shouldn't this read knicks 22, haters 28?

you hit the nail on the head...in year 1 after larry it's going to come down to the wire...fortunately for isiah, he only needs 15 more wins to get extended.

while the fans here are a bit boisterous (sp?) it appears the fans and national media are beginning to come around.

can dolan be far behind?

i don't think the national media is coming around at all. i've only noticed a few collectively between ESPN, the Post and the Daily News all season. usually the Knicks and IT are still a laughingstock. win a playoff series or give a top team all they can handle in Rd. 1 and then the media will have to think about changing their tune.

i for one don't think this season is about wins. what's the ceiling for wins with this current team (45-50 the goal)? what kind of moves do we need from here to surpass that? another overhaul? a trade for a superstar? or lateral moves with guys like crawford, frye, jeffries, nate, Q etc (all guys i like, for the record)? that's how we have to analyze IT's performance.

if it does come down to record, 37 sounds reasonable, if nothing to throw a parade over but a positive indication finally.

yeah, 37/38 is putrid, but if this were just a standard team and nobody know who the coach was last year and you were told that the newly hired coach took over a 23 win team (that won it's 23rd game on the last game of the season) and won 14/15 additional games in his first year of taking over the same exact players.

You'd have to give that guy an extension.

however, if you were then told that the current coach is the dope that picked up the 23 win players in the first place...well, then you have to wonder what are our options.

it's lose lose for the knicks this year.

I agree..the only way to turn it around in anybody's eyes (with the exception of islesfan who seems hell bent on hating if they won a championship THIS YEAR) would be a first round win (7 game series much tougher than a 5 game upset) or tough first round.

Come to think of it...they have to play 6 games in the post season to make this season a true 'success'.
Let's go Knicks. That's amare

The only way to impress people is results. Win 23 games and the media/fans make fun of you. Win 37 games and they stop making fun of you, but they really don't care. Win 45-50 games and then you start getting credit. This shouldn't be a surprise.

Everything said about the team last year was 100% correct. Everything said at the beginning of this year was 100% fair and correct. Everything said right now is fair and correct. Isiah's treatment has been fair and correct. If Isiah turns this around his treatment will be fair and correct. But until he actually turns the team around he will not receive credit. That's the breaks.

My only question is why do we care about the Name of our GM so much? Why does it matter? Why are people so obsessed with our GM and coach and who they are and proving someoen right? Shouldn't the concern be about the Knicks team turning it around?
I just hope that people will like me

definitely a question of perspective. i like the questions i posed because it takes into consideration that (a) IT brought all these players in and expected results out of other coaches, that (b) this team is not a finished product, player-by-player and as a whole, and that (c) by nature of the business and our goals there will be some roster changes in the future.

i'm not even saying we need to play a good playoff series this year to please me. just that our team will be a punchline for the nat'l media until we do. only matters if that really bothers you.

37/38 wins and he gets extended in my opinion.
as it should! Didnt Layden's last team win 37 games? We should at least reward Isiah for achieving those standards

37 degrees in October [Layden] is much different than 37 degrees in February.

Under Layden 37 was the ceiling and the team was getting older and had zero nba starters.

That team we had... KT, KVH, Ward, Dyess, Shandon.

We got their last gasps of productivity to eek out 30 odd victories.
They haven't been starters in the NBA since leaving the Knicks. Most of them are barely in the league if at all.

To point to those guys as the model team is a joke.

That season was the ceiling for the team layden had 'built'.

Now do you see what garbage had to be swept up? Its amazing that the plan Isiah had would have worked too, the bottom would not have fallen out completely last year, if not for chasing Brown.

Um that wasn't the team that won 37 games. That team also had Sprewell and Houston. Are those two guys not NBA starters? We also had McDyess who was a star at the time, but was injured for the season.
