Why is that not surprising?

I think because the Knicks aren't exactly lighting up their fanbase lately so the fans are more passive. Most international b-ball fans also act differently (i.e. more excitable...sounded like they were cheering any basket made as if it was really important), NYC has a high percentage of folks who identify as Jewish or with Israel so this is a chance to see a team like Maccabbi play. They may like the Knicks a bit too (being in NYC), so they might be more inclined to attend to see both (although more likely to root for Maccabbi). It's also a pre-season game against a team that if we lose would be considered an embarrassment nor does Maccabbi have players that attract casual interest, so do how hard are Knick fans dying to attend this game? Where as with Maccabbi their fans get a chance to see their team in person beat an NBA team and gain a sense of pride.

Then add on playa's comment about tickets not being given to season ticket holders and it makes even more sense.

The randolph curry experiment will fail. Randolph will either have to be a jump shooter when curry is in the game and that takes from his offensive rebounding. Neither one will guard anyone, and I just dont see enough shots for both of them
