Okay fellas, I guess with that payroll and the Yankees getting (virtually) swept out of the playoffs, Cashman should be fired?

What frustrates me is that the Yankees have been an awful playoff team all decade now and they just keep repeating their mistakes.

Huh? He didn't build this team. He only received decision making authority last October. Since then he has tried to undo the terrible decisions made by Connors and Emslie, aka George'e sycophants.

Torre, OTOH, should go.

I'd give him more time, but I also think that 1 year was enough time to improve the starting pitching enough so that game 3 wasn't in the hands of a 43 yr old with a 5+ ERA and the entire season wasn't in the hands of Wright.

I like most of your trade ideas, Fish. I think they're very creative. But I'd be very reluctant to keep Randy and Wright and lose Mussina. I'd keep Moose but with the idea of him being the #3 or 4 starter. I really don't want to see Randy and Wright starting 40% of the games next season (your proposed rotation). I agree with letting Sheff go, and then you've already saved enough money to keep Mussina. Exercise the option on Wright and you save another $3 or 4 mil. Maybe you can save $3 or 4 mil by reaching a buyout agreement with Randy and just let Rasner or Karstens be your #5 starter.

thing for me is simple.. there's a dearth of pitching in MLB. If the Yanks can build around 3 top flight starters they have the right idea. They have one in Wang, no ifs ands or butts, and Hughes is as cant miss and cant miss gets, but he just turned 20 and is still at least a year away. Hitters can be bought, set up guys can be bought. I just want to see this team built on pitching, defense and high IQ players. THATS what won us 4 WS and 6 AL pennants in a 7 year stretch.

I love and want to have Cano be a part of our team for the next dozen years but if I can use him to get a mega stud like Zambrano or even a Kazmir I do it a heartbeat. Melky+Cano+ a choice of non-Hughes prospects for either of those guys.

I'm not the biggest Zito fan but he's pretty damn good, he's the kind of guy who can actually still get better at 28.

If your rotation 2 years from now is
Wang
Zambrano/Kazmir
Zito
Hughes

Your looking pretty good.

Just one plan... Zambrano/Kazmir is probably a pipe dream but as you can see I'm willing to give up 2 proven bigtime young talents to get them

Tampa Bay needs pitching. They are not going to trade the one good pitcher they have for two hitters no matter how good or young they are. The same is true for the Cubs and Zambrano.

I can't take the steroid controversy anymore. I gave up on baseball three years ago and only show up to bash it! I will say though, the Mets look pretty clean and look pretty balanced. It's hard to break old habits.
I'll never trust this' team again.

I think the problem is Torre is not the right temperment for the three honchos known as A-Rod, Giambi and Sheffield. Either the players or the manager has to go in this case and in this case, the players make too much guaranteed money, so the Torre era is over with. The only ones left over from the old champ days is Jeets, Mo, Pasada and Bernie. It was a great run.

Don't you think that because of Torre's track record, they should ouster Sheff, A-Rod, etc. instead?
