You posting clips from the mid 90's. WTF? Hip hop aint dead

But you MIGHT be. Damn dude.

If you want to say that that music isnt bad that is playing these days then fine, but dont call it hip hop. And its not just me, everybody who is a true fan of hip hop knows that its garbage now. You got a bunch of middle aged harvard educated executives deciding what gets played on the radio and what we get to listen to. Rap is tailored to suburban white kids who have the purchasing power. Seriously, who listens to these guys from the city? You are from either long island or upstate I assume right?

You wasting your time arguing with this kid. Thats the mentality of the generation today, a big middle finger to anything that came before thier era. They aint trying to hear no logic.

BP...all I'm saying is I had a chance to experience all eras of this hip hop game and i'm telling you, this era of music has taken hip hop back almost 22 years. The music today sounds like the stuff that was comming out back in 84-85 before Rakim came out and took it to another level. MIMS, Jeezy and 99% of the south, lyrically dont sound no better than Jo Ski love, or early Beastie boys stuff. Even most of the southern beats are using them old TR 808's now.

BTW, 99% of the rappers today are fake. None of these rappers are busting thier guns, none of them are or were moving no serious weight out of state.......As a matter of fact, I played ball against Mase and CamRon in highschool. They were basketball players, none of them was moving no serious weight like they claim in thier rymes....

When its all said and done Nas is top five dead or alive. He influenced most of the east coast, lyrically when he dropped Illmatic. Jay Z changed his whole style when Nas dropped. AZ, Raekwon, Fat Joe, Big Pun etc...have ll been heavily influenced by Nas.

As far as Nas experimenting with the Escobar style, I admit is wasn't a great look (although that was his lyrical peak) but everybody was doing it and they were all exaggerating not just Nas. Biggie wasn't moving no serious weight like Frank White. Dr Dre is as fake as they come but he was busting his guns all over the Chronic LP. It was the sign of the times.

Gentlemen, I hear all that you're saying..however, without a doubt the baddest Rap cut in the history of Hip Hop is:

Pete Rock and CL Smooth's "They Reminisce Over You" The absolutely All Time Hip Hop Classic

It's up there but you have to remember you had Public Enemy, Run D-M-C, LL Cool J, Tribe Called Quest, EPMD, etc etc etc that had probably better classics. This song epitomizes Hip-Hop in every since of the word. It's in my Top 5 All-Time songs of Hip-Hop.

Hip Hop cannot die. Its is apart of life. But Hip Hop is sleeping right now like KRS one stated or sick. I like Lil Wayne because of his word play and his metaphors. But he doesn't rhyme about anything relevant.

Hip: to be up to date, relative, intelligent
Hop: a form of movement
Hip Hop: intelligent movement
KRS-1 Hip Hop is an intelligent movement we sell in our music

Hip Hop right now is where it is at today, because the people at the top top don't care about Hip Hop nor is it in there soul. All they care about is money. So they are exploiting hip hop anyway they can in order to make money. Most or should I say basically all the MCs today are letting them exploit them & hip hop and letting them pimp them so that they could make money. Right now all MCs care about is what sells and not trying to form any type of positive intellectual message in there songs to inspire people to want to change for the better or do positive things. All rap today is about what sells, sex, money, drugs, murder, crime, and songs people can dance to in clubs.

There was nothing wrong with gansta rap when it first came out because Easy E, Doctor Dre & NWA were shedding light on a dark area of society. Showing people how they are living and there troubles there life. But when people starting seeing that they could make money on exploiting this lifestyle then people started to glorify the lifestyle.

Hip Hop is being exploited only for money. It should be used to inspire or form positive movements. Make changes in peoples lives for the positive. Kill bad vices spread knowledge of your positive and negative experiences so that others don't make the same mistake or if positive follow your path. You don't get that in hip hop today. Almost everyone rhymes about the same stuff today and none of it is relevant.

Young Jock has a song out right know called the coffe shop basically about drugs. He put little kids on his hook singing the song like its is a children song. And he is rhyming about making drugs and selling drugs. Making orders all that stuff like a coffe shop. Its really sad.

