Man, if you're Sac-Town don't you have to think about taking Nate/JJ2 for Artest? Nate is seriously a talent. If you can get him to press on D then he's a huge asset.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Balkman's FT shooting has really improved, and that's new.

nate with 21 and 10. impressive. controlled the game too. that's encouraging. I like Chandler's stroke. It looks like he's got some good fundamentals and great athleticism with good defensive instincts. He could be a real player in 3 years. Nichols shooting 50% from downtown in the summer league so far (7 of 14). He's a nice two way player. No way he sees any daylight this season though - barring injuries.

Nichols can see daylight in scenarios where Craw/Q aren't on. I wouldn't underestimate the value of putting a pure shooter on the floor, especially one that can D up as well.

There is a huge dropoff from out starters to the bench players, and really our starting 5 is probably one of the best in the SL so far, you have 3 6'8 long athletic wing guys in balk, chandler and nichols and they all defend, that causes a lot of problems to mediocre summer league talent..

Nichols length, size, quickness and stroke are too obvious to ignore. He's also got a mature head. It's good that he's a 4 yr player and was a leader on his team. This guy is ready to help and I see no reason why he won't be on the team and see some game action. Even if it's limited, he'd be a welcome addition and he might do like Mardy did and come on strong at the end of the year. I like everthing about him. Kudos to Isiah for yet another EXCELLENT draft. No one makes more out of so many low picks, than Isiah. If Layden was this good, he might still have a job.

Chandler is a baby. He's young and needs time to mature, but you can see the talent just dripping off the guy. He seems to have all the needed skills and physical talents.

Pff...

Back when Ewing played SL didn't even matter...... (or exist?)

I'm hungry for playoff wins.

But I guess I'm a "hater" right?

DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Man Summer League is about the future and ours looks bright right now. We've consistently added good young players. But all some can do is point to their flaws. They claim they want to rebuild, but then they have no patience to allow guys to develop. What they really want is for us to get the top pick and get a can't miss stud. Well there really aren't many can't miss studs and you have to be LUCKY AS HELL to get one. Even if you lose big every year, you're not guaranteed to get one of those guys.

You'll get your playoff wins this year. Just have some faith and stick with this team.

Hey how about Hanners as a coach? I like him. He actually seems like he might have some ability.

NBA.com's Blog Observations

A "Scout's" Take: NBA.com's Michael L. Levine
Jul 12, 2007
Posted by: Maurice Brooks

With Isiah Thomas in the stands signing autographs, the Knicks had their way with the Kings in the first half, racing out to an 18-point halftime lead.

It took less than two minutes for NBA.com's Michael L. Levine to start weighing in to me via instant messenger.

Levine: Break up the Knicks.

Levine: The Knicks are pushing the tempo, getting into the passing lanes, getting out on the break and forcing the issue.

Brooks: Who looks good?

Levine: Nate Robinson is the catalyst. He is playing really well. He has 16 points and seven assists. Also, Renaldo Balkman has two really nice dunks. He's probably the best player on the court. The Kings got off to a terrible, terrible start but then Pooh Jeter came in. He calmed them down a little bit and helped them back into the game.

Levine: Sacramento's Justin Williams is a big, athletic dude who has had an impact inside.

Brooks: I love Balkman's energy.

Levine: Balkman and Robinson are simply too athletic for Sacto. Balkman is a one-man, full-court press and wrecking crew.

Brooks: New York's youngster's look good too. Wilson Chandler is 3-for-4 for eight points and Demetris Nichols has knocked down 3-of-7 for nine.

Brooks: Here we are in the fourth quarter and you know what, Sacramento's Spencer Hawes is good. He has 22 points.

Levine: I'm surprised he has 22. I thought he was kind of slow and weak.

Brooks: I can't believe the Knicks have blown their big lead. It is down to seven. My bad, six.

Levine: I know. This is nuts. Nate is not out there though.

Brooks: Game over, you guys got lucky and hung on to win by 12. All five starters in double digits led by Robinson, who had 21 points and 10 assists. Nichols may stick. He added 17 points. Balkman had 18. Jeter was nice for the Kings. He had 22 points, six boards and five dimes.

Levine: Robinson to the rescue.

I was out chasing women tonight and missed the game but it looks like the team had another good showing. Nichols looks like an elite shooter. We should really try to get him in the lineup at some point this year.

I love the energy and passion that the summer league team has been displaying. It's exciting to watch and fun. It's why guys like me have been asking for players like this since day one instead of wasting resources on the likes of Jalen Rose, Jerome James, Steve Francis, Tim Thomas etc. Begging for players like this is how the whole hater/lover debate started. It's nice to see that on some level we at least understand the importance of it.

The next step is to turn players like this into actual rotation players. To get guys into our top 8 that show passion. This is when we will win. This could be next year if our starting line-up goes against their career trends and hops on the bandwagon set by the summer league team and soon to be set by our bench come the start of the season. I truly think this season is a crossroads. If the starting line-up cannot display this passion and effort it's time to replace them with proven players that play with the passion of the sumnmer league team.
I just hope that people will like me

Imagine how good our situation would be if we had targeted players who play with this passion and energy like this as our main core instead of just role players off the bench.

Yeah, but you can pretty much count on one hand the NBA vets that play like that. Battier, Ben Wallace... (sound of Crickets)...
