Good pick up...You need a guy like that to bump Curry and Frye in practice...They need to learn to play physical without getting into foul trouble and there is no one to really body them in practice...So it's a serviceable signing...

I agree, it's nothing special, but it's someone that someone like Frye can look up to. I have a feeling Isiah made this move though, b/c he knows just as well as everyone that he needs SOMEONE who can block a couple of shots.

Not a bad move. Cato has a career average of 2.6 blocks/40 min-- not quite as good as our own Jerome James's 3.3blocks/40, but then again he fouls and turns it over significantly less than James as well. Probably about the best we could have done to address the shot blocking issues we have on the cheap.

It just now dawned on me, did Zeke sign Cato because he's been a running mate with Bumchise? They played together in Houston and Orlando. If so and he's bringing in players for Steve does this mean Marbury is being phased out?

Joe somewhat alluded to this already. Sorry I ddin't see your post on this page til now.

Are we picking any broken down and waived player in the league?
Actually IT and Dolan are very charitable people.
Or may be commissioner will give us back 40 mils of LB salary for helping the nice but broken NBA gs

i like Cato... he can actually stay on the court for more than 2 minute long spurts w/o having to take another breather... i'd venture to guess he signed for a HELLUVA lot less than what Fat Turd did... just more proof of what a lousy signing that was.

I agree. Cato is probably a better center than JJ1, especially for what we need the center to do.

funny how they can get a 6-11 backup C w/career averages below 6 & 6 for a veteran's minimum type deal, but they spent 5 years @ $30 mil for a 7-2 backup C w/career averages below 6 & 6 a year ago... i guess those extra 3 inches is worth the extra loot in Isiah's world.

We got a big body to clog the middle when inevitably one of the fattwins goes down. Not a bad signing for our 15th man.

I have no problem with this signing(without knowing the terms of course). He will serve his purpose and hopefully it will either motivate or mark an end to the JJ era.
I just hope that people will like me

It just makes you wonder even more. We could have had Cato and Butler as back-ups and saved bazillions...........But before I critize the JJ signing again I must remember that this is all a part of the Isiah plan. Just have to wait for this plan to start going into effect.

Thing with cato is that he knows why he is still an NBA player. He rebounds and blocks shots. He's a big man. Jerome still thinks he can be Patrick ewing. Jerome at the very least should be elden Campbell but Jerome is just in another world. It is definately looking like a terrible signing. I wanted Jerome James, too. Never thought he would go backwards once he got to new york. Jerome has talent to spare but it just hasn't worked out for him.

To look at it in the right way, cato is needed to do what Jerome hasn't been able to do. I feel confident cato can do what he always could. Knicks are gonna need him since Jared is not healthy enough to stick in the front court.

i'm guessing because Isiah wanted to explore younger options first... maybe he was looking for another Jackie B in the NBDL pool of talent & didn't find any, so he went w/Cato?

I like the signing. Yeah, he's old and a bit gimpy, but he's definitely better than the $30M man, and he brings shotblocking.

Let's see where this goes.

Why didn't we just keep Jackie Butler again? who showed the ability to block shots, rebound and score inside?

because he already used the MLE on Jefferies (or that was his intention)... Butler wanted more than the LLE.

We can not lose anything buy this signing. Cato can play d believe it or not. If not, he will be in the next yellow cab out of town.
