There is one poster suspiciously absent from this discussion.

nixluva, what do you have to say about this? In particular, the following quote:
"Fred Jones has looked really good and we want the best players," said Thomas, who drafted Jones for the Pacers in 2002. "We're not necessarily looking two or three years down the road."
I almost didn't even read this thread. Don't assume that if I don't comment on a thread it's out of fear of addressing some issue. I don't read every thread.

I think Isiah feels he's close. He's reported to have said he thinks he's very close to where he wants this team to be. Maybe one more good player away. Who know exactly how he sees the team. If he feels Nichols is too far away to commit to at this time, then that's how he feels. I personally want to keep Nichols. I feel we lack deadeye shooting and I like his size and length too. I feel that if a Jason Kapono can make it, then why not Nichols, who I think has more to his game.

The thing is that when you have other concerns, not purely BB related, but financial, you tend to make bad calls. I don't like that we will keep Malik and Jerome around when they really aren't part of the future here. If it was up to me, i'd buyout both of them and insure that I could keep the young talent and see what they develop into.
Your posting needs to start reflecting you have no idea what I SAY UGH is thinking. You have commented on more than several occasions I SAY UGH is building towards a 5-7yr plan, which implies stockpiling young talent that will compete yr after yr for that stretch of time. Face it one who HOMERS this team can't feel a real pulse on this team because I SAY UGH'S move don't make sense. HATERS have been saying for aeons I SAY UGH is running this team without a clear plan and one that has changed courses numerous times since he's arrived.

Jones will probably make the team because he was one of I SAY UGH'S favorites during his time with the Pacers,

Jeffries was given a full MLE deal when no one else would touch him with a ten ft pole because of he and I SAY UGH'S pedigree at Indiana University,

Jerome James was starting games ahead of David Lee because I SAY UGH was thinking about 6th man awards,

Marbury is still here because he's been officially adopted by I SAY UGH,

Houston will be signed because Dolan hasn't got over his mancrush for him,

Randolph Morris was signed because I SAY UGH refuses to get in Curry's grill to play defense.

There's no rhyme or reason with the FRAUD coach/gm/president we have.
I just got back home and of course I would expect that you'd have some kind of crap to say. F U TrueBlue! Don't freakin tell me what my thoughts are. If you have a team that has most of it's key players 25 and under then you ARE TALKING ABOUT A 5 yr PLAN. I never said he's building "towards" a 5yr plan as if he hadn't yet started. We're already in yr 3 of what i've described over and over again as Isiah's process of retooling with youth. So now you're gonna try to make it sound like I don't know what i'm talking about cuz of one statement. You're the one who needs to learn something about building a team. I'm getting tired of you trying to make me sound like a fool. I'm not an idiot so stop talking about me like I am.

For one thing you don't just perpetually add youth for no reason. Once you get to a certain point with your roster, there's no benefit to adding more and more young players. It's more important that you get guys who fit your needs and i'm not talking about our perceived needs for the team, but Isiah's. He's the one that has a vision for what players he thinks he needs to make this work. We can disagree with him, but he's gonna do what he feels is right. So if it just so happens that the player who fits your needs is a young kid fresh out of college then so be it. However, if there's a guy that can fill a need you have, but he's a young vet, then you get him. I don't like the idea of H2O, but i'm not convinced that it's his idea to bring him in. If he let's Nichols go, I won't be happy, but that's not a sign that he's somehow changed direction again or that he doesn't know what he's doing. It's judgement call based on how he sees the pieces fitting and only he knows what he's looking to do this year.

You're not at Knicks practice so you don't know what he's seeing and how that could effect the choices he makes. Until he's actually DONE SOMETHING, can we hold off on judging him based on RUMORS. DAMN!!! I'm so tired of you and your crap. Get freakin life.

Why do we perpetually add guards and small forwards on this team?

You have no idea what his plan is and why he makes the decision he makes, that was my main point. No one really does. You can't say "if Houston makes the team then it must mean I SAY UGH feels we're closer," you have no idea. It could mean Dolan told him to get Houston, it could mean I SAY UGH respects vets more than young talent, he wants to give Houston one last chance to prove himself, he doesn't want another Eastern Conference team to sign him.... etc etc.
I can't possibly know everything he's thinking and I don't claim to know everything. That's your interpretation of my statements. I can see trends in his moves and from the fact that the current roster is full of young talent, it's not hard to tell that he was rebuilding with youth and not with older vets. No matter what he decides regarding H2O, it's not gonna change the fact that the bulk of this team is centered around a younger core. One or 2 older vets isn't gonna change that ratio. The H2O thing still hasn't happened yet, so it's hypothetical at this point. I'm not gonna bash him for things he hasn't done yet. There's nothing wrong with bringing him in for a look.

I personally want to keep Nichols, no matter what he does with H2O, cuz he could possibly be a part of the future. Since i'm not at practice I can't say for sure, but I got the impression that Nichols shooting could benefit this team. I think his being younger and more mobile fits us better than H2O, who's old and stiff. Isiah may feel that he gets more of what he's looking for right now with Jones. Again, I don't know how he's looking in practice compared to Nichols. If Isiah sticks with Jones I can't say that he's wrong just yet. Maybe Nichols not fully being ready to defend on the NBA level is an important factor for Isiah. Surely that's understandable. If Jones gives Isiah what he wants, he can always extend him. This team would seem to have a nice 5 year window, so in essence it's important that the team start winning NOW. Isiah's not the only GM who feels he has enough youth and wants to start winning. Totally young teams don't win big. You've got to have a decent balance. Isiah knows this, so I can understand his thinking if he decides to go that way.

It sounds like Isaiah's mindset is the keep Jones and cut Nichols. That sounds like a bad choice.

I'm gonna be so pissed if Nichols is not on the roster and Jerome, Jared, Fred, or Malik is.

agree w/u... i'm all in favor of giving H20 a shot, but we must hold onto Nichols as well in case Houston's knees give out again... Jerome & Jefferies are complete scrubs & Isiah holding onto either of them just to justify his pathetically moronic decision to sign them in the first place should be the only thing you guys should be getting upset about here... signing Houston on a LLE contract is a very good value-low risk signing.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

It is interesting how Nichols did so well in the summer leagues and was being touted as a steal and a guy who could help us this year. Now he may not make the team. I think it is because he crossed Isiah when he said he wouldn't go to Europe. He will go some place and be the next Kyle Korver. I am sure Thomas is extremely angry about the trial and he needs to show someone that he can't be messed with. Too bad for the Knicks and Nichols.

I think Isaiah is upset with Nichols because he didn't follow his plan to go to Europe for a year. He needs to get over it.
