okay Panos, you win.

do you have any suggestions on candidates to preside over MSG?

Nalod - Russell Simmons is an interesting nomination. Imagine his brother, Rev Run, managing the in-house entertainment chores.

"Who's house is it...?"

is Sugg Knight out of jail?

I think we should think of pres of basketball operations as its an easier focus.

I think we bring back Larry. The man is just about hoops and having players who are motivated and want to work on fundamentals. Larry is a winner, and I think Daffy and Buggs (jimmy and Isiah) drove him nuts as well as the assinine roster he had.

Russ Granik? Stu Jackson (the man has spent 15 years in the NBA office, he might have learned a few thing since he was here).

Im suprised no one mentioned Oak! Or Ewing? or Starks!

What experience do Oak, Ewing, or Starks have? No thanks.
As for Starks, I loved him, he was a player and a freakin' warrior, but dumb as rocks.

If, as the article hints, "unpolished" son Jim is replaced, who are the candidates Charles Dolan would consider to preside over the "World's Most Famous Arena"?

My top three nominations:

1. Bill Bradley - for his obvious Knicks roots and intellect

2. Kenneth Chenault - hired away from American Express

3. Bill Clinton - a reach to be certain, but an instant image makeover via a hip Harlem resident with mass appeal. The Cablevision empire is all about image and mass appeal

misterearl as much as I agree with you on most of the things on this board I gotta disagree about your list. I would be in favor of Bill Bradley and sure the other two would not have problems for a managerial poin of view. But President Clinton has bigger fish to fry. I don't see why a job look this would even be on his radar. Clinton is a career politician so why would he want to be cog in Cablevision with a corner office? For Chenault, Cablevisoon or American Express, the choice is easy.

You are indeed Jedi Marv - outstanding recommendation on Len Elmore. Now, that is forward thinking of the first order. Well done.

Back when he was a pro player, there was a curious confluence of friendship and between yours truly and one of his classmates at Maryland. Len needed a ride back to the hotel.

You should have seen him scrunching his 6-9 frame into the front seat of my Karmann Ghia.

It wasn't pretty but we had a good laugh.

if Jerry West is the choice to replace Dolan, then what about bringing in Magic Johnson to take Isiah's place? Steph played like a madman after he got that little motivational speech from him last year... who knows, it's so crazy it just might work. *cough*

a friendly reminder

Okay dudes, remember if James Dolan is removed by Daddy Dolan, the next person must run the entire show at MSG. Not just simply the Knicks.

Does Jerry West really want the added headache of the Rangers, Barnum and Bailey, Ice Capades or Jay-Z's next comeback concert?

There are four... hold up... five positions on the Budweiser Hot Seat

President & Chief Executive Officer, Cablevision Systems Corporation;
Chairman, Madison Square Garden and NBA Governor (James L. Dolan)

Vice Chairman, Cablevision Systems Corporation; Vice Chairman, Madison Square Garden and NBA Alternate Governor (Hank J. Ratner)

President & Chief Operating Officer, MSG Sports, and NBA Alternate Governor (Steve Mills)

President, Basketball Operations (Isiah Thomas)

Head Coach (Isiah Thomas)

Clean Sweep

arkrud - If your preference is to eliminate any vestige of Isiah Thomas, why not get rid of Lee, Balkman, Collins, Zach, Nate, Morris, Jordan, Jones, Nichols and The Mayor?

just wondering how far the housecleaning extends

This group except Zack is a side effect of IT job.
They are nobody in NBA and as soon as they are around we can check them out. Why not?
Don't be dramatic man. Isiah is just unfortunate page in NY Knicks history and after he will go he will be soon forgotten like bad dream.
I don't care about him even a bit.
If somebody so obsessed with his dramatic personality he can follow his idol to next destination... Love is blind…

Isiah's place as coach or pres?

i doubt Magic would do it unless he could be both... ideally i wouldn't mind doing this:

Jerry Colangelo - replace Dolan
Jerry West - replace steve Mills as MSG pres & CEO
Magic - replace Isiah as team pres, GM & coach

the egos involved here probably would make that scenario impossible though... & if not impossible, then certainly untenable... the main point is tho, that we need to bring in well RESPECTED BASKETBALL MINDS with 1 common goal & focus, which is to win a CHAMPIONSHIP to NY... no more Larry Brown vs. Marbury scenarios... Isiah & Marbury need to be broken up... & most importantly, no more "duh um" heads of this franchise

It's flat out bad Karma, that is, if the guilty verdict is justifiable. This team needs a new everything at this point. New behind the scenes minds. New basketball minds. New media handling minds. I think arkrud was 100% right. Sometimes, a blank sheet of paper is better to start off on, than something full.

Although anyone with the word Colangelo in the name sounds great too!

arkrud - by dialing down to personal bias and the minutia of player transaction you are totally missing the subject of this important discussion.

Now that I've got that bit of houseclaeaning out of the way, here... with no further delay (modest drum roll) or fanfare - is my 20008 Blueprint for Excellence (aka The Answer Man's Jive Five) for Charles Dolan to consider as replacements:

President & CEO, Cablevision; Chairman, MSG and NBA Governor
Ken Chenault - make him an offer he cannot refuse

Vice Chairman, Cablevision; Vice Chairman, MSG and NBA Alternate Governor
Hank J. Ratner - he can stay if he cooperates 100% with the transition

President & COOr, MSG Sports, and NBA Alternate Governor
Len Elmore with the assist from Marv

President, Basketball Operations
Jerry West - I drove past his crib in Memphis and all I could say was, "damn!"

Head Coach - Mark Jackson - I just like his temperment, presence and NYC roots

who's in your five?

Magic - replace Isiah as team pres, GM & coach

I don't trust Magic. I mean, he's not bad, but seriously, what has HE done? Wasn't it Jerry West who did all this stuff for the Lakers in the past and wasn't it Buss that brought in Bynum? No thanks to Magic, plus he shouldn't have to be able to handle coach and pres/gm. We need to qualified and separate people for that.

I don't know HOW MUCH I can trust Magic anyway. He's a big name, but will he bring the big game he had as a player? I don't know about that.
