Mister Earl...I LOVE YOU RIGHT NOW...never thought I would say that, but sometimes in the very darkest of times, though Los Mets tenuously hold on to #1, your optimism makes me feel better. The difference is that the Mets are contenders and should have high expectations whereas with Los Knicks, they haven't done smack. As you would say Earl, "it is sometimes darkest before the dawn." And that dawn best be in Atlanta.

The Knicks are like a bad boyfriend that treats you like crap but you keep coming back for more. The Mets are like "the one" that isnt perfect but for the most part is AMAZIN' but when he f's up, it hurts so much worse. Right now, I am heartbroken by Los Mets. My love for the Mets remains strong but we are having some problems in our relationship.

I am a DIE HARD Mets fan and the Philly series I just endured made me more crazy than I get during the Knicks entire season. The game today was EPIC, but did not have a good outcome on the NY-side of the score card. I like Willie and all but he is part of the problem too.

1. REYES- my favorite...must find a way to get on base and be the straw that stirs the drink. They say he's exhausted and needs a recharge but then again so does the entire team. Reyes is the KEY to this team's offense.

2. DELGADO- get off my team

3. GREEN- fellow Jew but Shabbat Shalom Shawn

4. LO DUCA- "I miss Ramon Castro." DeFelice and Alomar are better at this point. Pauley Walnuts sucks of late

5. MAINE - see the Joba rules...never pitched a full season and we are seeing why you are still very young

6. ALOU - where have you been?

7. BELTRAN - needs to be perfect

8. WRIGHT- the only consistent player on this team

9. WILLIE: Please pick up the courtesy phone...BILLY WAGNER HAS NOT PITCHED 6 OUTS SINCE 1999 SO WHY WOULD YOU PUT HIM IN THAT POSITION TODAY? AND STOP PITCHING MOTA ALREADY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!

10. ENDY: Good to have you back

11. LASTINGS: stop hacking at everything already

12. CASTILLO: we need you out there every day b/c Gotay's fielding is rather unrefined

13. BULLPEN: You are absolutely KILLING me

misterearl, i love your optimism. i really do. but it does NOT look good. we lost 5 in a row adn about to enter a weekend series with atlanta taking on the heart of the lineup, smotlz and hudson, two pitchers that we are not good against. we could get swept rigth out of the playoffs. you are right, it is a game. however, i live in the philly area. they haven't said peep all season and knew i was a met's fan. now the past couple of days i here about the mets going down and stuff like that. if you don't know, philadelphia fans are the WORST. and they will let you know it. that is why they had a full blown fight at the stadium today. so imagine being in this area and hearing the badgering of ignorant fans all the time. so yeah i like to vent and am pissed. oh, teah i did compare minaya with phillips. i may be wrong but wasn't phillips the gm when the mets made it to the world series in 2000?

jazz74 - you gotta love the Mets. Like any baseball team in any maddening season they will make you feel great and break your heart all at the same time, sometimes within nine innings.

I'm withchoo - can anybody get Pat Burrell (or Chipper Jones) out?

an alternate take

1. REYES - how can he not be worn down the way he plays? Insert Anderson Hernandez for a breather.

2. CASTILLO - steady professional. Glad Omar stole him.

3. BELTRAN - showing signs of a stretch run

4. WRIGHT- maybe its time for everyone to shave their domes again

5. DELGADO - still has some clutch hits in him, keep him... but monitor his health

6. ALOU - key player who is rested and fresh, can he stay healthy in septemeber?

7. GREEN- Milledge platoons with him in right

8. LO DUCA- Alomar is history. "I miss Ramon Castro." DeFelice can't throw anyone out unless the pitchers do a better job of holding runners. Wagner ignoring runner at second was tragic mistake. Which brings me to the maddening Wagner who is taking on the personality of (heaven forbid) another closer who used to dig his own holes.

9. starters - Perez is the key

10 relievers - Sosa has an opportunity to play a key role, I'd consider him an alternate closer. Sele, Mota and Schoenweis scare the heck outta me. Feliciano lights my fire. Where is Joe Smith when you need him?

11. bench - Gotay is solid and the dude from Cincy still has some pop. need a third clutch hitter for september to be fun.

12. WILLIE: Please pick up the courtesy phone and inset Pedro and Pelfrey into the rotation

C'mon, if you can go as far back as 40-120, this is a piece of cake.

The Answer Man would NEVER stoop so low to register an "I told you so" response but...

jazz74 - "misterearl, i love your optimism. i really do. but it does NOT look good. we lost 5 in a row and about to enter a weekend series with atlanta taking on the heart of the lineup, smotlz and hudson, two pitchers that we are not good against. we could get swept rigth out of the playoffs."

A. jazz. are you diggin' the comeback effort by Pedro or what?

He may act like a court jester on the days he doesn't start but make no mistake about it, an 11 month comeback from rotator cuff surgery is borderline "ain't dat sum ish?" material.

jazz74 - if you don't know, philadelphia fans are the WORST. and they will let you know it. that is why they had a full blown fight at the stadium today.

A. just think jazz, the Phillies just lost to the Braves so Philly should have quieted down just a bit for the moment. Keep the faith dude.

jazz74 - i may be wrong but wasn't phillips the gm when the mets made it to the world series in 2000?

A. Steve Philips is enjoying life on ESPN while Omar is enjoying life leading the rebirth of a franchise on solid ground and a future so bright he gotta wear shades.
