That's brilliant! A reality show staring Marbury. That's a sure winner, and I'm sure Marbury would go for it. Know anyone in the TV biz?

Planning for the future is great but how much money does one guy need? Thats always my question for unhappy athletes. He already has made around 115 mill with another 42 mill coming in the next 2 years.
If you can make millions regardless of where you play you should factor in where you will be happy.

"Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs"..."Loco:...

Ok, someone is going to have to explain that to me.

Sounds like Stephon is essentially announcing he is going to retire after his contract ends, and will be spending that time working on his business ventures and playing a little b-ball honing his jump-shot in a league not nearly as demanding on the body as the NBA.

And in Italy no less. If you had the coin, you would be crazy not to do it.

You have to imagine that sometime into this upcoming season people were going to start speculating about what will happen with Marbury when his contract is up. Is Isiah going to resign him or trade him, will Marbury take the vet minimum or will he look for a pay day? Retirement isn't a crazy option, and neither is answering the speculation now, before it becomes a distraction.

But then, is there anything Stephon Marbury can say that you guys will not call "loco"?

Yeah, I thought so.

i don't think he's nuts at all. the guy is already planning for down the road. besides, he ain't getting no youthier.

Plus he has a COMROD in Italy already with his older cousin having/currently playing over there.

Marbs is getting horrible advice. Instead of trying to show his softer side and his commitment to humanity, his advisors should be instructing him to be quiet and go into the sunset quietly.

I think it's more like Marbury wants to figure out what to do with the rest of his life. Just because he has millions and doesn't have to work doesn't mean he wants to sit around twiddling his thumbs all day. So far it looks like he'll be doing charity, and maybe tv.

So far as the bizarre behavior goes, he may just be trying to hard to show his human side. I get the impression of an introvert who is trying to become a beloved figure. I think he's trying to be more outgoing and more upbeat, possibly with the assistance of Pharmaceuticals.

Right, I agree. I think his advisors are telling him to be someone he is not. He should go to the schools, give away his shoes, do all the little things he does that are great. But leave the speaking and marketing to someone else. I wonder what Malik is doing, maybe he can dress up in a Marbs costume and do all the talking.

Dan Zink wrote a blog saying we should try to resign him.
So, I would like to see the Knicks make a run at re-signing Marbury. Would he command $21mil on the open market? No way. We're talking about $10mil per season max.

$10 million per season might be fair, if Marbury is required to wear a muzzle until his contract is up. Otherwise, no.

That's the figure I know he would accept and one I think will be offered but speaking as a fan this can't under any circumstance be offered to him.

Another contract for 10 mill per? I'd pass very fast

People have been wondering, what will Isiah do when Marb's contract is up? Most wondered if Isiah would have the b*lls to either trade his expiring next year, or just let him walk. I think Marb's comments of having a bad wheel and retiring to Italy can work either one of two ways. On one hand, he let Isiah off the hook. By making those comments, Isiah can say he is respecting his wishes and just let him walk. But on the other hand, these comments and his recent tour and endeavors could turn Marb into a sympathetic athlete in the city, thus making Isiah/Dolan extend a 2-3 year contract to him as a pat on the back.

Hopefully, Isiah realizes that Marb let him off the hook with these comments and should make it a priority to move Marb and his expiring next summer.

Its the Beckham influenece too. Another way Stephon sees himself "CHANGING THE WORLD" bringing himself to the Italian League. But if he isn't going to guard the 3-pt line in the NBA, italy won't want him.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

No matter what he says it's gonna get bashed by people around here, so to me the blog is just more fodder for the many Steph haters out here.

In terms of what he's talking about in the future, why is that so bad? The guy is allowed to talk about whatever the heck he wants to. He like many other aging NBA players is seeing his basketball mortality and he's making the shift from that life to his next. It seems to me that he wants to be a crossover personality. I don't think he's gonna be that successful, perhaps he'll embarrass himself like Bobby Brown and Whitney. It's his life.

As far as the Knicks go, I expect him to play hard and to do what he did for much of the season last year. Be a better team player. If he plays like that from day one I believe we'll have a great year. This is all that matters right now. I'm not even worried about his replacement yet. We'll sort that out in time. Right now I just want to see the team win.

Actually it's the best thing I've heard out of his mouth since he's been here.
