"Isiah over thinks himself in the draft."

Translation for joeC

"Isiah invests an incredible amount of due diligence in draft prospects and as a result, is not afraid of following his instincts"

So does every other GM in the league when it comes to the draft-but somehow Isiah is viewed as the one that is never wrong? Maybe he just has the gift of clairvoyance the other GM's lack. Isiah's missed before. No just here. No GM is perfect. Ask Atlanta how collecting SF's worked for them because Isiah is doing the same thing at SF and PF just to cover Curry's deficiencies.

c'mon joeC.... Who said anything about a GM being "wrong"?

The operative words are due diligence.

you throw out an arbitrary label that Isiah "overthinks himself" in the draft...

joeC - can you please explain exactly what that means?

joeC - you ever consider the reason Isiah talks so much is because he is asked so many questions?

NYK have the largest contingent of basketball beat writers on the planet

Isiah hasn't attended the "No comment" portion of the media classes that he is making Steph take.

Seriously, like I said before, we all know that Isiah likes to play games. But eventually your reputation catches up with you. If you are constantly playing games everyone knows you are playing games and it loses it's effectiveness.

He's just like the boy who cried wolf.

an alternate take

one of the unique traits of managing a sports franchise in New York is also managing the media. To the extent that Isiah Thomas, Omar Minaya or even Brian Cashman tip their poker hands in player transactions is not a matter of complete honesty and disclosure - it is an art form

but that's just me

Exactly what the term says. Isiah tries to find the diamond in the rough. He tries to find guys he thinks he can develop and that no GM will look at. Sometimes too much thinking is not a good thing. Sometimes face value is good enough.

"Wrong" may not be the right choice of words, but I don't want to argue symantics. Many GM's have missed, whiffed, whatever the phrase you would like to use. Your smart enough to get my point.

face value?

you mean like the face value attached by sports writers?

or of rival general managers?

or of fantasy league geeks?

Earl, I am not arguing symantics with you. Your smart enough to know what I mean. You're getting off point. Your last 4 points are over wording and over easily understandable concepts. If you can't understand it, don't reply to it

joeC - every single GM has a checkered history of draft picks. The point I was making had absoluteley nothing to do with being "right" or "wrong" but rather the investment of due diligence.

constant research

working out players until you (and they) drop

scouring the bushes

judging raw talent

and knowing what the heck you are evaluating

so trying to dupe 29 other GMs and dozens (hundreds?) of beat writers isn't part of the job description?

What hurts Isiah is that he seems to do this type of thing every year. Eventually people are going to see right through this stuff. And you have to figure that the GM's of the other teams are the first to start seeing through it, so by the time the fans start seeing what's going on you can be tthe GM's have probably seen it for a while.

just for kicks and giggles JoeC, jump in The Way Back Machine and set it for 1977.

Follow the Knicks draft picks.

Then get back here in a hurry.