Can I ask a stupid question? Who gives a flying **** if rappers actually sell drugs and shoot guns? Does that make their music any better? Ignoramuses.

How about this? Perhaps we should be HAPPY that they're not doing that anymore.

Verse One:

Some say the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice
I say the darker the flesh then the deeper the roots
I give a holler to my sisters on welfare
Tupac cares, if don't nobody else care
And uhh, I know they like to beat ya down a lot
When you come around the block brothas clown a lot
But please don't cry, dry your eyes, never let up
Forgive but don't forget, girl keep your head up
And when he tells you you ain't nuttin don't believe him
And if he can't learn to love you you should leave him
Cause sista you don't need him
And I ain't tryin to cash up, I just call em how I see em
You know it makes me unhappy (what's that)
When brothas make babies, and leave a young mother to be unhappy
And since we all came from a woman
Got our name from a woman and our game from a woman
I wonder why we take from our women
Why we rape our women, do we hate our women?
I think it's time to kill for our women
Time to heal our women, be real to our women
And if we don't we'll have a race of babies
That will hate the ladies, that make the babies
And since a man can't make one
He has no right to tell a woman when and where to create one
So will the real men get up
I know you're fed up ladies, but keep your head up

Chorus

Eeewww child things are gonna get easier
Eeewww child things are gonna get brighter

Eeewww child things are gonna get easier
Eeewww child things are gonna get brighter

Verse Two:

Aiyyo, I remember Marvin Gaye, used to sing ta me
He had me feelin like black was tha thing to be
And suddenly tha ghetto didn't seem so tough
And though we had it rough, we always had enough
I huffed and puffed about my curfew and broke the rules
Ran with the local crew, and had a smoke or two
And I realize momma really paid the price
She nearly gave her life, to raise me right
And all I had ta give her was my pipe dream
Of how I'd rock the mic, and make it to tha bright screen
I'm tryin to make a dollar out of fifteen cents
It's hard to be legit and still pay tha rent
And in the end it seems I'm headin for tha pen
I try and find my friends, but they're blowin in the wind
Last night my buddy lost his whole family
It's gonna take the man in me to conquer this insanity
It seems tha rain'll never let up
I try to keep my head up, and still keep from gettin wet up
You know it's funny when it rains it pours
They got money for wars, but can't feed the poor
Say there ain't no hope for the youth and the truth is
it ain't no hope for tha future
And then they wonder why we crazy
I blame my mother, for turning my brother into a crack baby
We ain't meant to survive, cause it's a setup
And even though you're fed up
Huh, ya got to keep your head up

Chorus

Verse Three:

And uhh
To all the ladies havin babies on they own
I know it's kinda rough and you're feelin all alone
Daddy's long gone and he left you by ya lonesome
Thank the Lord for my kids, even if nobody else want em
Cause I think we can make it, in fact, I'm sure
And if you fall, stand tall and comeback for more
Cause ain't nuttin worse than when your son
wants to kno why his daddy don't love him no mo'
You can't complain you was dealt this
hell of a hand without a man, feelin helpless
Because there's too many things for you to deal with
Dying inside, but outside you're looking fearless
While tears, is rollin down your cheeks
Ya steady hopin things don't all down this week
Cause if it did, you couldn't take it, and don't blame me
I was given this world I didn't make it
And now my son's getten older and older and cold
From havin the world on his shoulders
While the rich kids is drivin Benz
I'm still tryin to hold on to survivin friends
And it's crazy, it seems it'll never let up, but
please... you got to keep your head up

You are appreciated...

When I was young, me and my mama had beef
17 years old kicked out on tha streets
though back in tha time, I never thought I'd see her face
ain't a woman alive that can take my mommas place
suspended from school, scared ta go home
I was a fool with tha big boys breaking all tha rules
shed tears with my baby sister
over tha years we wuz poorer than tha other little kids
and even though we had different dadies
tha same drama when things went wrong we blamed mama
I reminised on tha stress I caused, it wuz hell
hugg'en on my mama from a jail cell
and who'ed think in elementry, heeeey i'd see tha penatentry
One day
running from tha Police, that's right
Momma catch me--put a whoop'en to my backside
and even as a crack fiend mama,
ya always was a black queen mama
I finally understand for a woman
it ain't easy--trying ta raise a man
ya always wuz commited, a poor single mother on welfare,
tell me how ya did it
there's no way I can pay ya back
but tha plan is ta show ya that I understand.
you are appreciated......

