Thank you Killa, let us now look at Crawford's qualifications to be captain:

Is he a nice guy?
Yes.
Has he had some very nice games and made some clutch shots?
Yes, unfortunately, most of those performances occured when the season was long over, and the last clutch shot he made that meant anything was the 3 pointer off the backboard against Houston-->Lenny Wilkens Era.
Has he ever been the best player on any team he has played on?
No.
Has he ever been a consistent performer?
No.
Is he an example of unselfish play?
No.
Is he an example of hard-nosed play?
No.
Is he an example of a defense-first player?
No.
Is he an example of a player who does all the little things sacrificing his numbers for the good of the team?
No.
Has he shown himself to be an emotional leader, a steadying influence in the locker room, any kind of leader at all?
No, Nein, Nyet.

The fact is, this team has no leader. In cases like this, you make the best player your captain and hope for a real captain to emerge. You do not give captain to perhaps your most disappointing player.

Marbury is the captain until a real captain emerges.

did you read the test? or you just bashing marbs?

marbs will atleast be co captain.

most would know this already.

but annointing crawford 2 years early is a interesting reach.

who says new york fans are impatient?

patience.

.arbury gets another year as captain, then we rebound and he's captain again, then in his contract year coCaptain.

he unified the team last year against brown, he'll do it again.

I couldn't have put it better myself. This is why I'm stunned by how much people like Crawford. It seems like all you have to do is be an articulate gentleman and then you can get away with doing whatever you want on the court.

Marbs helped lead the team off a cliff last year. Not only that that, you say Craw is the softest player on the team? Why is that, he didn't bash the coach?

Couldn't be whenever Marbury was afraid to take a last second shot, he looked to Craw could it? Or the fact that when Marbury got injured he sulked constantly? Or Maybe it's that Marbury-the responsible guy that he is-yelled at his bigs because when his man burned him-which happened alot-and the bigs weren't able to rotate to block the shot? Oh, I know, it's because he bought the rookies suits then gave them such a great example to follow, I mean ask Nate, not shooting when the team needs you because you are unhappy is being in total leadership.

Some of you Marbury supporters are great.

Marbury Supporter- "Marbury should be captain."

Basketball Realist- "Marbury doesn't have a great track record leading any team, no he shouldn't."

Marbury Supporter- "HERETIC! BLASPHEMER! Why you guys always have to keep ripping Marbury? He's the best player on the team! It's not his fault the team sucked!

Basketball Realist- "But wasn't he the best player on the team-and the captain by default- last year when we won only 23 games?"

Marbury Supporter- "DISSENTER! NONCONFORMIST! PARTISIAN! It was all Larry Brown's fault! That was last season move on!

Basketball Realist- "Ok, and we would want a leader that is moved on, too, but Steph keeps commenting on LB-he isn't even past it yet-don't we want a captain whose example we want the team to follow-like Jamal?

Marbury Supporter- "AGITATOR! RABBLE-ROUSER! REVISIONIST! Why you have to keep ripping Steph! He sold sneakers for $15! It was all LB's fault last year. Even though Marbury said he tuned Larry out afte a month, he still didn't quit. He was just saying that. I don't believe Marbs would do that!"

Basketball Realist- "But Marbury SAID he did it."

Marbury Supporter- "BUT HE DIDN'T! He's lying for Larry Brown! He's trying to take responsibility, can't you see? WHy you always have to rip Steph?

Marbury is a loser and his latest comments about Francis only compound the fact that he is bringing up the past and has no idea of what unity is, so typical, he is a snake just like the coach.

But I guess the Captain represents what the team is.
Maybe Marbs is the real representation of todays Knicks organization.
Same like Mr Bush represent our todays American society.

Last year Rangers Jarg refused to be named The Captain even after setting the team records in scoring, assists, and points total. He sad I didn't deserve it yet - I should first help to make this team to be recognized as a winner.

If Murbs or any other Knicks players think they should be Captain it just shows that they have no idea what the professional team sport is.


Everytime I watch the Rangers I think of the overpaid selfish teams of the past were similar although not as much a circus as the current Knicks. But they dropped all the selfish me first players and have turned things around trememndously. Its not about skill. Its about teammwork. Putting the team first before your own needs and ego. On paper last season "experts" predicted the rangers would come in dead last in the whole NHL. funny what a little team sacrifice did. What a shock for the "experts"
I LOVED how Curry just exploded in the 4th, speaking as a fan of the Raptors, Curry looked well, scary I think is the word. Or Shaq-like Curry: 19.1ppg-7.3rpg-58%fg

I like crawford as well, but to make him captain is basically to make a statement and for no other reason.

Similar to brown not starting crawford to start the season last year and putting channing in a suit.

You don't make captains to make a point, you appoint captains for a reason.

Marbury was captain last year, you don't strip him of his captainship if the organization from top to bottom blames larry brown for last year.

Whether or not it's fact, it's just the way it is.

Now, in a world where anything can happen and larry brown did a great job last year...

but this is not that world.

Sorry guys...just telling it like it is.

nice thought though and I'd like to see it happen too, but not at the expense of everyone attempting to in one thread say the players are to blame then continue to single out marbury as the sole reason.

I'm taking the company line of my favorite bball team.

it was all larry brown's fault.

He got a little tougher last year but he's still one of the softer players on one of the softer teams in the league. He's a soft defender and he should be getting to the line much more than he does. I wish he would attack the hoop fearlessly like Iverson or even Marbury or Baron. He has the speed and handling to do it.

I believe he was saying that to bash LB.

Everyone knows LB was a point guard...but an ABA outdated style of play PG (pass first)
