LOL, the post/threads do increase after loses............ I know everybody is beating down Curry from every angle and it's easy to do right now(prediction= next there will a "how dare curry shake Ewings hand" thread), but I believe he will come threw. IT's a 82 game season... time will tell.

But to the point of the thread, when is a player not compared to the greats???? Marbury and Francis could be like Walt and Pearl or Dumars and Isiah, are things Isiah and even Brown said. Balkman reminds Isiah of Rodman and Artest. Pepople do it all the time, Hell there is a thread in here that says does balkman look like Scottie Pippen!!!! Why???? Because Pippen is someone people remember because he is an great. THe thread didn't ask, " Does balkman look like SAR" LOL.

Walt and Francis were great players but they are not on the same level as guys like Willis and Ewing. In the Knicks hierarchy, Willis and Patrick are on the top and both personified the warrior mentality that exists in New York. I also think a big part is everything Ewing brought to this team and he never was able to give us a championship, through no real fault of his own. He was surrounded by what some loosely would consider a championship team for 3 years from 93 to 95. After that, the teams were good but never on championship level. Willis was surrounded by All-Time greats and won 2 championships here (69 and 72, right?).

Also Rodman and Artest will never be considered legends.

Please tell me that you didn't say Walt Frazier was NOT on the same level as Reed and Ewing. Walt belonged on any level as any great player that ever played the game. EVER!!!
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

we have a lot of Isiah fodder to chose from, but please dont mention Ewing and Curry in the same breath, not to Knick fans.

"We have a lot of time," Thomas said after practice in Greenburgh. "We're not asking Eddy to dominate the league at 23 years of age. That's a tall task for anyone. I don't remember too many 23-year-olds coming in and dominating, regardless of how long they've been in the league. Twenty-three is still 23."[/b]

Forget dominating the league... what about showing some hustle ... showing some brains... staying out of foul trouble and averagin 8-10 boards per game.

Joe how old are you? If you are 46yrs and older and saw Walt in his days ,there is NO way you would say or feel that.

Maybe I came across the wrong way. Walt is a great player, but I don't think he or anyone else signified the Knicks spirit like Willis and Patrick. I have never seen Walt play nor have I seen Willis play, but I have always felt there is a certain lore behind Willis and Patrick that guys like Walt, Earl, Bernard just didn't have to me. Patrick and Willis are considered the two greatest Knicks of all time. I have heard that over and over again.

It's like how Jeter is billed as one of the best Yankees of all time, but he isn't the best player in Yankees history. Imagine if the Yanks converted Cano to shortstop and then started billing him as the next Jeter. Or if they traded for a guy like Tejada and touted him as the next Jeter. Tejada is a better example of what I am saying because his motivation has been questioned and he isn't a proven winner anywhere, nor is he a strong personality or leader.

You think it's an insult to Jeter to compare Tejada to him? I do.

Reed gets the lore for game 7 of the first title, limping to the court and hitting his first two shots to energize the crowd and the Knicks. But Walt was the one pouring out 36 points, 19 assists, and 7 rebounds to carry the team through to the end. sheesh. Put that in the legend pipe and smoke it.

I'm not old enough to have seen Walt or Willis but I've definitely heard Walt mentioned in the same breath as Ewing as the greatest Knick of all time.
I just hope that people will like me

I never really have heard that. I Know he was the last great Knicks PG, but I always felt Wilt had that leadership and lore that Frazier never had.

I loved Ewing but he had weakness's. Frazier was an all around great player with no weakness's. He was a complete, complete player. Willis was "the captain" but that doesn't take away Fraziers greatness.

Like I said this is where I draw the Jeter comparison. Jeter isn't the best nor does he have the most talent or potential on the Yankees. He really never did. He is just a winner. He's the captain. There is a certain mystique behind that that does inflate one beyond just great player status. That is how I feel about Ewing and Reed, even though Frazier may have been a better player than both.

Its hard to discuss Frazier with a person that didn't grow up with him or saw him play. Frazier was more of a leader and a winner than Ewing ever was( not taking anything away from Ewing but showing what a player/person Frazier was). Frazier was more of a "jeter type" than a tejada anyday. In a big game Frazier won and backed it with great stats.

I can see your point. The thing I find hard is looking at these numbers tha some guys like Moses, Chamberlin, Frazier, Russell because it was a very different game back then and not to take anything away from any player, but the stats looked alot different than they do today.
