He should have just gone out and overpaid for Sam Cassell, Eddie Jones, Kenny Thomas, Tony Battie and Cliff Robinson. Those guys would have played hard, played D and finished games everynight. It wouldnt have been exciting but you would have a team that probably wins 42-45 games and makes the postseason. Then you build up the bench and bottom of the roster w/ young guys. We have one lottery pick on our team and thats Frye. The Balkman, Lee, Nates of our roster would still have been available.
the problem is we messed up the timing. The idea is to load up on young talent and have a shot at signing a bigtime FA before their rookie contracts expire. Like Denver did with KMart. Obviously it didnt work out because of his knees, but you see the idea. Look at the Suns. The went for cap space so they could add Nash and QRich before they had to pay Amare and Diaw.

When Franpoop and Marbury comes off the books Lee will be getting $10mm a year, and hopefully Frye also. Isiah had a KILLER opportunity but blew it. Oh well... next.

Oh... great post MR EARL. Jalen Rose is such a winner we are paying $30mm for him NOT to be here. But dont let logic stop you. Carry on

Yea I agree with that. They would have been cheaper, they would have worked harder, they would have probably had more chemistry, and they would have kept us flexible. When we first did the Marbury trade. I allways thought that if Marbury didn't work out that we would allways be able to retrade him. But I was obviously wrong.

Anyway in 2 yrs if we are smart we have Marbury, Francis in walking yrs. Crawford, Q, Jefferies, James with 1-2 yrs left. I'm thinking they could come up with a plan based on all that flexability they will get in 2 yrs. I'm praying we just focus on the draft. If opportunities come to unload some long term contracts even if its for lesser talent we do it. We will also find out how good Curry can be by then. And we will have young players like Frye, Lee, Balkman, Nate and what ever pick we draft this yr. To dangle or build with.

Knicks1248 - what is a consistent coach?

I thought the word explains its self..

BUT ie: JVG= preparation/defense every single game

I dont even want to go through the list. All im saying is he is only doing a better job then larry becuase the team is more interested in playing for him, and have been together for a year.

IT should not get any pats on the back until this team shows signficant progress, they were expected to make the playoffs last year.
And Im not to gun ho over Curry who is the 2nd biggest center in the league and only avg mediocre numbers, and he's been in the nba for minue now.

Don't kid yourself - Van Gundy saw the handwriting as soon as the team didn't respond to his bleatings and decided to grab his coat and "hatted up" himself.

That is NOT consistent in my book.

I don't plan on us having huge money to go and sign a big time free agent. But I am hopeing to have more flexabile contracts with a bunch of young vets in 2 yrs if no more bad trades and mid level signings. In FranBury's walking yr(dropping about 38 and 40+ all together with Rose ending to). Q will have 2yrs left(09-10), Crawford would have 3(09-11), Snacks will have 2(09-10), JJskinny will have 3 like Craw(09-11). M.Rose will be comming off the books. Frye & Lee have TOs that yr. And next yr they have qualifying offers. I would say that Q, Crawford are more tradeable with there shorter contracts unless Q back shuts him down knock on wood. And Crawford falls of badly. I would say a contender that needs a player like Crawford to put them over the top would consider him heavily by this time. Same with Q. And by this time though we will know what Curry is. If he is still an offensive beast who isn't cappable of making us a contender he can be expendable especially since he would have 3yrs left as well. He could possible even be packaged with Jefferies to a team in desperate need of a center.

I just feel we will have a lot of flexibility and options in 2yrs if we don't make any moves adding salary or yrs and just draft.

In some cases you run like hell, especially when the odds are totally stacked against you.

This is Isiah roster, every man on it. You mean to tell me He had no vision, him or his 25 assistants.

You guys kill me with these contracts coming off the books.
Please tell me the last PLAYER on a knick team that played until his contract was up, unless he was getting paid the min.

That doesnt happen much at all in the NBA, you either get traded in the last year or 2, or they buy you out. The most recent...TT, Jalan, mcdyss, jesus.... the list is endlesss

Ask the CBA owners what Isiah did when things got tough from his own doing.

CBA was a bad shape well before Isiah got there...

Right, and that's an excuse for completely killing it and running away before the body was cold.

Me neither.

But I think the CBA was brought up, not because it is relevant today, but to argue by analogy and compare your assessment of Van Gundy to a similar assessment of Isiah.

Great win last night...
