has a remote shot at reviving the trade talks, but that's only if they end up w/a favorable pick & are willing to throw it into the package in the offseason... even still, i have to think the Knicks' likely lottery pick will be able to tip the scales back in our favor... if Marbury & Isiah both get handed their walking papers this season, which right now seems almost inevitable, then i can easily see Kobe changing his stance on wanting to come here.

I agree, and Kobe would be exactly the kind of deal he'd want the next GM to begin with to reenergize the Garden. It's like deja vu all over again.

deja vu except you're replacing a wannabe franchise player like Marbury for a legitimate franchise talent in Kobe... big difference there if u ask me.

I agree, and I don't hate Kobe, he's at least entertaining to watch. But I really don't want another situation where an egocentric outsider player instantly becomes the most important person in the franchise. It might be time to till the soil, get some really good seeds, and grow our own.

yeah, i can understand having ur qualms about it... Kobe's not exactly known to be the quintessential team player & does come w/some baggage of his own, but man u gotta love that big game ability he's got.

Billups, Kobe, Rasheed, McDyess, Maxiell

He vetoed that? That team is certainly a match for anyone in the East. Where is he looking to go? This is reminding me of Arod.

Dice and Weed are going out the door soon. I'd pass also. Remember, Kobe has only one chance to go to a contender, not a rebuilder. Good move.
I'll never trust this' team again.

Prince and Rip are two battle tested, all-star caliber players. Plus a 1st round pick. How many teams have more to give?

That pick would be near 30 nothing to write home about but Rip and Tay-Tay is a respectable package. But for the best player in the league hands down the package is still lacking. Plus if I get rid of Kobe I'd want to go full blown rebuild route. I need something that'll get me young talent or high picks. With Kobe's veto power it makes it difficult for them. It goes to show he isn't about winning either. Why not go to Det, that team would be a force to be reckoned with if he decides to play team ball.

I say buyout half of suckbury's last year, throw in four other guys and trade for him now. Why not?!
I'll never trust this' team again.

Kobe needs big market.
Detroit... come on. Bad place to stay.
Kobe will go to NY... but only after Isiah and Marbs will be gone.

Yeah, you guys ever been to Detroit? Depressing. There's no people downtown. It's still a very segragated city (town).
I'll never trust this' team again.

You could be right, and it'll be like Isiah and Marbury all over again. The faces will be different but the story will be the same.

Watch out for predictions we'll be winning a 'chip in two years.

I would prefer to suck with Kobe.
He is something to watch.
And if Zen Master will bite... You never know man...

The Zen is not going to give up a future of ownership. Why would he trade that to work for someone like Dolan? Eeeekkk!!!
I'll never trust this' team again.

If Brand was healthy yeah or if they can keep winning and look in decent position by deadline time but then again the Lakers don't have to accommadate.

how do u propose to buy out half of Marbury's salary & still be able to trade him when the most cash you can include in any single trade is $3 million?

Yeah, there is no way in hell we did not make an offer. But our only hope of getting him was to have a successful start to the season and rub some of the smell off from the summer. You see how that is going. There is no way we get him now until the summer if we get a top lottery pick.

The Lakers have shown that they'd rather keep Kobe and let him suffer than make a trade where they're not getting A LOT back.
