Is an edgy Knicks team identity in the works or was it all just an act for Dolan?

Marv - if you look at the regular season games after the Denver scuffle, I don't remember many instances where the team mailed it in. Sometimes, it still just comes back to available talent. There were some important Knicks players missing in March.

I have a revolutionary idea. Let's cheer Nate's development.

earl, i'll cheer nate's game last night. i'll hardly cheer his "development."

against philly: 1-8 fg. 0-3 3's. 1 assist. 3 TO's

against boston: 0-4 fg. 0-3 3's. 0 assists. 1 TO.

against nj: 0-8 fg. 0-3 3's. 1 assist. 1 TO.

Here's the choice: You can either decide to be supportive of a young Knicks player, no matter how problemmatic he has been in the past. Or you can continue the convenient route of celebrating each and every flaw with the patented, "I told you he was crap" routine.

Earl, are you sure thats the choice? Surely you can grace us with some better insight than this "be supportive of a Knicks player, no matter how problemmatic he's been in the past" crap. You do realize that being a "Knick fan" doesn't necessitate you rabidly "supporting" every player, right?

Nate is an incredibly flawed role player. Can you show us evidence of his marked improvement? Atleast Marv gave us superficial stats. You gave us superficial and irrelevant conjecture.

Code - c'mon, where did I suggest rabidly supporting every player?

For a roster with a majority of young players (under 27), which Knicks players do you support with a sense of optimism for their development?

Im looking for the Knicks to play consistent all year! I mean look at all the consistencies. Isiah's coaching! Always knows what to do with his players, and the proper rotations to put them in. Hence his playoff success in Indiana.

Eddy Curry has always been consistent. Turnover prone, no defense, and no rebounds.
Zach Randolph. 20 and 10 in ever loss.
Stephon. Jamal Crawford. All proven to be winners in the past right? oh wait a minute. Whatever team they get traded from starts to become winners.

No. THIS IS the year it all turns around right. A merry band of bad news bears. After one pre-season victory they show signs of an identity. By playing hard against a team that blew them out by 40 on their home turf, in the pre-season. Yeah.

toodark - who is your favorite NBA team?

what quality makes that team your favorite?

This is a Knicks roster dominated by yoots.(under 27)

Why can't focus and determination, tempered by the media cauldron, gradually take shape and express itself in a new team identity?

how does the fact that it's "a game" make it any wiser to spout the same meaningless homilies over and over about this team?

sheesh

Marv - Let's be clear. I am NOT some self-appointed expert on Knicks basketball who feels the urge to prove my theories are more correct than someone else to satisfy some repressed urge of domination. The finger pointing, name-calling and "I told you so's" are only evidence that adolescents are in the room.

I thought this was about healthy and entertaining debate about the intricacies, unique angles and original observations that are missed by the casual fan. No a piss-fest.

All the knicks players are flawed. They have been well-documented. Why does that translate into some manifesto that they cannot be better than last season?

or even better than that?

I thought being supportive of my favorite team, win or lose (in the freakin' PRE season no less), was not a crime. When they make mistakes, I don't revel in them and I will NEVER cheer when they lose. EVER. No matter who is in charge.

I musta took a wrong turn someplace.

because imo any credible opinion on the knicks has to include factoring in that what they showed in boston and nj is horrifyingly demonstrative of the rotten underbelly of this team - a willingness - and tendency - to put out putrid disinterested unprofessional efforts and performances. which i have seen numerous, numerous - i repeat numerous times since isiah has put together this squad. including the worst basketball spectacle i ever witnessed in my life, in person at the garden, when the rookie chris paul conducted 3 straight backcourt steals and feeding of teammates for uncontested alley-oops dunks while the knick defenders stood there no move or effort to stop them. while the entire garden crowd sat stunned and silent, thinking, "omg could this really be happening?, is this team really so mindnumbingly bad?" the answer was yes. and after attending their practice last saturday ands seeing that they really do not practice or work at anything to address their deficiencies and get any better. they just do the same bad things over and over again.

so believe it or not, i am still a huge knick fan, i will be at many games this season , i will not stop cheering and hoping, but man, if you’re gonna put blinders on about how galling it is to watch this product out on the floor and have it represent what we want in knick basketball, then i'm gonna keep coming back with my bad reactions to what i see as the recurring, to an almost groundhog day-like degree at this point, failure of the isiah Thomas- ssembled knicks.

"Wahhh, I'm in such a rush to identify this collection of stiffs with anything successful, that I had the audacity to mention former Knick warriors and imply that this bunch could be like them. And then Isles had to call me out and make me look like an idiot...again."

Sheesh

Whatever

I dont want to tell Earl how to "hate" on you but I think he's missing an obvious angle of attack, which is clearly you are the type of revisionist history "fan" ( & i use that term very lightly) who probably booed Starks every time he touched the ball & wanted to know why Grunfeld was recruiting grocery baggers out of the CBA. If UK was around then I'm sure you would posted incessantly about Mason's evening activities at the China Club and wanted him put underneath the jail for soiling the sanctity of the Knickerbocker uniform. Lastly, were you really cheering oak's hustle or foaming at the mouth about his padding of his rebound stats after he missed lay-up after lay-up???

Oh how quickly we forget the old in our rush to condemn the new...Hip-Hop will never be Be-Bop just like Jazz will never be the Blues but it dont mean they all cant be funky.

Action - 'member how loudly The Garden "faithful" groaned each and every time Oak raised up for a jump shot?

You have hit on another valid point of view. Basketball is more like jazz than most will admit. Much of the improvisation, especially on offense, is a nightly work of progressions and responses to different stimuli. All that matters is that guys learn how to pick each other up when things go South. My sense is this squad is starting to care about things that we cannot predict.

Things like trust.

Confidence, sans the chest-bumping... or the post-game prayer circles.

No one can predict what kind of music will be played. No one knows what the 2007-08 season has in store. Too many unexpected turns, bends and dips in the road.
