Bippity - you are correct.

What happens in New York stays in New York

No this is not true. What happens in NY does not stay in NY if people care about it. For instance the Yankees are talked about constantly in both Boston and Seattle papers. The Jets and KNicks are not, because people don't care.

When the Knicks start winning and become relevant as well then they will be talked about everywhere.

Allanfan - I don't know if Marbury is on the phone calling for coverage. A feel-good story of a player doing something for kids being looked at as some type of personal campaign says more about the viewer. I don't get a sense the needy kids complained one bit about the attention.

Stand by his side and call him a great guy?

Nah.

No animals were harmed in the making of Starbury's

... and somewhere a child smiled.

That's good enough for me. I could care less what the national media, or someone in the midwest, thinks of his deeds... or his assist to turnover ratio for that matter.

Misterearl you are missing the point. All the world knows of Marbury is that he is selling inexpensive Sneakers. 90% of the people on this planet appreciate it. 90% of the media has painted it in a good light. But because 10 or so people on this site bash him and a couple NYcentric reporters write about his every move you are somehow under the impression that he is getting some kind of unfair shake.

I'm living in Boston. A city that hates NY. A city that has every reason to rip on the Knicks year round. Yet when the papers have written anything about he guy they mention the positivity of his shoes. No one talks about the things that he has said over the summer. That only matters to Knick fans. Nobody cares if he is a leader or not. That only matters to Knick fans. No one cares what kind of teammate he is or perceived to be, that only matters to Knick fans. How much time have you spent wondering what Dwayne Wade has done with his summer or how he is perceived? I'm going to say 5 minutes max. That's how much thought the rest of america has given to Stephon outside of his shoes.

Your perception is being steered by the comments of people on this site(that are Knick fans) and not reality.

Reality

bippity - it is all now perfectly crystal clear. I lived in Boston for 2 years. My perception was altered the afternoon I witnessed an innocent bystander, Attorney Ted Landsmark, being stabbed with the point of an Americanb flag on City Hall Plaza after an angry mob left an anti-busing rally.

Not to be confused with the evenings I ran into Don Chaney buying groceries at the Star Market at Copley Square or riding the T with Dave Cowens.

Just keepin' it real.

Marbury has been a victim of the media since day 1. Its like its impossible for this guy to get a break. He's been charitable, involved in the community, maybe sexually harassed only 1 woman, put up mostly 20 and 8, became a better man under LB, saved a few tourists from the clam bar at Gosman's dock and set the precedent for judicial review. Whats not to like? So he looks pissed all the time. And maybe, you know, he says some weird stuff every once in a while. After all he's done for us, I think we should forgive him. I mean, if he didn't get the type of malicious hate he gets day after day, he'd be the same lovable fart we saw in Minny and NJ. And the Olympics. And he'd want to see spit in your mouth only part of the time.

Sh-t in the popcorn to go with sh-t on the court. Its a theme show like Medieval times.

bippity - what about the Mets?

What about the Mets? Very few care about them either. They are the Yankees stepchild. Irrelevant.

The only reason why people care about the Yankees is because of teh perception that they ALWAYS WIN. The Yankees are considered to be one of the most successful franchises in sports history AND they come from NY. That's why people care. People in the South and West and Midwest don't care about NY also rans no matter how much you think they do. You live in a box. A box where everyone cares about the Knicks. A box in which a team can go 8 seasons without winning and you still think they are being followed country wide. The reporters that you follow and the friends you talk to, care about the Knicks. At this moment, noone else does. I can do nothing to get you out of this narrow box you live in.

The Boston Globe wrote a 1 sentence blurb about the trial today. It was buried in the notes section after a 6 sentence blurb about the arrest of Indiana's Shawne Williams who was arrested for Marijuana possession. I'll keep searching the other papers. It's possible they gave it more coverage.

My guess is PTI will give it a minute and a half coverage, ATH may give it the same. Sportcenter will give it 3 or so minutes and the NYcentric writers we all follow will write articles about it. At that point we will be told that the rest of the country cares about the Knicks.

Then again bippity, that New England cheater Bill Belichick made the back pages of the NYC tabloids with a spiffy Snoop Dog headline.

What does this have to do with anything? You are such a passive-aggressive rarely saying what's on your mind. Always speaking in code and innuendo. Oh and I almost forgot riddles too.

^Uh hello, the Patriots won 3 Super Bowls recently. That certainly is something that would concern football fans across the country. People care about good teams. Not bad teams, and not teams that are sometimes good and sometimes bad. The Yankees are consistently GREAT, so people wanna see them do great, and others wanna see them fail, so they follow close attention. The Patriots won 3 superbowls the past decade, so the same goes for them, just as it is for the Russian Hockey team, and all that.

bippity - don't sweat the technique. What you consider "code and innuendo" may simply be creative writing which requires a mere moment to ponder the distillation of random thoughts that take into account the broader implications of the news beyond one specific realm. My reality may not mesh with your reality but that does not mean I'm not making a serious attempt to keep it real. Really.

Marv - "why I oughta..."

hold up, does the Anucha-Gate trial mean that Dolan is secretly interviewing potential candidates to replace Isiah during his California Wine Country Concert (cough) Tour?

1. Mark Jackson

2. Phil Jackson - who brings Kobe with him

3. Cazzie Russell

Got it. Now I remember why I took Geology "rocks for jocks" instead of creative writing. At least the jocks understood that if you are communicating at a higher level than everyone else than you aren't really communicating.

Bump it, Let's Get Deep

Marv, please forgive the bootleg, but I felt compelled to acknowledge your absolutely brilliant piece of anaysis from another thread:

"yeah but why shouldn’t there be (two Isiahs.)? the neighborhoods this guy survived growing up in are supposed to have been legendarily brutal. he was allowed by gangs to live because of his basketball talents. think of the ways that can impact a person throughout life, not to mention when crossing through to the stratosphere of multi-multi-million dollar corporate control positions in the brightest of public limelights."

Marv - This duality you mention, whether it is portrayed as a "two-faced lie" or simply the time-honored tradition of African Americans (or any culture) adapting to hostile environments by any means available... and at the same time maintaining their allegiance to their community (however "ghetto-unfabulous" it may be) ... (ie Coney Island)

...just begins to scratch the surface of creative survival techniques that made this country what it is.

(please bippity, with all due respect, please read this next part slowly an allow it to marinate a minute)

Could the ruthless and derrogatory Isiah Thomas, at his absolute worst (or best - whatever suits your perspective), really be so different, in TONE and intent, from Michael Corleone or Tony Soprano?

and those guys get great ratings.

Not everything ugly is fascinating.
That’s why Isiah is different from this 2.