Laaaaady, don't cha know we luv ya
Sweeeet Laaaady, place no one above ya
Sweeeet Laaaady, don't cha know we luv ya

Ain't nobody tell us it wuz fair
no luv for my daddy, cause tha coward wuzn't there
he passed away and I didn't cry
cause my anger, wouldn't let me feel for a stranger
they say i'm wrong and i'm heartless
but all along I wuz looking for a father--he wuz gone
I hung around with tha thug's and even though they sold drugs
they showed a young brother luv
I moved out and started really hang'in
I needed money of my own so I started slang'in
I ain't guilty cause, even though I sell rocks
It feels good, putting money in your mailbox
I love paying rent when tha rents due
I hope ya got tha diamond necklace that I sent to you
cause when I wuz low, you was there for me
ya never left me alone, cause ya cared for me
and I can see ya coming home after work late
ya in tha kitchen trying ta fix us a hot plate
just working with tha scraps you wuz given
and mama made miracles every Thanksgiving
but now tha road got rough, your alone
trying ta raise two bad kids on your own
and there's no way I can pay ya back
but my plan is ta show ya that I understand
you are appreciated.....

Laaaaady, don't cha know we luv ya
Sweeeet Laaaady, place no one above ya
Sweeeet Laaaady, don't cha know we luv ya

pour out some liquor and I remenise
cause through tha drama, I can always depend on my mama
and when it seems that i'm hopeless
you say tha words that can get me back in focus
when I wuz sick as a little kid
ta keep me happy theres no limit to tha things ya did
and all my childhood memories
are full of all tha sweet things ya did for me
and even though I act craaaazy
I got ta thank tha Lord that ya maaaade me
There are no words that can express how I feel
Ya never kept a secret, always stayed real
and I appreciate how ya raised me
and all tha extra love that ya gave me
I wish I could take tha pain away
If you can make it through tha night, there's a brighter day
everything'll be alright if ya hold on
it's a strugle
everyday gotta roll on
and there's no way I can pay ya back
but my plan is ta show ya that I understand
you are appreciated.......

Laaaaady, don't cha know we luv ya
Sweeeet Laaaady, place no one above ya
Sweeeet Laaaady, don't cha know we luv ya, Sweeeet Laaaady

Laaaady...[fades]...Laaaady

Intro
Shit, you motha ****in right.
I'm the bitch that's keepin it live
and keepin it hot
when you punk ass niggas don't
Nigga, west side. What!!
Bring it on.

Song
Look for me. Lost in the world wind 96.
Bonnie and Clyde.
Me and my girlfriend doin' 85 when we ride,
Trapped in this world of sin.
Born as a ghetto child.
Raised in this whirlwind.
Our childhood years recall the tears.
Heart laced with venom.
Smokin Shern, drinkin malt liquor.
Father forgive her.
Me and my girlfriend
must of fell in love with the struggle.
Hands on the steering wheel.
Bust! Watch me bail out and bust em.
Fuck em all. Watch em fall. Screamin.
Automatic gunfire exorcisin all demons.
My posse off on the side.
My complication high,
ready to die
We bail out to take the jail back.
Niggas united.
Our first date.
Can't wait to see you naked.
Touch you in every secret place.
I can hardly wait to bust freely.
Got you red hot.
You so happy to see me.
Made the frontpage, primetime live on TV.
Nigga, my girlfriend
may be .45 but she still live.
One shot makin niggas heart beats stop.

What!!
I'm bustin on you punk ass niggas.
Run, nigga, run. I'm on your ass nigga.
Run, nigga, duck and hide.
I'm bustin on all you bitches.
Run, nigga, yeah.
West side, uh,uh,uh.
Die, nigga, die.

