Frye = Doleac

Doleac was a very solid player for us and a very nice BU to have. But that's it. Channing Frye most definitely is not going to Portland to challenge LA or Oden for minutes.

did doleac ever have a string of 20 point games, and even some in the 30's, like channing had in his rookie year? there's a potential nba starter infrye if somone can help him figure it out.

Good riddance.

Sour grapes. He deserves better than 'good riddance'. Honestly. Vin Baker deserved 'good riddance'. Francis deserved'good riddance'. Not Frye. Show some respect for the young player who started his career in NY and had the presence of mind to say thank you.

Frye even showed some talent last season, on some isolated cases, but overall, he just completely dissapeared. No NBA player is gonna be successful with the Keith Van Horn syndrone.

I think, however, that Channing is one of those players that needs to be nurtured, and needs "The right" system, so he can be brought up properly. Now, the problem with this is, what if they get brought up in that right system, but then move to a different system. How do they react?

Just ask Keith Van Horn, and ask Channing, the instant the offense started to be built around Eddie Curry.

Crappy comparison. Keith Van Horn was actually a pretty good player. There's no comparison.

Yeah, agree, bad comparison with KVH. Van Horn was much more mobile, had a handle, got to the rim when he wanted and had a nice perimeter game to boot. And he was an above average and very effective rebounder. In fact KVH was always a much better player than Tim Thomas and it's a shame Steph probably ran him outta town behind the scenes with that trade. But moving on....

I knew we were in trouble with Frye last year after the first summer league game when he GOT ABSOLUTELY DISTROYED by Amare Stoudamire, who was coming off a major injury himself and playing only at around 50%, if that. Amare killed Frye that game. You guys remember that. All we heard was how Frye was bigger, stronger, put on more muscle... That may have been true, but how Amare Stoudamire toyed with him, esp. not playing anywhere near full strength, really spoke volumes to me.

I do think the message Frye put out there was really cool though, and I wish him a lot of luck out there with the Blazers. Bottom line is that I really liked the pick when we got him - but I thought we were getting a much more complete NBA big man than what we got - and I watched this kid in college many times. We basically got Steve Kerr or Dana Barros in a 6'11" body and that's not what we needed. We needed a legit 6'11" guy who was gonna play BIG across the board. Score, rebound, block shots, the whole nine. I'll go along with the 'hard to blame it all on him' angle, but only to a certain extent. Yes he could've been used a little differently (big believer that he never should've been playing next to Curry for long stretches even though you would think that his perimeter game should've complimented Curry's inside game perfectly - that was an experiment that went on far too long - after the first 10 or so games it was obvious to all that it had to be Curry/Lee or Frye/Lee), but even that's not all together true. Isiah gave him opportunities, especially early in games. How many games did Frye go for like 10 & 5 in the first quarter then completely coast after that, not assert himself and mysteriously dissappear, and finish those games with 12 & 6, shoot 5-17 from the field (15 of those 20 footers) with 5 fouls in 35+ minutes? The answer is too many. Still, he should've been able to provide help defense and rebounding even if the shot wasn't falling, but sadly he never did, and that's not on Isiah, that's on Channing. But, again, a good kid with a lot of character in a league full of idiots. Best of luck to a class act.

Great points. That's just how it was Frye. He gets a few jumpers, then he coasts. And he was only doing one thing, as you said. Just frustrating to watch when we'd lose by 3 points and you could reasonably think we might be up by 3 if Frye wasn't playing. Hopefully he'll have better luck in Portland. He just wasn't a fit in NY.

As for Van Horn, totally agree. He brought a lot of good things to the table. Skills that even our current team could use, yet Steph ran him out of town. Oh well, it is what it is, I guess.

Can anyone honestly say I SAY UGH tried to develop Frye?

No he didn't and when this happens you have a player that offers less than his potential.
