As we hear misterear dispel any and all doubts, is it of any relevance that Jamal stank up preseason?

I'm pleased to see Jamal taking it into the paint, that's highly significant, but lets not think for a second he's past being streaky.

In order to be considered truly Jedi, the question is how far a distance can you detect a star from?

So the fact that he's been a streaky player his whole career has absolutely no bearing on anything in your mind? Since he's playing well, it's now a fact he wont revert back to his chucking ways?

I don't want him to revert back but I also am not going to tease myself into thinking he's a changed player without seeing more than 3 games.

Gerald Wallace, Danny Granger, Jason Maxiell, Josh Smith, Bynum, Lowry, those some of stars seen from far away......

Jamal Crawford is not a star nor will he ever be, he has all world talent combined with no basketball brain. He has started hot and looked much better going to the rim, basketball is not hard if you figure out how to play under control and outwork the next guy, because the NBA is filled with lazy players who don't care.

If Jamal continues to be aggressive and not launch off balanced three pointers he is very valuable player, and rarely missed when he sets himself, but the likely hood of that happening is not that high. Much like Curry getting into great shape and hustling every game, you can't count on change after 7 years.

But we will see

Fine Misterearl, the problem is that if/when your star is eclipsed, will you man up and say, "oops! perhaps my jedi skills are not what I thought they were?" Or, will you be off spinning it by focusing on some other star, and calling people blind for not seeing that one?

I expect the latter.

stop the stereotypipcal madness

MS - what entitles you to label Jamal as having "no basketball brain"?

"No" brain is as harsh as it gets, and qualifies for some qualification in my basketball book. Then again, your keen analysis of the off-balance three-pointer is absolutely ground-breaking and fascinating in the same breath. Please elaborate.

If the NBA is filled with lazy players who don't care then why do you care?

When You Wish Upon a Star

To be honest Panos, I think David Lee is an emerging star. Whether or not he is able to hold down Hedo or Garrity on the perimter tonight.

What do you think?

Earl you never ever make a relevant point, you just pose questions.

I care because I love this game, and grew up watching this team and loved the fact that guys like Starks, LJ, Spree, Ewing, Mason, Oakley on down gave their all and fought for wins and protected the homecourt and had great pride.....

What entitles me to label Jamal having no basketball brain?
1. Jamal has never played on a winning team, nor has he won more than 35 games in 7 seasons
2. Jamal shoots 40% every season and makes the same mistakes year after year and never changes his game, shooting his team out of games and playing outside of a team concept forcing shots, igniting fast breaks all while playing out of control. Where is the stereotype? Is there really a need to question a player that is 6'5 and can beat anyone off the dribble and shoots the same percentage year after year and has been label a chucker, a play ground player, someone that is all flash and no result....

Depends what you mean. Star might be a bit strong unless he can expand his game.
I will say that I think he's an extremely solid team player that I am very happy to
have on my team, that leaves it all on the court, and I can get behind as a fan.

"The good teams do that, they don't allow themselves to have letdowns," Jamal Crawford said after practice yesterday. "Isiah talked about it, reminding us it's not just a one-game thing. We've got to continue to bring that intensity and the same passion. It's like when the Nets see us. They have that fire in their eyes."

I say this and you attack me with a viciousness never before seen on a message board. Isiah says it, and you quote him.

fishmike - instead of throwing down the expected gauntlet, I think killa4 is hoping to invite discussion, on whether there is any unique evidence from Jamal's early season that can be used to build a case for him actually TAKING the next step.

Not his past.

Aren't the first three games now part of his past? What's the cutoff for evaluation? I just want to know for my future analysis.

Jamal has the talent to be a star. These three games he has played offensively like one of the best players the Knicks have had in a while. HIs defense has been poor and needs improvement for him to lead us to new levels. The rest remains to be seen.

Anyone associated with basketball can see the guy is talented. Anyone associated with basketball can see that there is a chance he could turn the corner into greatness. Anyone associated with basketball can also see his past and realize that he has done it before and that he will be considered great when he can do this for an extended period of time and not over a period of three games.

Jamal has always been one of my favorites. I have had little bad to say about the guy even through his poor shot selection. But I will not give him credit for greatness until he actually achieves greatness. To me this is fair. To others this is entirely unreasonable.

The Answer Man Searches for his Patented Louis Orr Game Face

Q. bip - Aren't the first three games now part of his past?

A. Definately. The only thing that matters is the here and now... and tonight

Q. bip - What's the cutoff for evaluation?

A. So long as Jamal is wearing the orange and blue, there is no cutoff.
