The Boston Celtics announced today that they have acquired 10-time All-Star and 2004 MVP Kevin Garnett from the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Ryan Gomes, Gerald Green, Al Jefferson, Theo Ratliff, Sebastian Telfair, a 2009 first round draft pick (top three protected) and a return of Minnesota's conditional first round draft pick previously obtained in the Ricky Davis-Wally Szczerbiak trade. Minnesota also receives cash considerations in the deal.

sounds to me like BOS gave up a helluva lot to get KG
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

You didnt have to give up anything for Zach dont you think that was a clue. Portland saved about 20 million and got rid of a cancer.

hey, but look what we gained King... we got a guy who's gonna help us win 38 games this year... u can't find those growing on trees these days.

Im sorry but even KG's couldn't get his team to .500 with no real supporting cast. Zach never proclaimed himself as the "franchise player" but yet everyone wants to hang that rope around his neck. He's not a franchise player okay we all get that!

First Boston gave a some quality young players and please dont compare Kevin Garnett and Zach Robinson the only thing Zach is better at is getting arrested. Zach team was awful the last two years and he doesnt make people better.

But Zach is getting franchise money. What I am saying if you trade for Zach you get rid of Lee for a lottery pick then you're a much better team.

Read my above post no one is annoiting him a franchise player your the one putting him into that box. But if you can just wrap your mind the idea that Zach could be just another piece of a puzzle than maybe just maybe you would understand that Zach Randolph alone with no complimentary outside players around isn't going to turn a sub-par team in a Eastern Conference Final contender.

What am I writing tonight sanskrit?

I rather be paying Zach franchise money than Steve Francissy or would you have preferred him on the roster?

Well Bitty I will go on record that Curry and Randolph will never win big on the same team. Under this regime the Knicks wont ever win.

I agree 100% you could bring in Duncan and this regime would screw it up.

Zach Randolph’s voice was weak and his eyes red as he dressed at his locker late Wednesday night. Randolph had spent the past four days in Indiana, grieving the death of his grandmother. He had 16 points and 19 rebounds on Wednesday night, but no regrets about coming back after missing two games. “It’s difficult,” Randolph said. “I know that’s what my grandma wanted me to do, was come and play. She probably would have been mad if I would have stayed.” Randolph left the team again to attend a funeral in Indiana on Friday. He will miss the game against the Sacramento Kings and is uncertain for Saturday’s game in Denver.

The problem is our two best front court players are probably Zach and Lee, but they both play the same position. The GM can't really make a move until he's sure what combinations of Lee, Zach and Eddy can work and which can't. It's the throwing of things against the wall to see what sticks theory at play.

Ideally it would be nice if we could keep Lee happy getting 30 mins backing up both of them, but , like last night his minutes are capricious, and he probably wants a starters role, and a starters paycheck, in a healthier and more uptempo environment.

Because he's a soon to be FA he holds some juice in the matter.

Yup.

And listen, Lee is awesome. I love DLee. But to say Zach doesn't run the foor is preposterous.......and this is coming from an established hater.

Zach runs the floor just as good as David Lee. He's not as explosive vertically, but I'd say he's more athletic making moves WITH the ball.

My solution: Among doing other things, deal Lee for a shotblocker in the lottery this summer...

Does 2 things - gives us small window of cap space in '09 (if we're prudent), and helps interior d.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

That's blasphemous.

20 &10 guys GET traded. Look at Marbury, arguably more "troublesome" than Zach in his career, and teams took a chance on him 4 times...

It's not accurate to say that Zach doesn't make hustle plays. When you can't jump and yet you STILL get rebounds on both ends that's HUSTLE. He's not great on D, but he gives effort.

well yeah, no kidding... that's sorta the entire point i'm trying to make here... we traded for a non franchise player who's making franchise level dollars once again... when are we finally going to learn our lesson & stop throwing bad money after good for these reclamation projects that never do anything for our team but prolong the salary cap hell this team has been in for the past decade?

^ Zach was signed to a 6 Year 84 Million $ deal.

That's 14 mill a year. That's alot. But it's not franchise money.

Compare it to Marbury's contract extension in 2003 - 4 Year 77 Million.

That's more than 19 a year. THAT'S franchise money.

coincidentally, David Lee's rebounds have gone down to 7.5 from the 10.4 he averaged last season... but it's great that Zach is leading the league in rebounds... i didn't realize that rebounding was 1 of our problems going into this season tho... maybe when Zach starts to block shots & play low post defense i'll change my mind about the idea of acquiring him.

When did Lee start to Block shot and play defense. The man can't even hit the broad side of a barn from 10 feet out. Zach so far is the best new the Knicks have to provide.

D Lee was already a piece of this team & brought the rebounding that we needed & last time i checked he makes a helluva lot less in salary... what the hell was the point in bringing in a $61 million dollar player that rebounds & scores in the paint when we already had 2 players that addressed those needs here already? can someone tell me that cuz i haven't heard 1 logical argument to defend that question since the trade was made.

Its not quite logical- but you add a player like Zach because he's the best you can get for Francis & Frye- and if things don't work out with Curry & Zach, you've got the flexibility to possibly trade Curry for another player who fits in the scheme better.

Yes, its fantasy basketball...

First Marbury is the biggest loser int he history of basketball. Someone may trade for Zach but it will be a bad organization. It wont be a top tier franchise. If we get a new GM the first thing they will do is trade one of the three bigs
