I hate to say it but Boston really is doing it well these days. Good infusion of youth and good FA's to get the quality starters. Beckett came up big for them.

Theo really made them over like the Yanks. Funny they wanted to dump manny for 75 cents on the dollar for a few years and he turns out to be the back bone of the team.

They won the Indian series when they feared his arm in fenway!!! that was hysterical.

I have long lothed the Red Sox, or anything from boston over the years and While I did not root for them I am not bothered by their success as I do resect them now.

They are not starphuching anymore!

Theo made a couple of very key trades that really catapulted their team to both titles in '04 & '07 (they got Curt Schilling, Orlando Cabrera & Dave Roberts for their 1st championship run, & Beckett & Lowell last year)... he gave up a couple of very good young prospects to get the latter deal done, but it netted them a championship, so u can't complain about that... these are similar types of deals that the Yankees swung in the 90s when they went & got key guys like Paullie, Tino, Nellie, Lloyd, Brosius, Knoblauch & Justice which were key in building their dynasty during that run... the Yanks haven't made a smart trade of that nature in years because they've been too busy trying to make a huge splash w/bigname acquisitions like Mussina, Giambi, Unit & ARod... we need to get back to that type of building a team mentality where the parts actually fit & complement one another... ARod was a glamorous acquisition that put a lot of butts in the seats, but didn't net us anything when it's all said & done... i was 1 of his biggest fans while he was here but he really proved he was as fake as many people said he was w/the way he lied through his teeth all year long about his love of NY & being a NY Yankee & then not even listening to any offers for a contract extension.

They will consider it but the price will be steep. Obviously they will ask for Hughes or Joba in addition to a young position player like Cano and that just doesn't make sense right now.

A player that could make sense is Kevin Kouzmanoff from the Padres. Young player who's a breakout candidate with the bat. The Pads have a great young hitting 3b right behind him and could move him for the right pitching prospects. And believe it or not they have had a keen interest in acquiring Kei Igawa for a while now.

Anyway, while there will be a ton of talk, I highly doubt the Yanks will make a move for a high profile guy like Cabrera or Santana. They're probably more likely to patch things up with ARod.

Wang + a prospect for Santana
Kennedy, Melky + Betemit for Cabrera
sign Torii Hunter

that would be a plan of action for the Yankees that i can see w/the way the Yankees always try to go after the bignames.

as for Kei Igawa, if Cashman can swing a trade of him for any player of worth, he should be named GM of the Year

That wouldn't come close to getting it done for Cabrera.

As for Santana- I'd do it if it were Wang+Melky, but they're gonna start the bidding with Wang+Hughes or Wang+Cano.

Cabrera is there for 1 more year, isn't he? he's already making $11 mil per thru arbitration & it's not like Kennedy, Melky & Betemit is a garbage package for a 1 year rental.

It's not a garbage package, but I'm sure any other team entering the bidding will look to be giving him an extension. The Marlins still have good leverage here and no doubt will aim higher.
