That's a great one Bip. What's the difference between Curry blocking a shot and a UFO? A UFO has been spotted by a couple of people!

Riiiiiiiiiiight

Sincerely, I thought KBY's collage is amusing.

By starting a thread for Curry Jokes I hope to take them out of the context of real basketball discussion and detach them from their subject, fictionalizing them like Polish Jokes. That way fictions that have taken on a truth in peoples minds, like the fiction that Curry doesn't attend to his conditioning, can not replace real facts in a quality discussion.

I would hope, seeing as how you don't think Curry is all that fat and all, that you would appreciate that.

Again Riiiiiiight.

Once again you and I with the round about conversation. Tell me one thing that I've said about Curry that was unfair?

He is the topic of discussion on the board for a reason. He is the centerpiece of the organization right now. When his positives outweigh his negatives you will hear the board focus on those. In the meantime you will hear the board focus on the negatives. That's reality. It's NY. It's why it's so hard to be a franchise player in NY. If the player can't handle it, he shouldn't be here. GM's have to know that only certain players can handle the scrutiny. So far I haven't seen evidence that he can't, but I've seen plenty of evidence that some fans can't.

My opinion on Curry is simple, and again I challenge you to find something that's unfair. And if you disagree with something than point that out and we can discuss it. I feel Curry has the physical tools to be one of the best players in the game today. With some polish he could get his PPG up around 25. With his size and athletic ability he could average 10-12 rebounds per game and at least 1 block(and that's being generous) per game. In my mind he is a tremendous talent that to this day has not shown the mental attitude and work ethic to take advantage of all his skills. Can he one day? Of course. Will he? I have no idea. Like any Knick fan, I know he's here for the long haul and I pray that he figures it out. In the meantime he needs to rebound and play D.

Again, point out something in my post that is unfair. If there is, we can discuss. If not, than what's your complaint? Is it possible that you are taking his criticism far too seriously? The guy has flaws, he is our centerpiece, so fans are going to talk about them. That's life.

Might I make a suggestion, Bip?

Try ending your posts with something like "but I'm pumped that our guys are motivated this year and have something to prove. And with the stability of Isiah's extension, the goodwill generated by Marbury's "charity", and the chemistry that comes only with time, I have no doubt we'll make the playoffs next season. I can't wait to bring the hammer down on all you doubters."

I think you're allowed to say pretty much anything so long as you believe.

I just find it hilarious when people get offended when people makes jokes about players on the Knicks, as if they are their brothers or cousins. I mean, I find it understandable if someone gets mad when someone makes a joke about the president, b/c he really is important, but other than that, please. We should be making jokes about our lives, b/c we need something called HUMOR! Especially since the Knicks suck and it doesn't look so bright with Dolan and Isiah continueing to lead.

You like jokes. Quick, what's the difference between Curry and a tub of lard? The tub of lard will at least rebound.

LOL I called him a Can of Lard about a month ago as in Crisco!

Make all the jokes you like.

My point is this...

In a discussion of Poland's economic condition, no one says "Just look at how many of them it takes to screw in a light bulb."

As in, don't replace serious discussion about Curry and his flaws with irrelevant and now clichéd puns.

If some of you have taken this simple point personally, I could care less, because that was clearly not even remotely its intention.

Incidentally, Blueseats, I would love to see that quote you attributed to Richardson about how hard it is to get Curry into the gym. Especially as it directly contradicts statements he made about Curry’s off-season regimen.

A. I'm on my way out the door.

B. I can't quote it because it was on a TV interview. He said he thinks this year it'll be "easier to get Eddy in the gym than it has been in the past (chuckle)".

C. I'd love to see the comments about the regimen that you refer to.

So in "SERIOUS" discussions about Curry leave the jokes out? Is that what you are saying. Again, I'm confused, who is taking things to "seriously"? Part of the fun of the boards is joking around my friend. That's what we do. I think we can "seriously" discuss Curry and the fate of the Knicks and still throw in a cheeseburger joke without someone taking offense. Well at least those of us that don't take it so "seriously".

Allanfan - the jokes are not the problem.

Then again, if someone labelled you as stupid, inferior or dumb, no matter how you performed, I guess that would be acceptable. Hey, Eddy Curry should just laugh along...

After all, it's only basketball, right?

Dude these are GROWN AZZ MEN who have overcame a lot to get where they are at. If a cheeseburger joke on some random sport website upsets Curry so bad that he can't perform effectively, he should retire, not now but RIGHT NOW! He definitely doesn't need body gaurds policing msg boards trying to defend him. You don't know him, he doesn't know you. Do you tuck yourself in the bed at night feeling proud you defended someone on a msg board who doesn't give a Maggots Azz about you? These CLF's are going way overboard.

