^^^ I really didn't understand what this guy did to his team, I'm sorry Blue. I used to see your Marbury threads here and there and thought you were nutts. Maybe it was because I couldn't watch them two season ago because of the Timewaner/Cable Vision fight or I didn't watch them last year because of Brown/Marbury fight. But I have see the light..................... AND IT IS BLUE!!!!!!!!!!

"Better than everyone else, that is. But it all didn't add up to much, did it?"

Damn that quote hits hard.

Blue I think it might be time to pull that thread out again.

strange coincidence.

From Isola today:

They are 8-11 when Stephon Marbury is the leading scorer.

Martin - you know I love you like my cross-eyed nephew Junebug, who likes to eat dirt, on my Uncle Clarence's side of the family but, since when was any highly selective statistical anaylsis from Frankie Isola the measure of ANY players effectiveness?

Please pardon me for straying violently off-topic, but I would submit that any evaluation of The Team Cancer Formerly Known As Stephon Marbury must be undertaken with more scientific data than simply the record when he is the leading scorer.

on the other hand ... if you wanna talk about team assists totals, free throw percentages (next to last in the league last time I checked) or the turnover ratio.... that be another matter entirely.

Hey, how about that Renaldo Balkman?

LOL, you called him "The Team Cancer Formerly Known As Stephon Marbury" which implies he is still a cancer............ we just call him a different name. The Former Team Cancer know as Stephon Marbury, might be what you were looking for............ but the way you said it is true, I call him MuffinHead.

It's not always just about Steph, but you have to have a team that is CAPABLE of finishing what a guard does. The guys you mentioned all have that. Steph doesn't have that and hasn't really had that on a high level since he's been here.

BTW, putting aside teams like the Suns and Spurs... you think teams like NJ, while missing RJ and kristc so long, and NOK, and Toronto, have radically better rosters tan us that elevate their PGs rather than the other way around?

Well if mediocrity like them are so much better than us please tell me why you're so freakin' optimistic all the time?

Anji - nope, I said what I meant.

If I had thought it up "The Team Cancer Formerly Known As Stephon Marbury" a few hours earlier I woulda used the same inspiration to start a much more appropriate homage to Mister First Half Double-Double, Renaldo Balkman.

swap out marbury for andre miller and this team wins more games.

i agree w/this... it's not about the #'s w/Marbury... he's going to put up great stats & put up points... but a PG's job isn't to be the highest scorer on the team during games, his main job is to get his other teammates involved in the game & to direct the offense... it seems to me Marbury is looking to get his points now because he has no faith in the rest of his teammates to make plays (pretty much how he's played his entire career), & that's not conducive to team improvement... he's trying to take the entire load on his shoulders, & we history shows us this is not a path to longterm success... Marbury needs another superstar to play with, otherwise this team is probably better off w/o him in the longrun IMO.

TMS - outstanding set of points

Marbury's "all alone" mentality has proven to be a difficult mantra to negotiate. Even for Isiah Thomas.

The Knicks long term success will ride on the next set of off season decisions, the draft and Summer League free agents, as well as the development and maturity of three important players:

Collins - for his defensive chops and steady hand

Lee - for the rebounding and ball movement

Balkman - for the flying dreads on the way to another loose ball

Isiah needs to chose who he wants to build around, Curry or Marbury... i personally don't ever see them succeeding together.

TMS - agreed. President Thomas has some difficult decisions to make for Coach Thomas to succeed.

Then again, I wish someone would start a "Howcum Dolan Can't Make Billy Donovan An Offer He Can't Refuse So He Can Be Knicks Head Coach in 2008?" Thread

I think they would make a killer combination.

Guys like Isiah, Magic, and Clyde all led their teams in points in championship winning seasons. Oscar and West may have too, or certainly come close. But none of them felt their game suffered by facilitating their teammates, as if that were in conflict with their role or skillset.

Lets face it, Marbury's been a 6'2 shooting guard, with a streaky outside shot, trying to play point his whole career because he likes having the ball in his hands and feeling like a big shot.

If you want him at the point you need a lot of spot up shooters who can stand in place to be in predictable positions, which spreads the floor, draws the bigs from the paint, and keep the lane open for him.

If your team is based on a low post threat put him, as a streaker perimeter threat, at SG. The problem wit this is, in the case of Curry, you'd want them playing the two-man game, but Steph can't throw it into the post and Eddy can't throw it out.

Mark Aguirre isn't sexy enough

Billy Donovan is the hire Isiah needs to make

Imagine the reaction in the media if the Knicks pulled that off.

Donovan would be perfect for Isiah.

Just enough cachet to make a buzz, but not enough of an NBA resume to deflect a bus, should things not work out and he be thrown under one.

I can't tell whats more likely there - a turnover, a shot clock violation or a fight.

First your Aunt Margaret and now your Uncle Clarence. With that kind of family history, I suggest you take plenty of vitamins.

Andre Miller in 2001-2002 lead the NBA in assist with 10.9 and with his 10.9 assist lead his team to a 29-53 record. Andre Miller was traded to the Clippers who didn't reach the playoffs in his tenure. Then traded to Denver who never got out of the first rd.

But yet if we replace him with Marbury on the Knicks with this current team we would win more games? I don't know about that. Andre Miller will never lead a team anywhere either. And Andre Miller will NEVER be able to take over a playoff series though if Marbury was able to make the freaking playoffs he definatly does have that potential. Andre Miller would be great in LA with Kobe though, A player that can fill up the scoring sheet and take over games and series when needed while Miller worrys about getting the rest of the team envoled.

Anyway im glad that we now established that Marbury is the reason that this team has failed this season because of his lack of great point guard skills. So at least now I won't have see 100s of thread on Curry or Frye or Crawford or Isiah Thomas or James Dolan anymore. As Marbury failed them all.
