There have been player after player brought to this roster that have absolutely no logical fit for the team. One year later they are bought out. Call it what you want, you can't excuse it.

fishmike - i NEVER said it was about the money. Ever.

I could care less about what a player takes home to spend in his spare time.

For me, it's about one thing... improving the level of Knicks talent gradually. It was more about having a starting center taller than 6'8 Kurt Thomas.

>>so layden's opportunity to UPGRADE talent from an already winning team was difficult to do.

djsu - no doubt, it would be difficult for ANY GM with the immediate demands of New Yorkers... but c'mon bro, Layden was downright pathetic. When you cannot cite a single tranaction that Scott made in four years, which was an upgrade, that's a problem.

JVG saw where the franchise was headed, and saw the inevitable decline in talent once camby and spree were labeled as problemmatic by Dolan. After the loaded roster Van Gundy inherited from Riley, I don't feel Jeff left the Knicks for any other primary reason.

He did the prudent, self-preservationist thing and promptly....

...jumped ship.

How difficult was it for Isiah to deal and, at the same time, upgrade talent for the likes of Clarence Weatherspoon, Howard Eisley and Shandon Anderson at their crazy salaries?

Is our goal to be "more competitive" or is our goal to win a title? If our goal is to win a title can we afford to buy out every other acquisition we make?

Kurt Thomas was a pretty good player after all wasnt he? As bad as he was he played better than the first 3 guys Isiah tried to replace him with. Any way thats beside the point.

Doesnt matter, but here is where our views differ. I certainly agree that our talent overall is better than the day Isiah took over the roster. But after turning the entire roster over more than once and spending like $500mm on players and coachs over 3 years I would expect more than "gradually" improving.

Also when you give up any chance of drafting franchise talent and any chance of signing franchise talent and your playing below .400 ball for 3 years you better be improving faster than gradually

That is if you ever want to win (I do)

how about Mutumbo? Doleac? Eisley/Houston/KVH/KT/Mutumbo won at a higher winning % than any Isiah team in the last 2 years. Oh wait... I forgot, chemistry takes time.

Maybe if Layden made like 15 trades instead of like 4 he would have had like 2 or 3 that we could all say were so great and merited more patience.

He's making a point. The point is: ISIAH HAS BEEN WORSE. Some posters have yet to get it.

Hey, if you love Isiah so much, maybe you should marry him?
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Islesfan - What moves did you disagree with and why?

A. Actually, I was disapointed to see Keith Van horn go. Here was a player, who had been maligned at several stops, who was finally playing with a smile on his face. The fans in The Garden were finally starting to warm up to him and POW... Tim Thomas shows up. Tim Thomas. Yuck.

Michael Doleac was lookin' kinda cool with the buzz cut, he was picking and rolling and he had a brother at West Point... then again, if I had to choose between Doleac at the four against David Lee... it's no contest. David Lee baby.

I also was starting to dig on Jackie Butler because I love a good comeback story and the Knicks need three centers.

I miss Rick Brunson as well, but my 12 year old daughter has a better shot than he does.

Trevor Ariza, at only 19, was showing brief flashes of a versatile skill set and cats who can fill in three to four spots in the line score (scoring, rebounding, assists, blocks) are difficult to find.

Isles Part 2 - In what ways do you think Isiah is not perfect as the Team President and GM?

A. He kissed Magic. Yuck.

Isiah pisses people off. Hold up. What New Yorker doesn't?

He dissed Larry Bird. Hold up. Larry Bird played for the freakin' Celtics... okay, never mind

The Knicks HAD the perfect fit in Ernie Grunfeld... teammate of Bernard... former Knick and a person I had the pleasure of meeting. Isiah's Piston background bugs me. I'd rather have a dude who has bled orange and blue.

No man is perfect... but if I ruled the world... Bill Bradley would own the Knicks and we'd go from there....

Part 1 - That's it? 3 scrubs and Van Horn are the only moves you dislike?

Part 2 - You didn't answer the question. Isiah had nothing to do with Ernie and kissing Magic is meaningless.

fish.mike - someone once asked Buck O'Neil if he could hit todays' major league pitchers. He replied, "I might struggle a bit because I'm 92 years old"

Dikembe is 78 and the rest of your heralded list is either retired, injured or long forgotten. I don't miss any of them.

Hold up...

I changed my mind.

Isiah Thomas is perfect. No one could have done a better job.

Then again, Cazzie Russell, Louis Orr, Neal Walk, Mark Jackson or Earl Monroe would have been fun to watch as GM.