Misterearl: I'm with you on the whole stupid or dumb thing(not sure what you mean by inferior). I think it's silly when people do that. He does dumb things with the ball but I have no idea about his IQ level and neither does anyone here. So those are just blatant insults. But when you call the guy overweight. That's like calling me sarcastic. Truth is truth.

The rest are just jokes. I've been around sports all my life and I"m pretty sure that Eddie endures far worse jokes on a variety of different topics from his best friends in the locker room. And I bet he dishes it back jsut as well. I'm pretty sure he can handle himself and doesn't really care if anyone defends him on this board over a harmless cheeseburger joke.

Now the chili dog jokes, those were out of line.

OK, I've figured it out, you guys are being purposefully obtuse to try and frustrate me and run me off the board.

So let me say this plainly...it won't work.

One last time, its not the jokes, its that they are perpetuating a view of Eddy Curry that is inaccurate.

---

Blueseats, unfortunately I hunted through the links that UK point to for pre-season articles that refered to Curry, but the ones I was looking for no longer work.

This is the best I could do...
Curry also admitted to homesickness, and found solace back in the Windy City. He worked out diligently with Michael Jordan's former trainer, Tim Grover. He played daily pickup games with other N.B.A. players. He consulted Juwan Howard for tips on playing in the post. He spent weeks working with the Knicks assistant coach Mark Aguirre, refining his moves.

''This is probably the hardest I've seen him work,'' Quentin Richardson, a teammate and fellow Chicago native, said of Curry, who, he added, he has watched ''every summer since before he got in the league.''

''I think he worked and took it a little more serious this summer,'' Richardson said. ''I'm definitely expecting to see better things from 'E.' ''

I in no means want you to leave. Again, nothing is that serious and you need to stop taking it so seriously. Gee Wiz. But I still think Curry is drastically overweight and his 7 rebounds a game is enough to tell me he doesn't work hard. I don't need quotes and links. I see it on the floor.

Only the people that can't take a joke get run off a board by the way.

Unless of course you were joking, and then all I can say is good one.............

But I still think Curry is drastically overweight

Earlier today from Bippity....
Personally I don't think Curry is all that fat

This is the stuff that makes me wonder if you are trying to frustrate me by creating some kind of Kafkaesque absurdist environment within the board.

And I know you know the difference between being overweight and making no attempt to address that condition. You continue to talk about the jokes themselves (or how I supposedly can't take them) but say nothing about the off-season regimen or the fact that he has a nutritionist (who I imagine keeps him away from the chilli dogs), which contradict the implications of those jokes.

Which goes into this ridiculous notion that I feel I am defending the honor of a player. I take these jokes seriously in the same way I took seriously a post earlier today which claimed that the top 16 shot-blocking teams in the league all made the playoffs. It’s inaccurate and misleading.

So if you want to appear truly like the most knowledgeable fan forum on the web, a claim UK posters frequently make, this is an issue you might want to examine.

most knowledgable fan forum on the web?

HA

most resentful perhaps. TrueBlue sums up the feelings of a lot of folks who view certain athletes as targets of their frustration. Hey, whatever turns you on. Me? I'd rather celebrate the few Knicks bright moments and move on without the eternal kvetching over their apparent and oh so human flaws.

Riddle me this Batman:

Howcum Tony LaRussa can get busted for drunk driving in Spring Training and then loses a player, on HIS watch, one of the "smartest" managers walking the planet, to a fatal auto accident, while driving under the influence?

Please tell me who are the stupid ones here?

Nope. Tony LaRussa gets a free pass.

Eddy Curry is dumb.

c'mon rembee, you and i both know the truth. sheesh, now I'm getting misty. (sniff)

Yes, and Channing Frye lifted a lot of weights during the offseason. That crap means nothing unless you turn it into something on the court. The fact is that neither you nor I have any idea what his offseason regimen is. We can guess based on hearsay and third party quotes. But in the end all we have to go by is the results on teh court. 7 rebounds a game from a 7 foot 300 pounder is all I need to know.

I coach. And every year every player tells me how hard they worked during the summer. Every year I get reports from uncles and cousins and fathers and mothers and trainers and nutritionists. And every year some of the them really do come in shape. And others do not. All I've learned from that is not to listen to what is said but pay attention to what is done. When Eddie is grabbign 10 rebounds a game his work ethic will not be questioned. But 7 rebounds a game cannot be defended.

And I stand by my words. I do not think Eddie is fat. I think he is drastically overweight, tubby and a big tub of goo.

So why come to a message board? take a break and hang out with people that only talk about the great stuff associated with the 33 win team.

On a side note: Why would we be talking about Tony LaRussa on this board? Are you confused as to the purpose?
