lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

I dont know who that comment is directed to Kam, but I'll make a brief point, Stern thought enough of Donaghy to have a private investigator follow him over a year ago. Still let him ref. SMH.

In a general sense, Stern should have been far more proactive when it came to gambling and referees who are potentially susceptible given their influence on the game, and the money they earn in relation to the players...His concern shouldnt have been making A.I look like an investment banker.

If stern knew what was going on just like the mob, he had to provide a fall guy and Donaghy had the most baggage maybe.

Stern has nothing to gain from any of this. You guys confuse facts too easily and thats lazy. YES, he hired a PI to tail Donaghy. That doesn't automatically mean he KNEW Donaghy was fixing games. Why are you making this assumptive leap?

I'm not sure where you guys are getting your standards of "commisioning" from. All I know is commish is always gonna be the most unpopular guy around, but in the context of other commisioner's and by looking at the bottom line, saying Stern hasn't done a good job is just not making sense.

Kam when the multiple names on fixing come out, then you will know why Stern looked like this.

Even the hint that Donaghy was mixed in gambling there should have been an immediate suspension if not firing. That fact alone shows how Stern totally mishandled this situation. At least if Stern have fired him when he first became aware of the gambling problem he could say he acted quickly as soon as he became aware but as it stands now it seems more like Stern was trying to cover up Donaghy's wrong doing.
Also if that had been a player do you think he would have waited a year before taking actions?

Donaghy can very well be only the top of the iceberg and other referees and NBA officials can be involved as well.
I will not be surprised if this will go all the way to the top. Any time organization start polishing the face with dress codes and alike actions it makes me think it is spoiled inside.

Damn, I hope I dont sound this crazy whenever I defend Isiah...you either have an ulterior motive, or you're certifiable.

I never said that he "knew", just that when he caught wind of Donaghy's actions, his response should not have been: "huh, no biggie, we'll just have Magnum P.I follow him and sift through some of his mail...NOW ABOUT THAT DRESS CODE!!!!!!"

How could Stern give us a dog and pony show over a dress code, but not do anything about this until the F.B.I came a knockin'?

He continued to allow Donaghy to ref, resulting in a game 3 Suns/Spurs playoff match that looks like an episode of Monday Night Raw. Other than our current administration, I dont think I have ever seen such an egregious act of incompetence on such an elevated level, with the stakes so high. Thats why there are so many conspiracy theories floating around...Stern may be a lot of things, but was he really THAT STUPID?

His Fairies were just too precious and infallible in his eyes. He sold out to them. I agree with what you're saying here.

When the Casual Fan is able to discern certain things just aren't jiving in this league and you're sitting around twitting your thumbs with your nose stuck up in the air at such concerns, while going Harrison Ford "CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER" on leaving the bench, no talking back to refs, no talking to the media about the refs, and going Wright Brothers on us finding new balls to use in the league instead of handling your CROOKED ZEBRAS you deserve ultimate humiliation and need to step down to preserve the credibility you don't have and never did in the first place.

Longest run-on sentence ever.

When teams aren't allowed to speak in reguard to refering then you know something is going on that is bigger. Sterns has protected the refs way to much. That is when refs feel that the are invulnerable and start to take advantage of the situation. Criticisim is part of the checks and balance system and when you aren't allowed to do it then you have to think that the refs are carring out special orders from the top. This thing is bigger than the Donaghy betting scandal. Sterns is and was part of a bigger scandle and it has a lot to do with who wins and who doesn't.
