Well if you thought the addition of Marbury to that group of about 6 guys no longer in the NBA was going to lead the Knicks back to their winning tradition then you don't know much about basketball...

another misinterpretation of my comment. I said I wanted Marbury to come here & help to change the culture around here & be a main reason for a return to a winning tradition... so far he has not done it, nor has he been the type of team player to help to manifest that outcome... if you can't read the comments the way they're written yourself it's probably best not to comment on other people's knowledge of basketball.

TMS- you said 2.5 yrs of failure to reach expectations.....Curious...what were your expectations of those teams?

well I stand corrected then...I definitely interpreted that as Marbs not playing up to par since being here...Changing the culture is a bit much to ask him to do if you ask me but hey...

Again, it's not those teams I expected things out of necessarily. I realized the roster that the Anti-Christ Layden left us with. This is about my expectations for him. There were trumpets blaring all over the city when he came here, let's be real about it. He himself was bragging about how things were going to be different now that he was coming home to play at the Garden. The dark days of the Layden years were over, or so he wanted everyone to think. I fell for it hook, line & sinker man, I really did. I thought this guy was gonna turn it all around, both for his own image as well as for the image of the franchise. I never thought both those things would get worse.

You wanna know what I expected out of him? I expected Marbury to be the leader this team desperately needed. I expected him to be a franchise calibre player that we were all looking for after Ewing left. I wanted him to shed that bad rep of being a selfish player & put his mind towards growing up & be a positive face for the franchise. I thought all this would happen because this was going to be his last chance to get it right, where he'd failed in these aspects in all the other stops along the way. I still expect all these things out of Marbury, & unless I can definitely say he's accomplished these things over the long haul (NOT just over the span of 2 months) & helped to put this team back on the right track in terms of being a legitimate contender in the Eastern Conference, I'm going to continue to harp on this guy's deficiencies & hold him to a different standard than the rest of these guys. Afterall, he's the highest paid player on this team, he's supposedly the most talented player, & he's got the most to prove. I believe guys like Allan Houston & Patrick Ewing before him were held to a similar standard by most Knick fans, & rightfully so. The difference is those guys were able to lead their teams to relevance in the NBA. Let's see if Marbury can get it right for once this season, because he sure hasn't done a good job of it since he's been here.

& Don't give me this stuff about Marbury not having the right talent around him to succeed either. His attitude has been piss poor ever since Isiah made that KVH trade. His head swelled to momentous proportions & he began to take on that feeling of entitlement again. Then came his infamous proclamation that I don't need to go into any further I'm sure.

So far over the past 2 months, he's been great. Let's see him do what he's doing over the course of an entire season & lead this team deep into the playoffs. IMO, this team has the talent to do it. So do it.

I agree with most of it but definitely not the last part. This team has way too many flaws to go deep in the playoffs even if Marbury does everything you could ever ask of him. If he does everything you could ask him to, the team might make it to the 1st round.

I don't see any reason why this team can't win the mediocre Atlantic division & beat the #5 seed in the 1st round of the playoffs with the talent they have right now.

2nd round isn't deep in the playoffs but anyway, 5th seed will be about a .600 team. (Washington with Gilbert Arenas right now, but it could end up being Detroit as well.) I can't see the Knicks winning that series.

After seeing Marbury's history and career..How you could think his acquisition will "change the culture" and lead us back to our winning ways is beyond me...

please, let's not argue over semantics... deep in the playoffs to me means no 1st round exits... after the second round of the playoffs it's the ECF... if they make it there, i'm ecstatic, but I don't expect this team to get past the elite teams in the East right now like CLE, DET & ORL... it's within reach to beat a team like the Wizards or the Bulls though... Curry would be a beast in the postseason, trust me... all we'd need is for Marbury to keep playing the way he's playing now & getting the rest of his teammates involved while playing good defense... like i said before, let's see him continue this over the course of the entire season & on into the playoffs... then i'll get off his case.
