The knicks in the 90's were build to go to the semi's which proved to be a huge profit for MSG. THey were not built to go-all-the-way.
the addition of charles smith SHOULD have put us in that category. but he was never the player in the eastern conference that he was in the west.
I agree. Also the Knicks were at times in my mind even better than the Bulls. We had some horrible moments that would eventually lead to us losing to them. We got burned by fights, in particular the one with the Heat that resulted in all the suspensions. We were as close as you can get to winning a title against Houston. I think some of that blame goes to Riley. He didn't make the best decisions in those playoffs IMO. The competition was tough in the East back then. The league even changed the rules in order to pevent teams like us from succeeding as we had. They wanted more scoring and less D. Later in the 90's when the East fell apart we were also a shell of the team we once were, but that's how things go.
That's history. Right now this team isn't great, but it's getting better. I think we've got a chance to do some good things from here on out. Teams have better top tier talent, but few have as much depth of talent. I think he timing is right too. As i've said before this team's younger players have gained more experience and I think that will allow them to have a bigger impact from day one. The team should have more chemistry from day one as well. Being together in the same system has to have some positive effect for a team with so much talent. Over the last 3 years there's been nothing but change. New coaches and systems. New players and roster inbalance. I think this year we will see more stability and that's gonna make a big difference.