My girlfriend blacker than the darkest night.
When niggas act bitch made,
she got the heart to fight.
Nigga, my girlfriend.
Though we seperated at times,
I know deep inside baby girl'll always be mine.
Picked you up when you was nine.
Started out my life of crime wit you.
Bought you some shells when you turned 22.
It's true.
Nothing compares to the satisfaction
that I feel when we out mashin.
Me and my girlfriend.

(Chorus)
All I need in this life of sin,
Is me and my girlfriend.
Down to ride to the bloody end.
Just me and my girlfriend.

I was too immature to understand your ways.
Inexperienced back in the days.
Caused so many arguments and strays.
Now I realize how to treat cha.
The secret to keep ya.
Bein faitful cuz now cheating's leathal.
We closer than the hands of time.
Deeper than the drive of mankind.I trust you dearly,
I shoot blind.
In time I clock figures.
Droppin niggas as we rise.
We all souljas and God eyes.
Now it's time for war.
Never leave me waitin.
I'm paranoid.
Sleepin with you loaded by my bedside, crazy.
Jealous when you hang wit the fellas.
I wait patiently alone
anticipated for the moment you come home.
I'm watin by the phone.
This is true love, I can feel it.
I've had a lot of women in my bed
But you the realest.
If you need me, call.
I'll be there.
Through it all.
You're the reason I could stand tall.
Me and my girlfriend.

Chorus repeats

I love finger ****in you.
All of a sudden I hearin thunder
when you bust a nut.
Niggas be duckin.
Or takin numbers.
Love to watch you at a block party
beggin for drama.
While unleashin on the old times.
That's on my mama.
I would trade my life for yours.
Behind closed door,
the only girl that I adore.
Everything I'm askin for.
Talkin to me,
beggin me to just take you around.
17, like Brandy, you just wanna be down.
Talkin loud.
When I tell you be quiet, you move a crowd.
Bustin rounds, activatin arye.
That's why I love you.
So no control, down to roll.
Unleash. After I hit, you break apart.
Then back to one piece.
Much love to my one and only girlfriend.
The world is ours.
Just hold me down.
Baby, witness the power.
Never leave a nigga alone.
I love you, black or chrome.
Turn this house into a happy home.
Me and my girlfriend.

Chorus repeats

Lost in the world in 96. Bonnie and Clyde.
Me and my girlfriend doin 85 when we ride,
drive in this world of sin.
Born as a ghetto child.
Raised in this whirlwind.
Look for me.

I had to post one of 2pac negative tracks as well. His girl friend if you didn't notice was his gun. Yes that track had a negative message but look at the creativity of the rhymes talking about his gun as his girlfriend. Its a work of art.

i am bias to the old school so let's see.....

T.R.O.Y. is probably one of the best rap songs ever so that is up there.

"scenerio" remix from the tribe is up there.

" fight the power" from public enemy is a song for a hot angry filled summer.

"juicy" from biggy is what you play in bbq.

those are all i can think of right now. there are others but i can't remember now.

Does this qualify as hip-hop? Probably not. But for cruising with the top down on a summer night down the shore, this is it.

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Does anyone in this forum understand that hip hop is the voice of the streets. It aint dead if the streets are not dead.

Yeah, it was more methodical back in the days -- even then it was called garbage.

there is nothing wrong with liking hip hop from the past. you asked us what is the greatest summer hip hop song. so we assume that it means all time, not just this summer. you are 24 so of course you like the recent stuff that is out. it has always been music for the streets but the game has change since i was REALLY into hip hip ( when source was a "legit" magazine and reliable info of what was going on). you are present and most of us are in the past. we feel that hip hop during our time has meant more for us. i was into nwa, public enemy and tribe called quest. they preached knowledge at a time that was far different from now. it was the start of the crack epidemic in black neighborhoods, city funds were cut, and the rich was getting richer and the poor was getting poorer. not to mention the racial strife of bensonhurst, la riots and rodney king. it was a message from the streets and we listened and adhered to it. so if we are "bunch of cosbies" because we are nostalgic about a time that was dear to us, so be it. but i do not recall cosby embracing ice cube or pe at the time.
