TrueBlue - I challenge you to a duel with pistols at twenty paces.
Oh by the way, my opinion on the salary cap was rendered yesterday. Since you missed it, here is a copy for your reading pleasure:
Bonn1997 - if you look at the history of the Knicks franchise, dating back to the days of Gulf+Western, the objective has NEVER been to manage salaries. The Knicks have been top-bidder for players like Bob McAdoo, Truck Robinson, George McGinnis (to a league penalty), Kiki, Paul Westphal, Spencer Haywood... the list is infinite
The corporate philosophy was always to maximize the advantages of having cash reserves deeper than Lake Tahoe. The resentment for those riches created animosity around the league long before Isiah Thomas.
Gulf+Westerm, Sonny Werblin and Dolan all understood that in order to remain competitive and maintain headlines and attention in competition for the NY entertainment dollar, you gotta make a splash.
They pursued the big names that would look good on Broadway.
Was it the correct philosophy to produce a champion? Obviously not. The bright moments of the Ewing years were tempered with coach and front office turnover... and the reliance on spending cash to fill holes, over having a long range strategy.
Note how quickly, without the continuity of philosophy, the Knicks fell apart when Ewing was shown the door.
All I am suggesting, as my my rembee suggests, is that continuity (with young players like Frye, Crawford, Curry, Collins, Balkman and David Lee) is a good thing. That continuity, starting with young players who have skillz, not the dreck the Knicks have historically drafted...
...is a good thing.
where the franchise goes from here is anyone's guess.
But if one takes the blinders of resentment off and takes a fact-based look at this season's month-to-month trends...
and the noble idea these guys fight back whenever they have been left for dead... like after the Denver fight or after the sad month of November or after the heartbreaking Seattle loss...
...how can one ONLY bitch and moan (on a daily basis) about the salary cap?
For the reading impaired: Read my lips TB, the Knicks never have been, and never will be, under the salary cap
Enjoy The Ride
And the same obvious response that was given yesterday was that your opinion about the salary cap is to bring up players that were acquired prior to the salary cap being in existence. More illogical nonsense from misterearl.
So misterearl, if the Knicks have never been, and never will be, under the salary cap (complete fabrication by the way), then why do you think getting Anderson and Houston off the cap "should help"?
