Reading this thread, I'm starting to realize that Marion may be the most underrated player in the league. Some of these trade proposals Phoenix would absolutely laugh at. Shed salary? They still have two first rounders this year and two first rounders next. If they want to get rid of Diaw, they can easily package picks which they probably won't keep and get a salary dump. They don't want to get rid of Marion and there's no reason to. Stop the ridiculous Shawn Marion trade proposals.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Keep thinking that.... stats say otherwise. ?The furthest PHX went the past 3 yrs was when they didn't have Joe, Amare, and Kurt playing in the playoffs. Once again regular season record is very overrated. Cleveland is in the Finals winning only 50gms, Det won the Finals 2004 winning only 54gms, New Jersey got to the Finals in 2003 winning only 49gms. So often times fans over evaluate individual talent vs having enogh of what's needed to get the job done.

Diaw was at best a mediocre bench player for the Suns in the playoffs this year. Replace a mediocre bench player with Joe Johnson and you get better, period.

And I can say they got rid of Joe replaced him with Diaw and went to the WCF. I don't know why you are blocking that out of your memory.

no team is going to trade for marion unless they are 1 or 2 pieces away from competing- or if their GM is isiah.

Marion for Rasheed!

I'm not blocking it out. Diaw had a great season last year. But he sucked this season. With the Suns so close to the Spurs, having a contributor like Johnson instead of a marginal bench player would have been the difference in the series and the championship. Maybe Diaw will bounce back next year, but it doesn't change what happened this year. Diaw trade = lost 2007 championship.

There is a lack of synergy and chemistry with Diaw and Amare. When Diaw went off the previous year--amare was not there and a lot of his damage was on post up moves. he doesnt have that space and has become a role player for that team @ 10mm per. BUT he hs PROVEN what he CAN do + he WAS hurt for major portions last year. you cant give every player a max contract

LOL so when Diaw and Amare were suspended it didn't factor at all but the Joe Johnson trade 2yrs removed did. And if Joe Johnson is such the difference maker how come he couldn't get the Hawks to nab the 8th seed in the horrid East and Atlantic Division? Why did the Hawks have the 3rd worst record in the league and only made a 4gm improvement from his first to second yr on the team?

From the Realgm Boston Celtic Board Poster Celtic Thug

First let me say it was Phoenix who called Boston. Let me also say I don’t like the deal from Boston standpoint. I think the Phoenix makes out in the deal. Now that being said let me begin.

It’s not new news but Shawn Marion is very much on the trading block. Ownership in Phoenix is looking to cut at least 8 million off next year salary cap. Phoenix is looking to move up in the draft. The team with the most interesting piece that will fill the Suns needs is Boston.

Phoenix from what I’ve been told offered Boston: Shawn Marion, #24 and #29 picks in this year draft. In return Phoenix want the #5 pick, Theo Raliff (expiring contract), Ryan Gomes (expiring contract), and Delonte West (expiring contract) .

Phoenix is eyeing former Gators Cory Brewer and Al Horford with the #5 pick. Phoenix feels they have a lot of offensive fire power even without Shawn Marion. The problem is they don’t have a lot of players, that can get play both very good offense and defense. Delonte West would instantly become Steve Nash back up. Steve Kerr from what I hear is a big fan of West. Delonte West would fix perfectly into Phoenix system but more importantly west is a better defensive and offensive player then Marcus Banks.

Phoenix also feels that Cory Brewer is a young version of Shawn Marion. They also feel that Brewer is already a better on the ball defender then Marion. Too many times Marion played matador defensive putting Amare into early foul trouble.

Phoenix new line-up would look like this….

PGs: Nash / West / Banks
SGs: Bell, Barbosa, Eric Piatkowski
SF: Cory Brewer, James Jones,
PF: Diaw, Gomes,
C: Amare, Thomas

A team that can play up-tempo Offense and is a much improve defensive team.

All I have to say Boston's rumored offer isn't too much better than any of the offers I proposed in this thread.

It's all speculation until something happens. Your earlier mention of trading for Deng is probably better than most of these other offers. I just get back to why would the Suns trade Marion when they're within inches of a championship and any Marion trade makes it more difficult.

But I guess we'll see. If trimming payroll is that important, maybe they will. I just find it surprising, since aside from David Stern, I think they win a championship this past season.

Let's also not forget that these guys are novelists at time. Trading Marion makes some interesting stories, even if it doesn't happen, so it's in their best interest to keep the story going as long as possible, regardless of whether it actually holds value or not.

Marion in a salary dump? I just don't understand it the more I think about it.

Aren't the suns in trying to get over the hump? They need a big body and that body should be Jermaine oneal. Sliding diaw to the 4 doesn't beat san Antonio and that's what they are trying do. Payroll should not be a factor for this team right now. Nash has maybe 2 years left at a high level.
