"Dolan and GM Scott Layden tried to continue down the same track, but they were derailed by bad decisions and unforeseen developments. Forward Larry Johnson was forced to retire because of injury; Dolan chose to give Allan Houston a maximum-salary contract worth $100.4 million over six years; Layden made an ill-advised trade of Glen Rice for overpriced backups Shandon Anderson and Howard Eisley, and Coach Jeff Van Gundy resigned unexpectedly after 19 games. "
This link says Dolan and Layden were the main guys. Hmmm.

It was defintely Dave C,he said it himself. He was here--the contract was right after we went to the finals and right after layden was hired, but checkettes was still here and he was the main guy. I think it's possible that some reporters blame Layden, but it was DC.
He said it on Mike and the Dog after Houston signed the deal but changed his story after Layden was fired and during Thomas first season. He now puts Houston signing on Dolan. I was never a big Dave Checketts guy. Everyone talks about Isiah protecting his ass, Checketts was the master of it. Ask Pat Riley.
Once again Bip has to enlighten the masses. Because of the atmosphere here in NY all GM's and coach's must protect their assesss. All of them!!! The moment they let their guard down or get too overconfident is the moment they will be fired. We haven't fostered a team atmosphere here since the 90's.
