I dont see how they could have bungled on Ewing and Houston. They just busted their bodies playing the game hard. As for Dyess he was damaged goods. But they could have bungled his medical exam.
Ewing said the Knicks medical staff told him he could not hurt his ankle (achilles) any further in '99 and he could play in the playoffs, but he in fact did hurt it further, so he was unable to play in the finals, and his ankle is what finally forced him to retire.
Houston was brought back way to quickly after his microfracture as well as previously cleared to play through injury he should have let heal or gotten an operation for.
