Put Jerome James in that game last night and I bet he puts up pretty good numbers.

What would that have meant?

Historically, Portland and the Knicks had a lot in common - up until the early 2000s, they sported the longest consecutive playoff streaks in the NBA before the wheels fell off. The Knicks decided to continue to be aggressive and make trades to keep the ship afloat, whereas in Portland, they've done some excellent drafting (on paper, at draft time anyway), but it hasn't worked out well either.

Portland had a lot of great years with Clyde the Glide and all the teams built around him, but the fact is it's rare when you can find a new superstar to replace the old (the Spurs tanked, and it worked out for them w/ Duncan-- imagine if they had the #2 pick and got Van Horn instead!).

Anyway, Portland FINALLY lucked out w/ the #1 overall pick in a draft w/ two "can't miss" superstars at the top. Super-lucky (or super-tanking) when they had the #4 overall pick last year (which they traded with a bag of peanuts to upgrade to the #2 overall pick!) plus the Rookie of the year.

Optimism around the league for Portland. But I think people would be crying foul about the Randolph/Frye trade if they weren't able to draft Oden (and let's say, had just the #3 overall pick and picked Yi).

Nalod - you recognize the difference between markets. Wheras Portland might have a bit more patience for a rebuild done via the draft, the courtside seats at The Garden go for a grand a pop.

you make an excellent point about the entertainment dollar. In Portland, the Blazers are the only show in town. Hell, they're the only pro show in the state. In New York, you can stroll past MSG and choose from as diverse a palette of culture as there is anywhere on the planet.

Dolan, like all the Knicks ownershhip groups before him, was wary of risking his core/casual audience. Once the NY media turns on you, it ain't pretty.

with that said, our roster is suddenly an curious blend of experience and yoot.

nalod - are you watching at 10PM?

Mista,

I don't get MSG in North Carolina so No summerball for me unless its on NBATV, and then I won't watch unless im just flicking thru. The type of ball they play is not indicative of anything.

I think when your a bottom 5 team you get some dam good picks and sometimes you get lucky with the overall no. 1 pick. Someone has to get the pick, and better POrtland than the whoreish Celtics who tanked. My proof? THey gave their coach a years extension.

Anyway what ever the knicks do to keep them relevant will prevent them from winning a championship.

You need to grow your own superstars. The Spurs got lucky when David Robinson went down and they really sucked that year even though the whore celtics tanked undre Pitino and thought they had him locked up.

But lets Give the Spurs some credit, their franchise player went down and rather than starphuch the season (like we used to do) they let gravity happen and were rewarded.

The Hawks, like the Clippers for many years just plain draft badly. The Clips at least let their mistakes walk, the Hawks are just plain dumb. And Ownership there is a problem. IT happens, some teams just suck.

But with the way we manage its really plausable to say every franchise has a better shot at a tittle than we do.

The Lakers, who have another team IN THEIR BUILDING find ways to stay relevant and win titles.

The NBA has as many perennial doormats as they do winners.

Isiah does not give us an honest product. ITs the Knick way in this era.

NixLover, its good you love the team as you do. Really, the rest of us are bitter men who will hang on. You seem to find a good spin on most things Isiahish and Knicks. Its a load of crap, but one mans crap is another mans treasure.

I will still get an NBA pass, watch most games, and hope to make it to march this year. Usually we done by February.

Nalod - an "honest" product?

Somehow, I'm not so eager to label the Knicks acquisition of more compelling young talent than at any moment in the last decade as DIS-honest

The Knicks are not crap as you describe them
