I think a lot of the *hate* that Curry gets is valid. He definatly isn't an inforcer, and if he is going to be a true championship winning calibre franchise player. He needs to own the paint. Curry deosn't own the paint. He shares the paint. He is scared to challenge shots. Not because he is out of shape. Not because he is lazy. Not because he is stupid. But because he is scared to get hit with fouls. He deosn't know how to challenge shots without fouling consistantly. Some people believe he is only 23-24 and has a lot of time ahead of him to improve his all around game. Others are way more impatient and believe since Curry doesn't have it yet and has been in the league for 5yrs out of highschool he will never get it. They would rather trade for a center with all the defenisve skills and developing offense than an offensive skilled player with developing defense. The icing on the cake is the trade that Isiah brough him here with. That raises the expectations to the fact that since Isiah trade for Curry like he was a franchise player he has to play like a true franchise player or he sucks.
Curry still has a ton of work to do. His offensive game still has a lot of work. We got to get it to the level of the Chi game. Where they tried to put a protective shield around him which openned to offense for everyone else. And he has to get his defense to the level of challenging every shot his is cappable of challenging without fouling. Hes a work in progress. But he could be worth it. Then again he could be a waste of time.
people are holding Curry to a standard that only a few C's in the NBA have attained... what other C's actually "own the paint" & is an enforcer on both ends of the floor other than Shaq when he's healthy & perhaps 1 or 2 others? Yao owns the paint on offense, but is he the enforcer on the D? he blocks shots, yes, but he's not that guy that you say to yourself, damn, i don't want to drive on that guy... to bash Curry for not being Shaq in his prime is really pointless... there are no other players in the game, & maybe 1 other in the history of basketball, that ever were that physically imposing & dominant on both ends of the floor.
why not just be happy in what we DO have, & that's a very talented young C who's learning how to be an offensive force in the paint & looks to have a bright future on this team for several years to come? is the only acceptable standard for Curry that he has to be as good as Shaq was in his heyday?
