Dancing Harry!!!!!

Dancing Harry was a staple at Madison Square Garden in the early 1970s at all New York Knicks home games. He would dance on the sidelines during timeouts and give the Whammy to the opposition. Apparently he was a sidekick to Earl Monroe as he was also the mascot for the Baltimore Bullets when Earl played there.

His real name was Edward Cooper, who, as of 2001, was spending his days a skycap at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

1984 Eastern Conference playoffs, second round, Game 6, MSG, Knicks vs. Celtics.

It was a Friday night game, and in all my years of going to Knicks games, I never heard the Garden quite like it was that night. Fans showed up over an hour before game time, and were already chanting "Boston sucks!"

The Knicks won the game to tie the series at 3-3. We got blown out in Game 7 at Boston, and the Celtics went on to win the title.

Man, Hubie Brown got every ounce out of that team, which, of course, beat the Pistons in the first round in perhaps the best five-game series in history. Game 5 was a hot Friday night at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, because the Silverdome was being used for another event. We won in double-OT, and Bernard King had to be helped off the court afterward because he was so exhausted. And Isiah put on a show for the ages in the fourth quarter and OT, hitting 3-pointers from 26 feet out to single-handedly keep the Pistons in the game.

Footnote: I last remember seeing Dancing Harry (the coolest NYC pseudo celebrity ever) at Game 6 of the 1984 playoff game against the Celtics at MSG. (And I have that game on tape to prove it!) Butch Beard, a Knicks TV analyst at the time, points out how you know the game is a real happening because Dancing Harry decided to dust off his cape and make a special appearance.

It's the 1980 NBA Championship game 6..Kareem goes down...20 yr old rookie point guard Magic Johnson starts at center against Philly..42 points, 15 rebs and 7 asst later he wins the NBA finals and Championship MVP...For the next ten years, Magic and Bird would go on to play the best basketball I have ever seen in my life...What a great time for hoops, has to be the golden years..

Yeah, I know what you mean ... Tell me Welcome Back Kotter wasn't the best show ever when you were around 12.

Oh wait...I forgot one: Happy Days (back in around 1975, when it was good).
