that's fine... let's keep it to the present... this season your team owns a W-L record that's 1.5 games better than the Yankees playing in an inferior league... so tell me how your team is so much more superior to ours again? o right, it's because of all that "homegrown youth" on your team. other than Reyes & Wright, the rest of your homegrown talent isn't much to write home about, unless you happen to think Lastings Milledge is the second coming of Ken Griffey Jr. like some Met fans seem to like to hype him up to be... Carlos Gomez? we'll see how good he turns out... right now Melky's #'s are better than his... John Maine? cool, we got Chien Ming Wang... Aaron Heilman? no comment necessary... he's an average reliever at best... put him in the AL East & his ERA would jump up to over 4... Ruben Gotay? ok, cool... we got Robinson Cano... did i miss anyone?

i'm not even saying your team is crap either... you have some good young talent on your team... i'm just sick of listening to Met fans bash the Yankees & their prospects for future success as if they don't even compare... it's that old inferiority complex rearing its ugly head like it does every year that forces Met fans to constantly downgrade their crosstown rivals because they get all the coverage in this town as they should... win a few more rings & you guys will get the media attention you deserve too... until then, all i can say is you're just going to have to deal with the fact that the Yankees are NY's team... like i said before, win a few rings before you talk all that smack broham.

btw, you're nuts if you think there's another closer in baseball that's better than Mo in a big game... i don't want to hear Jonathan Papelbon, Billy Wagner, Joe Nathan, Eric Gagne or whoever else's name you want to compare... until they show it in the postseason, it's all just unfulfilled hype.

Mets fans are the worst fans in sports. Only team in all of sports who has the majority of fans more focused on another team (the Yankees) than their own.

Even the Mets fans radio announcers can't stop talking about the Yankees, whether the Yanks are winning or losing. Meanwhile the Mets were playing great, and all the focus on the Yankees.

I think Mets fans are insane. Possibly even more so than Boston fans.

It's exciting to me on a small level because the Cubbies have a real shot to win their division. Considering they've won without Woods and Prior for the season, the Grant Hill pitchers of baseball, I'm liking their chances as each day goes by.

i think Boston fans are more nasty in their hate, but i guess i can't blame them after all those years of frustration & bitterness & the fact that they actually have a rivalry that effects their standings... many Met fans seem to find more enjoyment in seeing the Yankees fail than they do seeing their own team succeed, even though the Yankees winning does nothing to effect their own standing in the league... that to me is comical (i'm not necessarily referring to jaydh here, but you know it's true if you listen to just about any sports talk radio or TV show in this city)

Just to nitpick with you TMS, since I am a huge Yankee fan.. I don't think we have the best catcher in baseball, although I do think Jorge is Top5. Just off the top of my head, Mauer, Russ Martin and Brian McCann are better then Jorge(in both hitting and defensively) I think I would put Jorge (4th) next and then probably have Pudge or Benjie Molina round out the Top5.

Mauer is right up there w/Jorge, i'll give you that, but is he measurably better? i'm not so sure... Russ Martin & Brian McCann? no way dude... not yet anyway... maybe in a few years when they hit their primes, but right now Jorge is just about the best in the game at his position... the guy gets better every year & he's turning 36 this year... it's sick.

i'd say Victor Martinez of the tribe is the only guy who can be argued to be better in terms of talent & ability to Jorge right now, but until he can show it over a longer period of time, i'm sticking w/our guy.

I dunno man.. have you seen Russ Martins line this year? 11hr/66rbi/55runs/17SBs/.300avg plus I'd say hes arguably the best catcher defensively in the game.

I'd love to get that Saltalamacchia kid from the Braves since they are shopping him. He can be the heir-apparent to Jorge.

where did u hear they were shopping him? i've only been reading that they're not willing to deal him... they're trying to convert him to 1B, no? i wanted him during the offseason, but he's their top positional prospect... we won't get him unless we give them back some top young talent in return.

Jorge's putting up .334 BA / 10 HR / 56 RBI / 51 runs / .416 OBP / .517 SLG w/28 doubles in the AL... those are elite #'s right there for a C... Martin's a great young player, but i don't think he's better than Jorge just yet... in a few years maybe, but right now overall i think Jorge tops him... Jorge's no slouch either behind the plate & handling a pitching staff... in fact his fielding % of .992 this season as a C is slightly better than Martin's .988.

He's out there man, the whole 1b thing is just to get his bat in the lineup while they have him. Heres the article.

25th July, 2007 - 11:28 am
Atlanta Journal-Constitution - Jarrod Saltalamacchia is a name frequently mentioned in trade rumors.

"I try not to pay attention," the Braves rookie catcher said Tuesday afternoon at AT&T Park. "My biggest thing right now, like everybody in here, is just to try to help us win games and try not worry about it."

"It" being the possibility that he could be traded before the July 31 non-waiver deadline. Saltalamacchia was the Braves' top-rated prospect before the season and has further elevated his stock with a strong performance in his first stint in the majors.

The 22-year-old switch-hitter batted .285 with six doubles, four homers and 12 RBIs in 137 at-bats before Tuesday's game, with 14 multihit games in 34 games in which he had at least two at-bats.

The Braves could land a top starter or a package of pitchers for Saltalamacchia.

They've also talked to the Rangers about first baseman Mark Teixeira, a slugger and Gold Glover who could earn more than $10 million in arbitration next season and then become a free agent.

unless we give up Hughes or Chamberlain, i don't think we got a realistic shot... Kennedy's not going to do it IMO unless we throw in a Tabata, & i'm not willing to do that.

If they get another 2-3 years out of Jorge they have some good prospects coming up in a few years.

I think the Yanks should stand pat at the deadline, or just get a platoon 1b like Klesko.

I totally agree Sm00th. I honestly think he's the best catcher in the bigs.

i agree... i'd stand pat unless we can get a Mark Texeira w/o having to give up Hughes or Chamberlain... i don't think Klesko's an option now that Andy Phillips is doing such a solid job in the field & at the plate... plus, i don't think they're interested in him anyway... if they target a stopgap for the rest of this season, the name that's being talked about is Dan Johnson from the A's, but unless we can get him on the cheap, i don't think he's that much of an upgrade to be worth the hassle... Ty Wigginton is the other name that's being talked about but Tampa's GM is notoriously stingy & asks for the moon in any trade... i don't think the Yankees will be willing to give up much more than Scott Proctor straight up for him, & i don't see Tampa making that deal.

nyk, looks like ATL may trade Salty to TEX in a Mark Texieria package

http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/mlb/news/trade_deadline/index_07.jsp
Mark Teixeira
Mark Teixeira, who averaged 35 homers and 113 RBIs in his first four seasons in the big leagues, has drawn plenty of attention from clubs on the hunt for a slugging first baseman. With the Yankees among the suitors finding the price too high, the Braves have reportedly come on strong. Atlanta would likely center a package around rookie catcher/first baseman Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

Yeah TMS, every now and then you hear a little about him.

Lets just hope he turns out better than Dioner Navaro.. he was supposed to be a stud.

Man that sucks, he's being traded for Teixiera too. Salty is going to be a stud and trust me when Jorge leaves we are going to be stuck because its very hard to find a catcher that gives the production and leadership like Jorge has given us. When you look around the league there is only about 7 really good hitting catchers, its a tough thing to find.

Edit: I'm not directing this post at you TMS like you dont want Salty. I'm just saying in general.
