presike - you ever notive the first people who instantly reject race as having any influence in the perception of athletes, are the same ones who immediately post the most derrogatory remarks?

Forgiveness, as a concept, seems to exist only for a select few athletes who some feel are worthy of such generous treatment.

Marbury is an enigma?

Deep.

Thats a preety far reaching accusation, Earl. You're saying the derogatory remarks are primarily influenced by race?

Code - what I'm suggesting is the conversation about difficult topics (like race) which demand listeing to another point of view... and comprehension beyond juvenile insults... is always quickly dismissed by the same people who post the most number of personal insults.

Is There is a correlation?

You could look it up.

This isn't about Knicks basketball or an rational dialogue. It's a urinating competition to prove "my" intelligence OVER someone elses. Especially those that I happe to disagree with.

It is a perfect demonstration of how wars get started.

It lacks a sense of humor, modest entertainment or educational value.

There are better things to do on a Saturday afternoon than fight.

Your correlation is flawed is what I'm pointing out. The reason that those people are the one's responding first (and sometimes dismissing racial theories) is likely because their comments are the first to be misinterpreted.

In terms of the demographic being either criticized or insulted, its basically the entire team except Lee, Q and Balkman. Note that those players are our primary effort players. Also note that players on other teams that do well, including Dwight Howard and Amare, are largely liked on the board. Simply because most of our Knick players are black and a large number of poster have negative views on the Knicks doesn't allow you to use that coincidence as grounds to imply that they are racists.

Code - first of all, I have NEVER called anyone a racist.

second, it's not about "effort" players. Far from it. It has more to do with the larger issue of how insulting labels are attached to people, and maintained, and nutured for certain players to the point of that player (ie Marbury, Curry... Frye) never being able to transcend that label.

Finally, the amount of personal insults that have been circulated about posters with a different point of view, is interesting to document from the standpoint of the need of small-minded individuals to always be "right".

I thought it was a free space.

I'm tired and need a good deli sandwich with extra ppickles on the side.

You didn't call them racists, you implied it. And the continued labelling of players, in cases where the labels may fit, is an automatic tendency of the fan. Transcending those labels has to do with the player's performance, the expectation of the fan as well as the fan's personal bias. Its undeniable that race is a factor in the perception of athletes but what we're arguing about is its degree of influence. I would argue that player performance and fan expectation is the major cause of the "derogatory remarks."

I think you're being a little oversensitive Earl. Explain the lack of derogatory comments towards Q and Balkman. Why do you need the validation from a negative comment towards Lee? Its almost as if you were projecting an insecurity about yourself.

Why? I believe it's "the need of small-minded individuals to always be "right"".

Anyone can have a bad game, so I fail to see how you're making some kind of point by referencing this game. Honestly your act is tired. To say that he's been horrible down the stretch "again" as if it's some kind of regular thing is way off as well. What are you even talking about?

Instead of trying to make this about Steph it should've been pointed out that he didn't get the help he needed tonight. Why should he have to go for 40 every night?

So Curry provided nothing tonight? Oh and don't mistake this a compliment to Curry!

I guess that sums it up.

Was reading through the NY Times forums just because Andrew told me they were shutting it down and saw the discussion about UK.com and etc. Have to agree with DJ and think his perspective was spot on - we don't accept/reject readership and postership (there's the odd exception) and you do have to swim through some of the threads to get a good discussion and I personally do skip over some posts to get to the good stuff. I think that the NYTimes guys have had it lucky because of type of visitor that visits that newspaper's site: your next place will be neutral and once it hits a threshold of following, your collective posting will be diluted, trust me on that one.

Earl, you sure do march to your own beat and I do remember reading a bunch of your stuff and wondering how it added any value to the discussion. Never saw you post as an example to others and the way to a better debate/discussion but I have seen you bait some easy fish into the gutter with you. Thanks for that. I guess this goes for a few others too.

Why is the Times shutting down its forums? Never participated there myself. (I must not be the type of visitor that visits that newspaper's site. )
