This is what I said all along, but most of you had your head's up Brown's ass so far, and you wanted him to get the money so bad that you justified it using silly arguments about contracts being worthless.

His contract was not simply voided, he breached clauses in them, some of which we all could see very clearly nd blatantly, the same way we could see he tanked the season blatantly. I would have preferred for him to get absolutely nothing. But again, if I were settling this I would have arrived at a number more or less in the middle, because that is how you settle things. You don't settle things fairly by giving one side everything. How some of you didn't and still don't get that is beyond me.

don't you get it yet...nobody will ever agree with you.

you can say december 25th is christmas and everyone will deny it.

it's you killa...it's YOU!!!

The inescapable conclusion is that MSG's lawyers likely had evidence that Larry breached his contract.

then why settle for anything more than $0? It must not have been overwhelming evidence.

For the same reason lawyers settle civil cases: you never know how a jury will view the evidence and the parties. In this case the jury was Stern. You cannot be certain on how he would rule, so if you can get a reasonable deal (which can only be viewed as a win for the Knicks), you take it.

Stern probably said something to LB's lawyers like "I watched the horrid job LB did"...

Great. Larry stole almost $30M. Way to go.

Can we move on now?

Isn't Isiah Thomas breaking the same rules that Brown did by speaking to the press harshly about his players.
If you say so................. conversely Larry Brown was fired for being a big fat meaning as well. *SMH*

Larry Brown got $28.5M for one year and now he doesn't have to be associated with the embarrassment that is the NY Knicks. I'm sure he'd laugh in the face of people who think he got "shown up" here.

But what does that get us Knicks fans who are still stuck with Dolan, Isiah and this collection of players?

The joke is most definitely on us.

You only settle in the middle when both parties are in equipoise. We now know that they weren't.
What would the middle be? half of 53mill? Seems like they settled in the middle right?

from another poster on another board
Cablevision's market cap is $8 billion, and it has an additional $12 billion in debt, for a total value of roughly $20 billion. An extraordinary item such as a payment of $18.5 million to LB would not even qualify as much of a footnote, for reasons of immateriality. Moreover, the contract with LB was already reported previously and accounted for as a liability on CVC's books, so that would make any settlement payments even less material... as these would not constitute an incremental expense.

The point being, under the circumstances (i.e., this being a pimple on a dinasaur's behind) there is no obligation for CVC to report the enitre sum of a multi-period payment, but only that incurred during the period of the report. We thus have every reason to believe that $18.5 million is this year's payment only, which, interestingly enough, is approximately the pro-rated equivalent of the initially sought amount if paid over a 3-year period.

The $10 million he "earned" for coaching during his one season in NY is considered apart from the additional $53 million he sought. The midpoint of that would have been $26.5 million.

Since the case has been closed, now can we cut Jerome, Marbury and Francis?

LB sabotaged the Knicks season when he saw his heart wasn't really into it and players weren't kissing his ass. For that he still gets over $18 million. He should have never taken the job. But of course he is a phony who chases the $$$ like everybody else, but won't admit it.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

I'm wondering whether or not this report was correct. Perhaps the settlement involved an immediate payment and a deferred payment and the SEC document only included the immediate payment.

that's exactly what I thought. You would have to file with the SEC for a material event, but that doesn't necessarily tell you full terms of anything. They may have deffered payments on a large portion of the contract. this wasnt going before a court of law, this was going to David Stern---would he allow such a startling precedent?

I'll say this, If we see Larry coaching within the next 4 years, we'll know why he settled. This may not have anything to do with evidence.

Let me drop my take in on this.

All parties were wrong. LB was wrong for his sabotage and Isiah was wrong for hiring the Old Weasel (the absolute WRONG coach for this squad) in the first place.

And all parties paid for it.

Dolan had to pay the man that tanked close to $30M.
Isiah is now forced to coach this team, which he did not want to do.
LB is out of a job and his rep is more or less shot and he might never return to the NBA again.

I see no winners in this thing. ONLY losers.

And let me tell you guys something, you who lost the worst in this whole thing: WE DID. We had to sit and watch and put up with this bull**** and there wasn't a goddamn thing we could do about it.

What's the future value of $18.5M 4 years from now?

Interesting precedent set. Not sure what to make of it, yet.

That being said, LB made out like a bandit. $28.5 million for one year. Not bad.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Its not hatred, its love. he loves the guy man. These guys are hurt that Larry didn't get all his money. That wanted him to, and made any number of irrational arguments to justify it. They ignored obvious things that even WE as fans knew were true.
